    Fave NHL Menu Screens

Over the years, NHLs menu screens have changed drastically. More recently, they haven't changed as much as they used to, but just wanted to see peoples opinions on what their fave menu screens were(and bring back memories for looking at screens like these, for hundreds of days over the course of your NHL gaming life lol)

I'm hoping that diff consoles don't have diff menus(or at least they aren't' that different). If so, post pics of the consoles menu(s) I've missed and I'll update the OP pics.

For me, 97,98,99 and 04 are my faves(I never played 97 or 99,but they both look real cool on the pics below). 2000 I also like, but probably cause it was the first NHL game I ever played.

NHL 2003's simplicity to navigate was my favorite. Definitely sufficient detail, and not too hasty to navigate like nhl 12.

lol ya. Sometimes, the simpler, the better.

That screenshot from NHL2003 really looks like a website with all the stats and everything.

The graphics of today are good(like menu wise and stuff), but games from 10-15 years ago, were much simpler to do things.

For me, the very first taste I had of hockey gaming would have been NHL 1995 for PC. From that point on, I remember purchasing each year up until about 2000.

In that time span, my favourite would have to be NHL '97. Not only was the menu simple to navigate, the menu music was fantastic for the time, IMO.

At that point, I took a hiatus from gaming until around the time NHL 06 came out. I had just bought my first PS2, and got NHL 06 for Christmas. I absolutely loved the menu system in that one. From that point on, IMO, the menu systems just continually got crowded, with so many play modes being added, that it all became a blur to me.

Little bit off topic there, but to summarize, NHL '97 = best menu system

NHL 98 because it was my first game on Playstation when I got it for Xmas all the way back in 98. It takes me way back. I can't even tell you how many hours I racked up with that game. More than any other game I've owned in my life. In fact I just popped it in my ps2 (Yes I still have 98, 99, and 2001 all for playstation) a month ago just to see how far video games have come. Oh the days where I couldn't have given a rats behind whether the game was sim or not.

Anyway I'm in agreement with you guys. The simpler the better. I can't stand laggy and busy menus. Plus the menus are not gameplay. Ya they present the game well, but ultimately it's just one of those things that's not a huge deal to me. If any of you own NCAA 13 every game should look at their menus and see what not to do. Those are the absolute most atrocious menus I've ever seen. Way too busy, extremely laggy, and just down right ugly. You literally have to remember how many clicks down all of the options are because you can barely read what your scrolling on.

                    A lot of memories haha.

I think they get better as the years past. The newer games look awesome, and I think if it wasn't for nostalgia I would say the older ones looked bad.

The late 90's were a weird time, weren't they? That NHL '99 menu is hilariously ugly.

I remember being ridiculously excited for NHL '97 because it was the first NHL on the PSX and the first in 3D!!! Whoo, virtual reality!!! Lookit those polygons!!!

Looking back now, NHL '97 is off the charts ugly. Like, hide your kids, hide your wife ugly. Big blocks of color, floating about slowly on a giant patch of gray ice, doing vaguely hockey-like things. That game was streets behind.

^lol, funny you said that when I said how those menus were my faves(and I never played those games lol)

Was watching gm connected video, and looks like their menu will be sorta like NHL04(where you choose your fave team, and the menu adjusts to that)

Hopefully it updates if you trade players. EX-In the pic, Habs have Bourque as one of the players. Lets say Habs traded him for Crosby. Then the menu pic would be updated, and Bourque would be out, and Crosby would be in the menu now, with that Habs logo too.

Looks like they got only headshots(with no jerseys) for player pics, so that'd make something like this better, cause it'd require less player photo updating.
