Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
Yeah he just turned 50. I still can't figure out if this is for real or not. They're an independent league team so who knows, may be for real. -
Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
I just saw it on twitter, then googled it and got a couple links to various reports. We don't know much at this point and I haven't seen an official confirmation of any sort. But if its true, what could he possibly offer to an independent minor league squad with Scott Kazmir on their roster?
I wonder how much they'll be paying him if this is true. I'd imagine he wouldn't just come back to come back right? He's been out of baseball for awhile.Check out my Houston Astros Dynasties:

Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
To add on, just added on ESPN
Roger Clemens has signed with the Sugar Land Skeeters of the independent Atlantic League and is expected to start for them on Saturday at home against Bridgeport (Conn.).Clemens' agent, Randy Hendricks, said the pitcher's "fastball was clocked at 87 mph and four pitches were working, so everyone believes he can do it." He added that Clemens and Skeeters manager Gary Gaetti have been talking about this "for months."
"It is a fun thing and let's just see how he does on Saturday night. That will determine if he pitches for them again," Hendricks said. "Roger wanted to see if he could still do it, and today's workout showed he is ready."
He really is coming back...granted its an independent minor league squad, but he is really putting on a uniform and pitching again.Check out my Houston Astros Dynasties:

The team posted it on their Facebook page. But yeah, the team has Scott Kazmir and his former Astro teammate Jason Lane has been trying to make a comeback as a pitcher.I just saw it on twitter, then googled it and got a couple links to various reports. Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
Who knows
I always thought I'd seen the last of Roger on the mound in 07 when the Yanks paid him a ridiculous lump sum of money to pitch what basically amounted to half a season. Apparently that wasn't true.

If for some reason he does come to the MLB, he has a chance of breaking Satchel Paige's record for oldest player.Red Sox|Patriots|Celtics|UConnComment

Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
Considering Paige was 58, I doubt it highly.
I wonder just how serious Clemens is with this. I remember hearing that Bill "Spaceman" Lee pitched a couple games in the independent league within the past couple years so it's not unheard of for old pitchers to give it a whirl.Member of the Official OS Bills Backers Club

Who knows what will happen? Jamie Moyer might get bored and come back.Considering Paige was 58, I doubt it highly.

Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
He was interviewed when his son was pitching for a high school all star game that was being played on ESPN the other day. They showed a couple of shots of him pitching to some of the kids, with other H.S. pitchers watching. He still looks like he can do it. Maybe this just motivated him again and he's getting bored.Samsung PN60F8500 PDP / Anthem MRX 720 / Klipsch RC-62 II / Klipsch RF-82 II (x2) / Insignia NS-B2111 (x2) / SVS PC13-Ultra / SVS SB-2000 / Sony MDR-7506 Professional / Audio-Technica ATH-R70x / Sony PS3 & PS4 / DirecTV HR44-500 / DarbeeVision DVP-5000 / Panamax M5400-PM / Elgato HD60Comment

I watched that game and I kinda shrugged him off at the time, thinking he was just bored and trying to entertain himself. I was paying more attention to his kid, who was dominating on the mound than I was to Roger in the booth for an inning. He was interviewed when his son was pitching for a high school all star game that was being played on ESPN the other day. Not to nit-pick because you're right on, but I believe the game was on MLB network no?Check out my Houston Astros Dynasties:

Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
I actually work in Sugar Land, been to one of the Sugar Land Skeeters games before. Live around town, mainly interested in this to try to nab an autograph of Clemens.
The stadium was just recently built, pretty nice stadium for an independent team. Really nice.
I didn't know they had Kazmir, looked and he has been pitching awful. And this league has virtually no hitters worthy of MLB level, so you would think a guy who performed decently in MLB would dominant, but he has gotten drilled.
Like I said, it would be cool to nab a Clemens auto, wonder how much this will spike tickets for the team.7 National Championships

Re: Clemens Signs with Minor League Team
Not unheard of. Jack Morris pitched with the St. Paul Saints in 1996 after he retired.
Doubt it amounts to anything other than a nice experience for some fans.Comment
