    Do Ratings Really Matter?

This is a serious question. I keep hearing about ratings on the Line not mattering, people saying they can put a Punter on the line and still have some success blocking. Do ratings for other positions really matter though?

Yes it matters....not as much as it should but ratings do make a difference. This is speaking from past Madden's and NCAA's...

I thought the height and weight will matter more this year due to the infinity engine. Wouldn't that apply to the line play?

I've seen videos in the past I believe it was madden 11 where they have debunked rating "matter" he put like WR's etc on the line and they were able to block perfectly just because they were on the line . I believe even in 12 that has been fixed . Not sure about 13 yet.

I sure as hell would not expect them to simulate that set up at Tiburon. If the user wants to do that and is not happy with the result then so be it, you shouldn't be putting WRs on the Oline.

Ratings matter for only a few ratings in the specialist positions. This is assuming user control of these players.

          RB/FB - Speed, Break Tackle
          WR/TE - Speed, Catch, Jump
          DE/LB/DB - Speed, catch

As for none user controlled players, other ratings come in to play I'm sure but maybe not as much as it should. It is probably all very simple.

A Tackle with 90 - 99 pass blocking would have a 100% chance of stopping anyone he faces. 70 - 89 pass blocking would have a 90% chance of stopping anyone he faces.

I think (at a guess of course) that 1 position group trumps the other on any given play. That is, the Oline's ratings will almost always trump the front 7's ratings. You can have a pass rushing monster vs a lowly rated Olinemen, but somehow never get a sniff of the QB.

Ratings barely matter. There is zero difference between Alex Smith and Drew Brees in this game lol.

He's completely right. I mean Alex Smith is a joke. It's not like he made it to a conference championship game last year!

rating dont matter you can put peyton manning as cb and he will cover as good as any cb you can put ur whole line with qbs punters etc and on the other side have the elite players and they will block

                rating dont matter
that why i try take very low rated players i use as qb josh portis etc
he will over throw now and again for most part he good as any qb in the game

for my rb i used noel devine run over2,000 fumble maybe 3 times in one season
                he like 50-60 overall player

till rating matter ill keep have a underdog players on my team

Those videos are when the game is played on All Madden. As long as you don't play on all madden, yes the ratings matter... although not as much as they should

Im sorry. Alex Smith is terrible! If SF had ANY OTHER QB they would have beat NYC! I guess Trent Dilfer was great! I mean he did lead his team to a super bowl.

.....oh wait the bucs had the best defense that year as did SF last year.

But back to the question....ratings mean NOTHING!! Buy the game then go put Ben Roethlisberger at DB and have him play man on Calvin Johnson. See what happens.

As a Bucs fan I am insulted... Trent Dilfer never led the Bucs to a super bowl, Brad Johnson did. I believe you might mean the Ravens. As for Alex Smith he was above average last year.

Just to throw this out there 2 players last year had 400 pass attempts and threw 6 ints or less Aaron Rodgers was one and he threw the 6 ints Alex Smith was the other and he only threw 5 ints so to say he is crap is idiotic. He may not be the fantasy point QB or the most yardage but he is a good QB who takes care of the ball.

That's not true. I have tested the punter on OL theory - and yes, punters, kickers, DB's, whatever - they are able to block just fine. And this wasn't on all madden.

You could also see this when simming games. If you sim games with an oline full of kickers you will still see the same results that you would with legitimate Offensive lineman. No drop off whatsoever in RB production.
