Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
I skipped the last two years but I'll be buying this year based off the demo.
I just saw a fantastic looking play using the 49ers against the Giants. Eli tried to throw a pass over the middle to Ahmad Bradshaw and Donte Whitner laid him out just as the ball got to him and it bounced off his hands up into the air and got picked off by me. It was one of the most natural looking plays I've seen in Madden in a long time. I was amazed.
Sure IE has some problems but plays like that really make it easy to overlook the problems.Comment

I agree with you. At least the Infinity engine takes some of the predictability out of how a play is going to end. That's huge for a sports game and I have seen some amazing things in the demo as well.
I think the game feels fresh and has the best looking player models I have ever seen. Can't wait till next Friday so I can start my preseason with the Niners.

Skipped the last two years, so I might not be as jaded as I could be otherwise. That being said, the game is graphically beautiful, especially on replays when you can see the intricacies. Passing game is about how I remember it, which isn't to say it's bad. Same for defense at least IMO.
My main issue is still with the running game. In real life, RB's take little choppy steps while trying to navigate the holes opening (or closing) But Madden, especially for this generation, even after making the speed burst automatic, can't seem to capture this.
It always feels like your coming out of the blocks for a 100 meter dash instead of a measured pace that allows you to flow with the play. Perhaps that could work for some of the lesser backs, as that's a real life criticism that can keep players off the field. But for top tier guys like Arian Foster, Ray Rice, Shady Mccoy etc., patient running is how they operate, and it seems like Madden still isn't giving you that control. In conjunction with the rag doll effects that can hinder you if you bounce off your lineman, the running game still feels as unnatural as it ever.Comment

Final impressions.
Not worth $60. Maybe if the game was $20-30 bucks I would buy it day one. But imo not enough change to warrant a full game purchase.
I love the new CC Mode, spend a good bit of time reading through the manual. But the IE just doesn't change the gameplay on the field, it feels exactly the same as 12 to me just sped up a bit. Outside of that 13 has all the major issues of 12 that I couldn't stand.
Some good presentation (Game looks and sounds really good) additions, but gameplay is still sub par. I think I'll stick with 12 for another year.Comment

I noticed the same thing. Going from A.Smith to Flynn it was a big difference. Of course, it helps when your throwing to Vernon Davis. Playing as the 49ers the 1st 3qt's Eli was eating me up then I unleashed Aldon Smith on the outside and it appeared as Eli started to get happy feet.Last edited by MissionMaximus; 08-19-2012, 08:00 PM.Comment

I don't know you but I don't believe you. If you have really bought this game since 92, you are going to buy it...

Enjoyed the demo, looks and feels closer to the real thing. However I have one frustration I have, and it's with all sports games, is why can't they get the refs to be mechanically correct? How hard is it to research the correct end of play signals and mechanics? Why do they always move like puppets and are constantly out of position? I guess this drives me nuts because I'm a sports official (youth and HS) and it kills the immersion sometimes.Comment

Raised AI rush blocking from 50-100 to see how extreme it'd be.
They ran for 100 yards and the top rusher averaged over 5 YPC.
This makes me happy. I don't want to mess with sliders all the time, but I'm gonna try 75 next and see what I see.
I just want something close to average for the CPU.

Do you think it is an issue with the blocking or with the RB's decision making (in which case you could toy with the BT instead)?Comment

Re: Madden NFL 13 Demo Available Now, Post Your Impressions Here (360, PS3)
All in all, I am enjoying the demo and think that there have been great improvements over last year. However, there are a few things I dislike about what I have seen.
1 (this is the big one) - The new replay system
Whoever came up with this idea doesn't deserve to be making a sports game. EA go on and on about how they are trying to make the presentation more like what we see on television. Guess what? You had the replays close enough to correct all along. Now we see three different angles of the quarterback handing off the ball, and when it actually shows a tackle, it cuts out before we get a chance to see the entire tackle. It's nice to have good presentation before and after games, but presentation during the game should be the top priority.
2 - The play speeds
In previous versions of Madden, the slow speed has been almost perfect for me. I feel as if it was a speed very similar to the real NFL. This year however, it seems that slow has become quite a bit faster. Now it is much too fast, and very slow is too slow. They should have a slider which allows us to change speed more precisely.
3 - The physics engine
I love the new physics engine, and in the demo it clearly makes a difference to how games are played. However, from gameplay I've seen from the retail version, it appears that the physics engine has been toned down. This angers me as in the demo, if anything, the physics engine was not powerful enough.
There you have it. My rant about the problems in Madden NFL 13.Football - Chelsea Football Club
AFL - Gold Coast Suns
NFL - Indianapolis Colts
MLB - Detroit Tigers
NHL - New Jersey Devils
