I don't know the answer to your questions, however to sign a player to a decent contract (for 7 years, for example) I just bounce back and forth between 6 years and 7 years. As you change back and forth you'll notice the amount doesn't stay the same. Keep doing so till you get a low ball amount, and work your way up till he accepts the lowest amount.
