I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
Either I'm confused or don't understand something... But I was under the impression that overall ratings didn't matter this year as they changed based on what scheme you were running?? If that's the case, why are they releasing the OVERALL ratings on Fridays for the positions that the fans were allowed to vote on? Please help me understand what I'm missing!Tags: None -
They really don't.
Certain positions and scenarios maybe but I play with the Jags we've got a 60ovr WR named Cecil Shorts who I make look like a HOFer.

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
They matter in terms of how the CPU handles their roster. A guy in the past would be a 70 for both you and the CPU and you'd have a tough time trading him for anything but that. This year, that same guy might still be a 70 in your scheme but he may fit a CPU's scheme better and be a 85 in that scheme. In turn, you could trade for another player that is a high overall in your scheme but not in theirs.
Hopefully it makes the moves the CPU makes more dynamic and realistic.Comment

This is done to generate buzz with the casual fans who don't thing about schemes, or DPP or any of that stuff. It's not really for us.Jordan Mychal Lemos

Overall ratings still matter. Teams might calculate them differently but a bad player is still a bad player. The schemes are just to show value for players that fit the mold of that team

I have always had very low WRs have epic years.... Happens every single year.
62ovr? No problem. He will finish with over 1000 yds and at least 7 TDs. Which in turn allows me to trade a 90ovr who barely broke 500 yds and only a few TDs.
Overalls mean squat unless your a QB. but if his power and accuracy ate there overall again means nothing since awareness only effects the CPU.Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
Just got confused there for a min... Because I remember Looman stating that while one player might be a 82 on one team, he maybe be a 75 on another if he didn't fit the scheme that was being ran. However... Here's to hoping that this will succeed in helping the CPU in making the most out of a players true abilities! Thanks for the info guys!Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
Until someone plays the game on a consistant basis we don't know if they matter this year. Last year honestly they really didn't matter much as Kerry Collins on the Colts out perfomed Peyton in Denver in My franchise despite being rated over 20 points higher. The OVR is not being voted on specific ratings are. The scheme don't matter much because only ovr change because of this.Last edited by 1D4ever; 08-02-2012, 09:07 PM.Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
So basically why? If i have a 92 overall player and they have a 72 overall player then I do not want their player doing better than me.Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
In order to get the CPU to properly fill their rosters based on their schemes, the CPU will look at a player differently and calculate their OVR based on different criteria. So for one team, a player may be an 82. For another team, that player will be a 76. This is simply to get the CPU to obtain the right players for their schemes. It allows them to value certain players over others. YOU will not see this take place. You will still see the same OVR you're used to seeing.Just got confused there for a min... In terms of the player, it's still up to us to make these determinations. And of course, on the field the OVR means nothing.Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
Overall rating is just a quick way to determine how good a player is at a given position. It is a composite of their individual attributes/ratings. What it doesn't tell you is how that player will perform on the field, because that is more dependent on individual ratings...Dedicatedleagues.com - THE ULTIMATE SIM COMMUNITY

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
What do you mean I won't see this? So if I end up trading a guy to the CPU who is a 82 on my squad...and he fits the scheme of the CPU team traded to better then mine, he's still going to show as an 82 on the CPU's squad? What abt in regards to trade value/potential? Will I see what his overall would be if trade to that team?In order to get the CPU to properly fill their rosters based on their schemes, the CPU will look at a player differently and calculate their OVR based on different criteria. Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
A "bad player" in the right system can help a team and hopefully, that's what this is trying to capture.
Heck, a good player in the wrong system might look like a bad player and I drop him, only to go to a system that works for him, and he flourishes (and might get overrated, etc).
The potential for dynamic rosters and decision-making both by humans and CPU is there if they capture it."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
Maybe you'll just see 82 because you're looking at the player through YOUR system's eyes. What do you mean I won't see this? Like if I trade you a 65 player in my system, maybe if I look at him on your roster, I still see 65. YOU might see 88 and be rolling on the floor laughing your *** off at getting him from me for a 5th, while I'm thinking "idiot, he gave up a pick for that scrub".
Perhaps that's how it will work."Some people call it butterflies, but to him, it probably feels like pterodactyls in his stomach." --Plesac in MLB18Comment

Re: I thought overall ratings didn't matter??
A player 82 for you could show up as an 85 to another team BUT you wont see through the cpu's "eyes". So even if you looked at that teams roster you will always see what your team values him at and wont see the 85 that team sees him at.What do you mean I won't see this?
