Okay guys. Here's the deal:
I work at the headquarters of a major retailer in the area. I had an development plan meeting with my director a few weeks ago and told them that I would like to transition into a financial analyst role. So now, there's a new position open (Sr. SEC Reporting Analyst) that I was called in by the director to interview for. All of my interviews went great and now the decision lies between me and a financial analyst in another department. We are both due for a promotion. Also note that I am a property accountant and analysts make more.
So their pitch to me was that they wanted me to take the financial analyst's position (which would pay more than I currently make) and have the current analyst take on the new role. So, they called me in this afternoon and asked for my thoughts about everything. I reiterated that I really wanted the new role, so that kind of threw a wrench in they're plans for promoting both of us (If I got the SEC position, then the analyst couldn't get promoted, however, either way it would be a promotion for me).
They were supposed to give me an answer today before I leave the country on vacation. However, due to me saying that I wanted the SEC role, they decided that they would take next week to think about it and have an answer for me when I return next Friday. Should I have just taken the financial analyst role, or did I do the right thing by being honest about what I wanted?
I am a nervous wreck right now because I don't wanna end up screwing myself out of two opportunities. So much for a clear head during my vacation. LOL. I appreciate your feedback fellas. God bless.
