It has not set me back at all. I'm not the guy who edits everyone or plays all the games anyway. I'm a huge superstar mode fan and franchise mode I just coach so I'm stoked!

That was a really good explanation, imo, thanks. So it harkens back to when I think CR was stating that it's the UI that would have taken time to design and implement, not the editing itself. Then that goes into what Bucky60 was saying that it seems like a flawed or inferior design decision to not include the UI into the blueprint for CC.
This conversation is opening old wounds...lol.

It's a good explanation for editing, but I would think there has to be more than UI issues in this case. We can't even use custom roster as a base which should not require any UI changes to be able to use. We are forced to use EA rosters. It just seems as though customization at large is an issue.

Now, there is the realistic possibility that these things are rooted in separate issues, but IMO that would only serve to further highlight the point some of us have made about EA's design.

There just appears to be some significant flaws in their process/decision making as they have to move backwards before progress more than any mainstay developer I can think of. At this point, I don't think the reason matters all that much as no explanation will really be fully satisfactory.

14 will be somewhat telling as there will be no excuses or justifications. I hope it gets worked out because I'd really like to be excited about CCM.

It just seems like it's been an EA thing to limit user customization. I don't know if it's that "we know best" mentality or what. All of the EA Sports games either don't have a lot of customization options or have been slow to add them over the years, when 2K games and MLB The Show have had them since I started playing them.

FIFA's the same way with that play as only one team in a season thing. Live was like that a lot, particularly on the last two generations. I don't get it. These things seem like simple fly ball features that should be in there.
After more than eight years on here, I finally figured out how to edit my time zone!

Next year watch them charge for each roster update, or something ridiculous like different jerseys. EA you are close to losing alot of faithful NFL Madden fans. I get more of a thrill with fantasy football now anyway, so EA hope your listening. I dont like, nor does any of us the barriers being put up in games, forcing us to play with your ratings, 1 team, etc. Im done posting on this bc its just another wall of having less userability imo.

I am taking an open mind in to Madden 13 this season. I am disappointed in the inability to import NCAA rosters nor edit rosters like the majority though I am open to the connected careers mode.

I will take a "wait and see" approach. Saves a lot of angst that is obviously effecting some of our members!

My thoughts exactly and ironically Madden was the only game from EASports that had the customization.

Live, FiFA, NHL were always no buy for me because of this throughout the years.

When Madden first enable 32 team control, man that was the best news I heard about the game way back when. I was excited as hell

Re: Sound Off: Has the 'Closed' Nature of Connected Careers Turned You Away?

I am actually reallly excited about Madden. NCAA has become stagnant. It is the same game every year with only minor changes. That is why this year was the first year since they started releasing it that I did not purchase it. I played it at my brother's house and couldn't stand it. It is the same as it has always been.

Now that NCAA rant brings me to my next point. Every year people clamor for innovation and something new from both Madden and NCAA. Well this year, they are giving us that with both the infinity engine and CC. Madden makes it sound like they are trying to create an experience that will be uniquely different from previous Madden iterations. With that in mind I am counting down the days until the release of Madden. It is time for EA's football games to be shaken up and give a great Franchise mode experience and I think this may be the first step in that direction.

As for not being able to import rosters from NCAA, I quit doing that two years ago when Madden revamped all of their draft classes. Every year when you move the NCAA draft classes to Madden there is always a huge problem. I got tired of dealing with that and decided to break free of that.

It's totally turned me away and I'm not buying because of that. I'm keeping Madden 12 and they should have built on to Franchsr mode instead of scrapping completely.

It's the whole code thing, where apparently its easier to make changes to one combined or something like that.

I completely agree. It can be frustrating. The NHL series doesn't have options for a shorter season, nor did the MVP back in the day. In NCAA 12 I am constantly bombarded with the Season Showdown messages that I care nothing about. Like you said, it comes across as EA saying "Try not to think. Just sit back and play our way. We know what is best for you".

Based on the info I've read on Connected Careers I feel the same way. I understand that people were annoyed with the usually suspect AI in the traditional franchise mode, where cpu controlled teams seemingly made poor and illogical decisions over and over again, requiring you to control all 32 teams if you wanted a reasonably realistic NFL experience. However, at least we had options to improve our franchise experience. Now with the closed nature of Connected Careers we're stuck with whatever the limitations the modes AI has and that sounds like a recipe for epic user frustration and not fun. I think Connected Careers is EA's attempt to improve franchise AI and cpu decision making, but I don't think it will work for the simple fact that the same AI issues that resulted in poor decisions in the past (cpu teams cutting the wrong type of players, poor draft logic, poor free agent logic etc) will likely still exist, meaning now I will be stuck playing a RPG with very limited user control and no ability to customize the game to over come its AI short comings.

I just get so frustrated because we hear this or say this every year...

Madden 10 will be telling. There will be no more excuses.

Madden 11 will be the measuring stick. There really won't be any excuses.

Madden 12 has to be perfect. They've worked on it so much, they have no room for excuses.

I think we tend to give them too much leeway, personally. I don't profess to know the intricacies of designing a video game, but at what point does a consumer just give up?

I quit buying Madden and NCAA on day 1 a long time ago. Now, it's been since Madden 09/NCAA 09 that I even owned a game. I really want to get sucked back in, but I just can't justify blindly spending $40, $50 or $60 on these like I did 10 years ago.

EDIT: I take it back. I owned Madden 09 and NCAA 10, but that's been it.

I know for me if they said "we took away player editing but we made sure every player in the games has the correct equipment and rookies wont have ridiculously unrealistic equipment any more. We took away 32 team control but we vastly improved ai logic so they dont make bone headed unrealistic decisions any more. We took away couch co op bc....well that was a big mistake but it will def be in next year " I cOuld deal with the limitations for the year.

But they just took things out and offered no explanations besides not enough time. I cant help but feel they removed those things simply because the wanted to, it was a design decision and in no way an oversight.

Take away player editing so people are forced to use our roster and purchase the next madden. Take away couch co op so people are forced tO buy multiple games per household if the want to play ccm together.
