Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I pretty much agree. i was reserved about this whole push for true physics. i would much rather have well done branching, interuptable animations than clunky true physics. i hope NBA2k doesnt screw up pushing this. Over all i give EA props for what they did and the direction they are trying to go, but for me its not quite enough to WOW me. Over all feels less realistic and a bit cartoonish...non the less i think it will be a decent game, as an older gamer my expectations may be too high so i may not cop it -In my opinion, and I consider myself very well groomed in video sports games (been playing almost every single one since the days of 4th & Inches on the Commodore 64 and Intellivision's Football) This game is a MAJOR BUST!.....My prediction is that this game will recieve some of the lowest Madden scores we've seen in quite some time,
And the irony of the whole thing is that the feature many of us begged for the most is what is going to sink this game fast. The Physics Engine is just so unpolished its a distraction when playing the game. I cannot take the game seriously because there simply is no sense of realistic contact between players.
For one, they feel hollow and have no sense of physical bodies colliding.
They momentum is all just completely off at times. Players will be running full speed outside on sweeps and come to a full stop when a defender cuts them off at an agle and then it goes into this mini standstill physics struggle game that just looks completely off.
Players bounce weirdly off each other into different directions at times
I seen a few plays where the RB gets tripped up going over a low tackler but doesnt go down (good ea) but then freezes in that stumble animation and just glides about 3 yards past and over the tackler while in that frozen stumble stance as if he was one of those electric football magnets from back in the day! (bad EA!)
The whole lack of immersion on almost every single contact truley makes this feel like a completely unfinished product that needs several years...YEARS, not weeks of tweaking to address.
There are some tackles that look good but I honestly think the ratio is like 4 bad, weird or just off for every 1 that looks right.
And it doesnt just end there with the contact. RBs juke left and right awkwardly and unrealistically as if they have metal rods underneath them and someone is yanking them left or right during the juke with absolutely no sense of weight shifting or momentum change.
In my opinion, EA really went backwards...REALLY backwards with this years version. It lacks smooth fluid realistic and natural gameplay. I actually forced myself to finish 3 demo games just to convince myself that what I was seeing wasnt a mistake.......I actually rather go back and play Madden 10. Its much more grounded and feels better then this. Actually 09 does!
Its truely disappointing for me because I had such high stock that the new physics engine would shoot some much needed gameplay and dynamics into this game.....It Just doesnt! Its actually a big distraction for me.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
At times I can't get over how dumb the commentary is.
I played a game and went in to score as the time went out, they went on to talk about how the other team had plenty of time to come back, etc.. etc....
It's those simple things that I just don't understand how they make it through into the game.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I'm hate the 3-4 defense it madden. It is a shell of what it should be. Seems way to easy for interior offensive linemen to get to the second level. But hey at least they were able to add a Gatoraid bottle into the hands of the player of the game for the post game interview.
Pros:
+New Passing
+Infinity Physics
+Running is fun this year
+No more Super LBs
+It will be harder for users to use their MLB to knife though the OLine to make plays in the back field as they can now be tripped up going through the hole.
Cons:
-Defense feels the same/stale and boring
-Still feels like Madden 12 in some areas (Defense, kick return, special teams in general.)
-There still needs to be more stat overlays
-Not seeing the "tweaks" to OL/DL play.
-No response when trying to intercept a pass
Bottom line I'm still getting the game but that is because I love my online franchise, but similar to NCAA 13 EA makes playing defense completely and utterly boring. Very few times where as a user you feel like you can impact the game on defense.Moderator

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
2k8 was not that good a game, the 2k worshiping on these forums amazes me.Originally posted by ImaProblemOMG, Madden is a joke! Physics, are we talking bout PHYSICS... This game doesn't feel as good as 2K8. I challenge all of you to look past the graphics and go play 2K8 football. How is it possible that this company was able to have physics in there product in 2007? It's 2012 EA, your FINISHED!
And your impressions really did not tell us anything about Madden other than your user name fitting what you are to the thread.
The game is not perfect but it is the best Madden to date, some can argue otherwise and that is fine but I believe it is the best to date. It is just a video game after all, not real football and it does a great job at entertaining me so I'm good with that.Comment

I like it... Very fun the physic engine was dope for group tackles my only issue was running backs did a weird fall down move I know yall seen this like they were punched in the stomach.
Passing is great its a battle and you've got to be careful throwing a lazy pass. Kirk Cousins actually threw better than RG3 LOL. Don't think you'll dominate with lackluster WRs because I put AJ Jenkins in and he couldn't catch a cold.
Defense I like the way once a play is made you can easily pull off if you're out of position and try to make a play. Had one user pick out of the 30 I tried and of course the cpu picks everything. Gotta get use to the strategy pad that hurt me a lot too.
Computer is still dumb when it comes to keep a lead and/or making a comeback. They threw when I was down in the 4th with under a minute to go. Once I did score and took the lead they wanted to run without using their timeouts letting precious seconds tick away.
All in all it was fun I juked a defender and he slipped allowing me to get a big return. All you guys crying over fantasy draft and not being able to edit will miss out on a pretty good Madden I do believe.
Hopefully it's just a demo and the things I saw won't be in the final build.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I'm semi new to this, but there are a ton of demos for me to choose from as a silver member. Madden doesn't even show up past the home page advertisement for it because I obviously can't download it. Are you saying that all of the demos that ARE available to me were not available to silver members at the same time as gold members originally? And if that's not what you're saying....then how is it not EA?
To clarify, I'm not being a smartass or a jerk, I really don't know.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I don't even notice the physics. The animation system plays out to fast to even see any physics in action regarding tackles. So much for "You have to play it to actually feel it".
I'm tired of hoping and wishing but we won't see any major changes to tackling, blocking, or running animations until PS4/XBOX 720. 7 years in with these consoles and I'm very underwhelmed on the product we have as of today.
Let's hope Cam Webner and the other devs/coders build a solid foundation with PS4/XBOX 720 hardware. This generation started off horrible in terms of engines with David Ortiz at the helms.
Oh well...I can only hope the Next Generation of consoles warrants a better product.I was going to write most my own thoughts down, but these two beat me to it. These two combined sum up exactly how I felt after playing the demo. All of the hype over playing the game to feel it and all of that played out exactly how I thought it would. I actually felt like 12 was a bit smoother. The player movement is worse this year, and is VERY twitchy and fast, even on a slower game speed. The animations transition very poorly and the player interaction is very disjointed and abrasive. The passing is ridiculously easy and overpowered. The line play and zig zag running is exactly the same as in previous years. The atmosphere still felt very dated. Commentary was improved over 12, but is still sub par compared to the other sports games.OVERALL IMPRESSION: INDIFFERENT. It's not bad, not good. It just is. The Infinity Engine doesn't make any real impact in terms of gameplay (unlike the physics in FIFA) and I noticed it most when weird things occurred. For example, Frank Gore sliding around on his back with a Giants defender under him, leading to Gore gaining an extra 5 yards as the two of them slid up the field; no one could touch him down.
I'm actually a little surprised at the hype over the infinity engine. I saw all of the same tackle animations as in previous Maddens. The main difference was after the play was over where I saw players falling over awkwardly. They still move in unison with a very robotic feel. Also - did anyone else feel like the sliding and gliding of the players was far worse than Madden 12? Sliding and gliding was just awful to me, and the graphics seemed less crisp as well. It was very uninspiring. I was expecting much better with the doubled gameplay team and the hype surrounding this game.
There was absolutely nothing about the game that made me want to change my mind and go out and get it. I'll be waiting until the next generation and make an assessment at that time. NFL gaming is still something best left out of my hobby set for now.
EDIT: One other thing that really bothered me was the weightlessness of the players. I was able to use Michael Boley and cover the entire middle of the field. I could blanket wide receivers with him. This is the same old Madden and is exactly what has deterred me from wanting to play it anymore. I can only imagine being in an online league this year and dealing with that same crap again of having safeties and LBs cover the entire field. Oh well...Last edited by GiantBlue76; 08-14-2012, 05:43 PM.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I thought madden 12 was very un dynamic and that is what turned me away from the game. This demo makes me feel like anything can happen in this game. There are things I have never seen that happen on every play. A 4 yard gain just looks and feels great when you cut it up into the hole and get met by a Linebacker, followed by a safety and you get pushed REALISTICALLY in the direction you should be moving. It really is a game changer when you get pumped about a 4 yard run looking and FEELING that sweet.
With that being said I see a few gripes, with a few of them being able to be fixed with sliders.
-alot of the time the running back takes the ball and puts the ball in the wrong arm (running a pitch play to the left and ball is in right arm) It is very small and can be fixed but it is a pain having to hit A/X to switch it to the other side when it should be already.
- Running to the outside is going to be very easy. I can take a handoff that is supposed to be up the middle and just run with it outside for 15 yd gains. This isnt a problem for me as I do not exploit these things, but when I play in my online ccm and my friends do not take this into account they probably will end up winning every game by exploiting this. This is an error that can only be fixed by having proper line play. When the lineman just take a step and stick to eachother (instead of the DE driving the OL to cut off that lane which would instantly fix this problem) the outside is going to be open field ALL DAY which sucks.
-Defenders in zone tend to sit back and not pick up guys in front of them which makes passing kind of easy
This is all I have so far, but I am enjoying this demo a lot so far. People tat say it feels the same have to be biased because it most certainly does not.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Xbox 360-
The physics engine is just not good. It has a moment or two that hints at being good, but the majority of the time it is just painful to look at. EA is going to have to start releasing complete features if they want us to appreciate their work.
The camera is so far away. What is the deal?Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
And on top of that, if you dont user catch, the WR will drop the pass 100% of the time.Played 2 games on All-Pro. I'm an average player but my first game made no sense at all.
I played as the Giants and lost 24-0 to the 49ers.
Alex Smith went 11-13 for 100 yards, 0 td's o int's. Smith also did this: On two plays he drifted about 10 yards back from the line of scrimmage, avoided my rush, threw a floater of a pass of his back foot to no one, and BOTH TIMES a receiver sped back to the ball and made a catch out of nowhere. One time the receiver made a 1 handed-catch with the ball two feet off the ground. Ridiculous.
I could barely do anything with Eli, had a sub-40% completion rate and 2 int's. Bradshaw tore his shoulder on the first play of the game.
Crabtree broke way too many tackles, and it seemed like the Giants were way worse overall than the 49ers. Could barely get pressure with the D-line.
Second game I used the Redskins against the Seahawks. RG3 was tough to figure out how to use, but I did ok and won 17-9 I think. Scored on a 76 yard screen and a fade route from the 10 yard line. Tried the read option with him, it's a little too effective.
OVERALL IMPRESSION: INDIFFERENT.
Also, the "new" passing is just like NCAA. I thought it made a huge difference at first, but came to realize that it literally does nothing. It's just for show.Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
Blocking still needs work, teammates have a difficult time picking which defender to block.
I had just broken a tackle and was almost in the clear, with Bradshaw for some reason Nicks chose to block some 9er behind me(I forgot his name) instead of the safety which was ahead of me.
My second biggest issue is, defenders shred blocks way to fast, or at the same time your back receives the hand off. I can't say it's not realistic but it's way to consistent. While on the opposite end my cpu teammates can't shred one block. Yes sliders can fix some of this, but the blocking ai is still not up to par.
As far as 2k goes, I've learned to stop comparing 2k to madden. It is what it is, sadly. I learned to not play the game with a negative attitude, so I can enjoy the game, if I'm going to go in with my mind made up that "this is garbage and will never be better than 2k", then I'm only hurting myself, because there isn't going to be a 2k game anytime soon.
I just think we should stop asking 2k to make a football game, when they legally can't and try to give EA direct feedback on how to improve the game. If we will only have one football game for the next 10 or 20 years let's try to help EA make the best football game. I just think it's a waste of time, to continue to beg EA when they aren't going to give up the exclusivity, just accept it. I'm a big 2k5 fan, but we just have to face it EA runs this.Last edited by jersez; 08-14-2012, 05:45 PM.ARE YOU LOOKING FOR YOUTUBE CHANNELS DEDICATED TO THE SIM COMMUNITY CLICK THE LINKS BELOW, AND SUBSCRIBE FOR ALL SIM CONTENT.

To the Devs or GameChangers-
Will any of the following be adjusted in the retail version:
- Is there an option for Replay Frequency
- The Seahawks/Redskins game was way too dark. Couldnt differentiate players (PS3)
