Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

Played 5 games today and I'm really enjoying it.

    Pluses:

+ I'm loving the Kinect feature. Works much better than I thought i would.
    + Graphics are superb
    + RTP improves the gameplay
+ Crowd sounds are near perfect. New commentators do a good job.

    Needs work:

    - A.I. at times does weird things. Horrible computer play calling.
    - RTP looks and works wonky sometimes, especially after a play is called dead. i.e. guys falling down in weird ways. RBs falling down just from barely running into their own lineman.
    - Lighting is way too dark at least in the Washington game.
    - Tackle sounds are weak and arcadey sounding.
    - More camera angle options, please.
    - Animations overall look unatural, not fluid at all. Maybe next gen?

oh yeah I almost forgot the instant replays are doing some funky stuff too...I threw a TD with RG3..the Replay just showed him walking away after the play was done from different camera angles. I was expecting to see the throw and catch not that lol
Hell, they should just be the first big time sports game to feature in-game meme's. The reply would have been fine with LIKE A BOSS! stamped on the screen.

Is it just me, or is the lighting too bright?

On a punt return with the sun at my back, the lighting made it hard for me to figure out who my teammates were when playing Skins vs. Hawks.

When the sun is in front of you, everything is fine... seems like the sun is at too much of an angle for a 1:00 game to have such a drastic difference when facing towards or away from it?

In general the brightness of the lighting effects for a 1:00 game give it a very washed out appearance IMO.

The motion blur during non-replay cut scenes is also odd, guys are getting up off the ground and moving so fast it's a blur.

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)

Well, if nothing else this demo has convinced me how important an immersive CCM will be to my enjoyment of the game...

          * The graphics are predictably fine, though I always find the blurring effects make me feel like the screen is covered in vaseline rather than conveying a sense of speed.
          * The passing is like night and day really. I've been very average at best with passing these past...5 years? Just because I've been so afraid at the super comp's ability that I'd only attempt screens, crossing patterns in the middle and maybe the odd post route against cover 2. On this one I feel like I can actually attempt to make the throws I can see, even if the leading mechanic feels more like something you would do on the soccer pitch than in american football in its implementation - or maybe that's me actually being able to use my soccer passing mindset in american football for a change.
          * Commentary is solid without being spectacular, good choice of commentators to ground things again too instead of manufactured excitement. I don't see why everyone is saying how awesome the crowd sound is, though I do appreciate them reacting - still seems too muted. I'll try cranking up the telly to see if it's just me being stupid.
          * Goodness, the infinity engine feels average. It feels worse than Fifa's first attempt at RTP a year or so ago, and that created a load of amusing scenarios. It may be because I recognise the husks of all the old tackling animations in the m13 tackles, but it makes it feel like if someone's arm forces someone down it was more down to flailing ragdoll physics getting lucky and less about a player organically going for a grab. It's also jarring to get something that is supposed to replicate how physics work in real life without having the accompanying true momentum, nevermind that height and weight are discounted (I want a 99 strength WR to be strong for his position, NOT all-world strong).

As I said above, if anything the demo has made me put even more trust in CCM. Play now games aren't going to cut it, I'm going to need the ups and downs of seasons to fix that itch. Madden is thankfully now at a standard where if you can wrap it up in an immersive season mode you can play it for years...but it still feels like we're a few years and a few philosophy changes away from greatness.

Madden 12 isn't better than 13 in any way in terms of in-game. 13 is a HUGE jump.

The only thing that took a hit in-game was graphics but it's seemingly due to the default camera.
My post was a typo error, corrected it. I like Madden 13 better.

However, the physics engine is wack during 50% of the tackles. Terrible looking. Not sure, but I think I liked Madden 12's tackling more then this current state of the physics engine. Next year, or maybe some patches could make this game awesome though.

Also, we need a close cam. The physics engine and awesome graphics are killed by a sky cam view IMO. At least pre snap camera's at the very least!

on PS3 if you do a smart route the play art doesn't change. that was confusing me for a bit.

Great game and its getting closer to my expectations of how it should have been from the beginning of this gen. I seen my Wr take the ball away from the defender as they were diving to the ball, passing feels smooth.

Gotta go to work be back later to finish.

I have played almost 10 games today and I will say this...The demo that is on my xbox that is on right now playing on my 60 inch screen is better than any madden I've played in YEARS!!!!

Yeah the tackling looks funny sometimes but I get a laugh out of some of the things that happens after a tackle ...My wife said ''did that man just fall and do a split on the other players face while he was down and his shoe go into his own mouth'' and I just laughed and said yep that's what happens when you crush someone with Willis.

I do believe this has the shot at being the best madden if not ever then a close second side by side to any madden and man IT'S JUST THE DEMO

                        PS3

Overall..I love the demo. You feel the difference between 13 and all other Madden iterations right from the opening kickoff.

                        POSITIVES:
                        • Infinity Engine
                        • Commentary
                        • Graphics

                        Infinity Engine-
The IE is long overdue. The variety of animations because of the IE speaks for itself. I have read countless posters complaining about their Halfback running into an OL and getting bounced off stride. HELLO? That's what moving objects with weight do.

You get to see some sick body turns and bends when players get tackled.

And I for one like the after-the-whistle bouncing around and dummy flop effect of the engine.

                        Commentary-
Phil Simms is a welcome addition. It is really ashame that the commentary will eventually get stale because he sounds great in the booth. Nantz sounds like Nantz..dry and drab.

                        Graphics-
I like the size of the player models and the overall look of the game. Seeing little things like dirt kicking off the ground is nice. Also..I can differentiate between a tall WR and a shorter CB. Barden of the Giants was towering over one of the SF CBs.

                        NEGATIVES:
                        • Presentation
                        • Default sliders (running game)
                        • Quick snaps by CPU
                        • DE pass rush

                        Presentation-
What's up with Halftimes after all of these years? It needs to be addressed ASAP. Not even one individual player stat. Sad.

                        Default sliders-
Although I was playing on Pro..I had 108 yards rushing on 10 carries with Bradshaw. The CPU running game was rather porous as well. Outside running is rather easy.

                        quick snaps by the CPU-
I would like more time to read the offense before they snap the ball. Hopefully this can be included in the first patch.

                        DE pass rush-
I cannot get a good enough pass rush with JPP and Justin Tuck. I don't know what needs to be done. This has been talked about forever.

All in all..I totally enjoy this demo and can't wait for the retail. IE takes Madden to a whole new level. They put their foot in this one.

                        Kudos!

Slow seems to work for me. Better at the holes opening on the lines.

This is one of the most bipolar threads I've read in a while. Sheesh some people saying the game looks amazing and soundly trumps NCAA 13 and madden 12, while others are saying they might not even pick it up. Some people think the infinity engine is terrific while others say it's one of those "yeah, but..." kinda features.some people praising the commentary while others don't seem impressed at all. Ha pretty much impossible to gauge much from this thread alone...guess I'll find out for my self in a few once my download completes.

Has anyone experienced a ton of dropped balls on All-Madden? I'm playing a game now and my receivers have let three wide open passes in a row hit the ground.
