Re: The more videos I watch, the less I seem to see the impact of the Infinity engine
My reply is to the previous comments of having someone with football knowledge be there for consulting:
The name of the game is Madden. They used to actually ask Madden what he thought. I contend that those were the years that things kept progressing. I swear, as soon as he was shooed away, you could tell the difference in the kinds of features they would plan on having and thinking they were important. Not to beat the dead, rotting horse, but seriously, do you think Madden would care about twitter implementation or Oline/Dline play instead? With Madden still being consulted, I'm thinking pass trajectories, play action and many kinds of WR catches would have been pointed out to get figured out and in the game a long time ago.
yes he would prolly want ol/dl play fixed first but that doesn't have anything to do with twitter getting in and ol/dl not getting fixed. those are completely different areas of the game and are worked on by different people. the twitter feeds didn't stop any of the features that you or others are complaining about. the writing for the feeds is all done by one guy and it prolly didn't take long to get the code for it working, since its mostly text and graphics placement.
now infinity or ol/dl would be something you could since they are in the same area and will prolly have the same people working on them. but judging by what is going on here madden is using the same model that fifa and NHl have used to get quasi-physics in their games. start with intense contact like tackling and then integrate lesser contact like jostling and blocking and finally add more realistic player movement. i believe that this was the path that both fifa and nhl took to adding their physics engines and from what we have seen and heard from the devs and the GCs that madden is on a similar path.Comment

Re: The more videos I watch, the less I seem to see the impact of the Infinity engine
This brings up an interesting question in my mind. I am aware that they consult John Madden but as I posted in that thread about them going to his "man cave", I don't remember there being a game of Madden playing on any of those multiple tv screens. Part of me hoped that Cam Newton would have won the cover vote because he seems to at least actually play the game, going by his Youtube video. I understand that John Madden likely doesn't play video games but I wonder how much he actually even sees of the finished game.Madden is still consulting on the game. They fly out in to his man cave in early January and discuss what are the trends he is seeing for that year.
A year or two ago, he said bubble screens and Madden needed a game planner. Those things you have seen for the past few years.
He is still consulting and making money on the deal.
There has got to be some grandson, granddaughter, nephew, niece or somebody that plays Madden within that John Madden lineage, that can get at him about what EA/Tiburon has been doing to his beloved sport, lol.Comment

Re: The more videos I watch, the less I seem to see the impact of the Infinity engine
If those players aren't great at programming OL/DL line play I'll expect pretty much the same fatally flawed game, with the addition of some nice new physics in the tackling.
I'll be happy if it's the first good Madden on next gen, that's all I want, a GOOD game, I gave up on great a few years ago.Comment

I was just thinking...if it was Al Davis Football, they'd have been pestered, prodded and cursed out until it was done his way or else. It's funny, but then again, think of how different it may all be.This brings up an interesting question in my mind. Heck no! lol
Not to speak ill of Mr. Davis, rest his soul, but speed is already too dominate a factor in the game, lol.Comment

The thing that is insane is that I'm sure EA has access to NFL films and can see the all-22 film and see all these techniques, schemes etc at will.

Thats what everybody said last-gen....and here we are. EA/Tiburon plays it safe. To them its "Why fix it if it's not broken?". Obviously, they feel nothing is fundamentally wrong with their interpretation of the NFL or Football. Besides, without competition, there's really no reason or motivation for them to take the risk of a complete overhaul. Personally, I don't have my hopes up for Tiburon suddenly "getting it'.Comment

My first trip to Tiburon was right after New Years this year. While down there, we don't only focus on the current game, but we do exactly as you suggest. We come prepared with feedback, recommendations, ideas, top 10 lists, bug reports, etc. We've already been discussing features for NCAA 14 since NCAA 13 launch. As a group, we communicate daily.Shaun;
A question for you.
I think the first time CG's go down to Orlando is in February, correct?
Isn't the game in beta by then and all the ideas the Madden people decided are in the game.
My point is, wouldn't it be advantageous to have GC's put together a recommendation list by the time13 rolls out. I'm sure they are thinking about 14 as I type this. Email and CC all the developers an exhaustive collaborative list of your recommendations from the community
From an outsider looking in, February seems to far in advance to bring you in for the ideas for 14.Comment

I meant what I said about LB, he is more knowledgeable than me. From the board, Senator Palmer is another guy who strikes me as knowing more than me. Don't extend that to think that everyone falls into that group. I have a good football foundation, I just like to be modest.=)I think their are more coaches who could 'talk football' than you think on OS. My question is that even if us coaches dig into the vault and bring you some goodness, how far will it really go?
Now I probably haven't been coaching as long as LBz or some of the other guys (or even a HC, I'm an OC for high school level youth) but I'm sure some us can keep up with him.
If getting technical would make this game better I'm sure more of us coaches would go into detail -- but then again we'd get a 'Sim Community Want The Game Too Complex' type thread.Comment

I would actually love to have this broken down if you would. Put some things to rest for me personally, because I really see eye to eye with his post. Seriously, would appreciate fact answers to that post.Last edited by wheelman990; 08-08-2012, 07:27 PM.Comment

Now I know that you can't talk at all about your discussions on NCAA 14, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that the Infinity engine will be in 14. Bribe, threaten, maim whoever you have to, to make sure that if they do indeed revamp the OL/DL in Madden, NCAA has to have it well.My first trip to Tiburon was right after New Years this year. Do this today: Instead of $%*#!@& on a game you're not going to play or movie you're not going to watch, say something good about a piece of media you're excited about.
Do the same thing tomorrow. And the next. Now do it forever.Comment

This x 1000. I'm sure (read: hope) the decision to put IE in NCAA 14 is early enough that line play can be addressed majorly. Now I know that you can't talk at all about your discussions on NCAA 14, but I'm going to go ahead and assume that the Infinity engine will be in 14. That's the only point I was trying to make a couple pages back. I think some took it as me suggesting that no one can hold their own in a football conversation with LB. That's not what I was attempting to imply -- honestly, I'm not really one who enjoysI meant what I said about LB, he is more knowledgeable than me. , or putting people on any kind of pedestal to begin with.
But there are certainly guys out there who are a little more intricate in their football perspective, and it's clear who those guys are. Doesn't mean their ideas to improve the game are better than anyone else's, but there's something to be said for those types of guys needing to have a hand in the feedback process.Comment

Nahh I knew that's not what you meant. I would have to correct anyone who would say that. Nobody can know everything and there are some guys on here that really know there stuff.
