Why can't I run the ball???

    Settings: All American
    Spread Offense
RB Ability 80 Rushing Defense 0
    Run Block 80 Tackling 0
Running Back 96 speed 93 Acceleration 89 Break tackle 89 Carrying

    I still can't run.

My offense is rated at an A, and I just finished playing against a defense with a B rating. Stats: 16 rushes 48 yards, something like a 2.8 average.

Please spare me the "you suck" comments because obviously it's not working for me. Never had a problem in the past.

I'm constantly getting blown up in the back field. Nowhere to go. Even when I'm running at times when I should pass they are in the backfield before I can do anything.

What kind of running plays are you trying?

I find success mostly with dives, pitches to the strong side, and power running plays.

I get blown up a lot on counters, and if I don't do multiples fake snaps first...since the snap will be jumped and I will get pummeled.

I'm pretty sure their is a similar thread about this posted the other day. But the reason you can't run is because of canned animations. This means that once a tackling animation starts, a players tackling ratings go out the window. This is why db's hit like Ray Lewis in this game. The cpu tackles way to good, and often bring down backs with little effort. Backs go down on the first contact 9/10 times, and the cpu has suction tackling, they often zoom to the ball carrier to start an animation. Running is so predictable and non-dynamic, not even close to realistic.
And the offensive line play is to blame too, but I don't have time to go into that monstrosity.

Tweak the CPU sliders one step at a time. Till you feel it is right. Tackling and Run defense.

I'am on Heisman with pretty much default sliders. I just have the CPU at 45 instead of 50. Only tackling I dropped to 20 and pass coverage I left of 50.

I can run the ball under these setting, so Im pretty sure you can on your settings. It works better if you just tweak the cpu sliders over yours. try that out.

I see what you are saying, but I have actually had a lot of fun running the ball. I love seeing a pulling guard get in the hole and blow it wide open. I see many plays where I am dead-to-rights, but then bust out for a 5+ yard gain. The key to running, as it as always been, is patience.

I've always been good at running the ball but even Im struggling to run well this year. There would be times in previous games where I'd come out of the huddle in the I and my opponent would come out in goalline just because I was killing them on the ground. I was still able to get yards too.

For me, it seems like I cant get any holes. Plus it seems like powerbacks are utterly useless in this game

So far I see awful mistakes by lineman and fullbacks running for someone 5 yards out of the way rather than take on the nearest man coming right through the hole.

When you finally do break a tackle, the animation for it is so slow and lumbering the entire defense catches up to you and takes you down in that same spot - so even when you do elude a defender, it's a moot point.

              Yay NCAA.

I pretty much can only run from an I formation. But the big thing for me, for longer runs and sometimes better pass protection is to pinch the O line. I used to put it on agressive before every play unless there was a db/lb sitting outside the de showing blitz. But in 13, I find pinching helps a lot with running. And being patient and seeing the holes and not juking too much because it slows you down and you get stuck behind your linemen.

You hit the nail right on the head. This is EXACTLY what the problem is.

Yes!!! Fullbacks are horribly useless they ignore blitz completely and cannot hold blocks

Re: Why can't I run the ball???

Regarding setting my sliders, I can't do much more with the defensive stats at zero and mine at 80.

I think the animations point is a good one. Breaking tackles by spinning (which never works) and juking (which works less than never) is non-existent. The animation is so slow that it just can't work. I wonder if maybe playing on fast would help (I'm on very slow).

The longest run I've had in about 20 games of playing is about 20 yards. I'm always caught from behind (despite having a very fast RB and playing at a 0 threshold).

Also, running out of I formation is murder on a spread offense. The defense plays the run automatically and if I audible out, they always seem to know whether I'm passing or running the ball and adjust accordingly. I'm playing on AA because Heisman has been known for this in the past, but it seems to be happening on AA as well this year.

Re: Why can't I run the ball???

I'm sorry guys...but Out of the 20+ games I've played, only 2-3 of them I've been held under 150 yards combined rushing. Running the ball is easy, it's a simple as following your blockers into the holes they create and exploiting that weakness.

You can't run into a blitz and gain yards...SHOCK...just like real life.

My starting RB ran for 1750 yards last season.
My backup had 450 yards as well.

This season I've thrown a bit more, but through 10 games I have 165 yards per game.

Also, I use a spread offense. Most of my rushes are zone runs off the guard, the occasional pitch, and in short yardage plays the power I.

One thing to check also is to turn the Auto Sprint function OFF. By default it is set to ON.

Once the sprint button is hit, either manually or automatically, the defenders break their block and head toward the runner.

I first started off with it auto on and was having a hard time running and getting drilled in the backfield. Turned it off and then didn't hit it until I got pas the LoS and I had an easier time of getting yardage.

I don't know if any of you guys have noticed this but if you stay at the line until your center gives out the blocking information (the animation is that he will point at the defenders) and then snap it afterwards that the blocking is a lot better. I used to not be able to run and I had auto-sprint off and I would just get hit behind the line almost every running play. After I waited for the C to do that animation my line blocked A LOT better. Could be placebo but it's working for me.
