Re: Five Reasons to Hold off on Buying NCAA Football 13

I like 13 and still agree with everything in that article, except the run/pass commit because A) I'm not sure pass commit actually does anything and B) if you guess wrong on run commit you're going to give up a big gain.

Just made the full time switch from NCAA to Madden because of these issues in 12 and this year. The three days of early release were all it took to decide NO.

Now I'm beginning to wonder how Madden, and NHL will turn out. A little worried that when EA is questioned about problems with games their responses lately have been one of two answers.

What problem? We don't see one. Or my favorite EA answer, we are happy with how (fill in a feature) works and will not be changing it.

So it would seem adding gimmicks and new features is way more important than improving presentation and game play at EA, who is so far giving its consumers a gigantic middle finger. Hopefully the rest of the new sports year brings better gaming.

Very interesting! Seeing me and a coworker was just discussing buying this game for fun purposes and not realistic gameplay.

I must be the only one who doesn't have issues with the human option. I play as Army and I run a large amounts of option plays. I've had that weird short arm pitch happen twice to me. Other than that, the option has worked as it should. Sometimes I break off huge gains. Sometimes I barely get back to the line. Sometimes the middle of the field is open for the triple option.

I agree with the line play re: the option, because sometimes it's terrible.

Maybe I just need a larger sample with the plays, but I've been using Army since the game dropped and I haven't experienced most of the issues written here.

and i would trade every version of ncaa this gen for 13. its leaps and bounds better but yes still plagued with issues that will not be removed till a new engine. but that doesnt prevent it from being so much better than the previous ncaa titles and it has much less game killers than years past. same thing last gen and we thought it would be better this gen. it will be the same next gen also.

I'm not seeing the problems in the article. Most of the games I have played against people on this site and Traditionsportsonline and random ranked matches have been very low scoring. I also think total control passing for the most part is very realistic and well done. It allows you to throw passes away from coverage. That is what real QB's do.

I am not trying to get anyone to get the game. I really don't care one way or another but, it seems people are writing things based more on YouTube video's than their own experience.

Great article, glad everyone is fees up with the crap that's been put on the martlet for years. Technogly ad money is in EA hands. No point in this frustration of lack of realism.

I also exclusively play with Army. Are you playing on AA or Heisman, and vs CPU or HU? Also, your telling me you haven't noticed the fact that..

                  1. wingback toss is broken, the playside A back doesn't block correctly
                  2. Midline option are blocked incorrectly
                  3. WB dive is blocked incorrectly (FB shoots outside)
                  4. noone seals on speed sweep
                  5. playside DE is being blocked vs certain fronts on triple option

Not to mention the all around horrid blocking period.

Your probably just 'playing the game', not really caring too much about the nuances of such a complex offense.

With EA Sports games, it comes down to enjoy enough the fact that you can play a game of the sport while beeing able to close your eyes with everything that make you go crazy.

The Five Reasons to Buy it versus The Five Reasons to hold on are a great exemple of this.

Great article. These are the reasons I did not like NCAA 12 and haven't bought NCAA 13. I love that OS can be relied on to give an honest and factual review of the problems in this game.

I think the biggest problem in getting a better sim game from EA is that most of the people that play the game want to air it out and have fun, not slug it out with realistic momentum, physics, and line play. I would love a great sim college football experience, but the majority of the people buying NCAA would probably rather play Heisman mode with the slow down camera feature so EA is going to do what they want, not what we want.

Just trying to be realistic. It's market forces working against us. There's more arcade NCAA football customers than sim customers unfortunately. Same reason the 2k dumbs down baseball contracts instead of using the actual MLB financial system... most people don't care even though it infuriates those of us looking for realism. EA is out to make money, not the best sim sports game possible, and that's their perogative as a company.

The article is dead on and I'm writing this as someone who loved 2012 and now loves 2013. Everything in the article is accurate and I believe EA is honestly trying to improve the game but progress is always slow and the great games generally take years to move forward. NCAA on PS 3 really sucked at first then made the move to better offenses, locomotion improved the play, the progress has been slow. I think what makes it so frustrating is you see some awesome improvements in the game while other areas are sorely lacking that they stand out more. Total Control Passing, awesome, line play, sucks and sticks out more than ever.

Right on. At the end of the year, when the CEO met, I'm pretty sure there's not distinction between people who air it out and have fun and the hardcore gamer that love the game and want a realistic simulation of it.

There's not even a difference between who play the game from day 1 to day 364 because the focal point of the company is who bought the game between day 1 and day 364.

There's no secret that I'm (won't point fingers at anyone) part of the problem because I'm still buying the EA's title even if I'm not happy 2 times out of 3 with the final product.

As for NCAA 13, I'm happy so far. Don't know if it's going to last while playing more and more the game, but so far, it's a fair product.
