    Recruiting Gem Tips

    I have none.

I was hoping you could provide some.

I had heard that gems often had three teams interested in them, especially three star gems. I scouted a bunch of these and none of them were gems.

The stats (40 time, BP and SQ) are absolutely useless. I've yet to scout someone with a 4.24 time that was actually faster than a 90 or so.

Anybody have any clue on how to spot these so called gems...at least have an inkling....before I waste all my precious scout hours?

Usually the ones lower rated in the star category are gems.

Often the easiest/"cheapest" to find are O-lineman bc it takes less time to unlock all of their attributes. In comparison, Athletes would be the most difficult.

You can scout an offensive lineman in one hour, athletes in three.

But I'd rather have some inkling of what their ratings MIGHT be before I waste time to scout them.

It's unfortunate that the ratings are typically so far off.

Very rarely do I see a guy that "looks" good who actually is anywhere close to what his initial ratings are.

I have noticed that highly ranked 4* recruits with one team recruiting them tend to be busts. most of my gems have Benn high 2* or low 3* who happen to also have a powerful team recruiting them. there are exceptions though. really you just have to scout em. scouting multiple guys at positions of need I almost always seem to find gem who exceeds or meets his counterparts overall ranking who is also more interested in my program. I call that winning, duh.

I have a run heavy attack with my offense so I am always looking for lineman.
I always take care of the positions I need first and after a couple of weeks you might have a commit or two by that time. So at that point when looking for gems go to "all prospects" and then I sort them looking for prospects who still have at least 8-10 schools(usually its a wide open race still) scouting/recruiting them and then look at the overall and usually I don't touch anything below a 60 and scout away (never hurts looking for some JUCO gems ether there out there)

I've found most 3* that have their top five already established in week 1 have a good chance of being gems.

Read my post in the 40, BP, SQT thread.

In addition to that, look for 3* or 4* recruits who have 5+ schools on them. The bigger the name of the schools on the guy, usually the better he turns out to be.

For tackles and guards as well as centersbesides schools already on their list, there is a very easy way to determine wether a guy is a bust or not. I don't want to ruin It for anyone, who might like the "surprise factor" of finding a gem. Some on here might already know what I. Am talking about. If you want to know, just PM me. Another user posted a way to find three star recruits and two stars recruits who would come in at mid 70s at least for NCAA 12. Seems to have carried over to NCAA 13.

Why are you afraid of this? This is how is should be? The bigger schools have better scouts.

                          Can you tell us?

That's what this topic is about.

I get that side of it, but sometimes it completely ruins it when in the first week you see a three-star recruit with ALL big schools going after him. Just spoils it, is all. It just seems like the CPU just doesn't miss out on these hidden gems. Takes the "hidden" part out of the equation, IMO.

I hear what you are saying and I agree. It takes the fun out of "finding the gem" because other schools have already found him. The only time you will find a gem before other teams is if you find him in the pre-season scouting. That's why I scout 35 guys in pre-season. At least you get a week's head start.

                              top 15 - 4 minutes
                              bottom 20 - 3 minutes

I don't recruit ath's in the pre-season because they take too many hours to find out what they are good at.
