Re: Transfer my player from 2k12 to 2k13
I personally am against the idea, in all honesty. I feel like the purpose of MP is to build your player. I like starting out as a 60 OVR and having to work my way up the rotation. I feel like it's too unrealistic to just dominate the games as an 80 OVR, getting 50+ pts. But that's just me.
Maybe if they dropped your player's OVR to like.. a 70 I'd think it'd be oookaaaay, but I feel like if I just wanted to use a 80+ OVR guy from day one, I'd just use a CAP in CAL.NBA - CHICAGO BULLS

Why wouldn't it work? All they would have to do is make the 2k12 save files compatible with 2k13, much like RB2 music files are compatible with RB3.
It doesn't make much sense because the whole point of a new game is to have updated rosters and new options, but I don't see the difficulty in programing something that would generate the rosters from a saved MP game into an updated game, sans any players that leave the NBPA between now and the next game.Comment

Re: Transfer my player from 2k12 to 2k13
Rosters don't matter at all. If you weren't connected to the Internet at the time that you started the my player profile then the rosters weren't updated to begin with. So, it doesn't matter at all what the rosters are, all that matters is that you might really like your last player that you made. I know from experience that itd be awesome to play as the same person that you dominated with last season. Almost to keep his career going. I mean Kobe had played 16 seasons about to start his 17th I'd like to play as on person for more than 2 seasons tops(if you play 82 game seasons at 12 minutes a quarter at least) I don't know maybe I just really get into the my player feature of the game.Comment

As far as working your way up the rotation, that's only realistic when you are in the same position as a proven player. If you go to a team where you fill an important need, what's the point in trying to prove you are better than someone that's only in the starting lineup because he's all they got?
I think realism in MP will continue to be limited until 2K finally creates a college hoops game with a MP mode that fully integrates into the NBA2K MP mode.
In response to the OP, I agree that your MP should be able to transfer to NBA2k13. The idea of "starting over" with each new game might appeal to some, but I don't understand why those of us that would like to carry over our MP don't even have the option of doing so.
As far as rosters, the only adjustments that need to be made are for the team you play on, so that you keep your role/status on that team.Comment

But updated rosters can cause issues too. What if someone was a PG on the Lakers in 2K12 and in 2K13 with updated MP rosters they play in front of Steve Nash? Things like that make it kind of tricky. The only thing I could see making it work is if you just edit rosters beforehand and THEN are allowed to import your old MP. But if you were say a SG on the Nets, or PG on the Lakers it could cause problems.Comment

Good point, but what if someone wants to play with a certain player or rookies but can't because the rosters aren't updated?

Even if you started a new player, and ended up either getting drafted or traded to the Lakers as a PG, wouldn't you eventually be starting over Nash anyway?
If this is something that would bother you, a simple(r) compromise would be to give the user the option to either maintain their MP minutes/status or re-earn minutes/status.Comment

Not sure of the problem here. Nash would still be on the roster, he just wouldn't be starting. Considering his career is in decline, and he should be retiring soon, should he be starting over a younger player with better skills?

But the option to toggle it on or off would be cool. Idk it's just that I don't want to be starting over quality guys like Johnson or Nash. Or even if I had to re-earn minutes. I wouldn't want to do that if I'm a 90 overall and was the star on my team in 2K12. Seems a little unrealistic to me.Comment

You can have updated rosters in the game and not updated rosters in MP.Comment

Maybe at least have the option, I had an idea like this porting over your MP from year to year, importing stats, and if you played the season ahead, you could start over or continue playing out the season with what ever date your at. Maybe for the rosters, there can be a special way to overwrite the rosters, but not the stats and stuff, I personally don't know this, but if it was possible, maybe...Xbox 360 Rosters:

Re: Transfer my player from 2k12 to 2k13
Well I used Nash because he's a quality starter that went to a team that was previously very weak at that position. It would be the same thing with a SG that was on the Nets in 2K12 or a C that was on whatever team Dwight Howard is going to.

I was thinking about this some more last night, and I think the biggest problem will be the achievements and related commentary. Since a lot of the chatter in the booth is about players and teams and what they did last season (with some historical facts here and there), the commentary is going to sound woefully out of place.
For example, if you are playing against the Heat, and it was the team your MP was on that won the championship during the '11-'12 season, it's going to frustrate you for them to continuously talk about how the Heat finally won, LeBron silencing critics, etc., etc. If you won the scoring title in '11-'12, and you're playing the Thunder, the scoring title talk will be about Durant, not you.
But with all that said, I think I could deal with the commentary (since that is what happened in real life), as long as the in-game stats/records accurately show my history of achievement.
As far as I'm concerned, as long as 2K does the proper use-cases for the feature and test it thoroughly, I don't see why importing a 2K12 MP into 2K13 would be a problem, at least from a technical perspective.Comment
