what do you think of the new skating?

I am loving it. Only problems I am having that I wonder if any one can help me with is:

1) find it harder to stop and get in position. my guys sometimes almost look like first time ice skaters when breaking lol.

2) L3 to speed burst is tricky. I was never able to grasp it in the older games, but now it seems much more important to the game. how can you do this and skate? Feels very unnatural, to me at least.

Imo, the new skating in '13' alone, has made NHL '12' obsolete.

Once you start to learn it.. I'm with you.. 12 is but a distant memory. It feels like a brand new game to me. Playing different teams is going to be a different experience each time. Bravo EA, BRAVO!

Ya know Mizz...that's one of the big things that I really like about the NHL series. That for me anyway, each one of the last several demos that came out, all brought a different feel to the game. A few times, nothing too dramatic...but at least something. But this year!...man, what a difference! And I agree Mizz, NHL '13' does imo too, feels like nearly a completely different playing game.

And yep...if indeed the different team strategies bring a truly different experience to each game in GM mode, wow!...icing on the cake.

I really dislike the automated push-puck feature, and the backwards skating can get a little ridiculous at times, but otherwise, it's an impressive engine and a great addition to the game.

Agreed.. LA kept pressuring me in my end hustling to each puck.. felt great when I would get it out. lol...

Still getting used to it ..... I like it ... definitely a step in the right direction for this series.

An occasional fall while trying to turn really sharp would be a nice touch...... haven't seen that in the demo.....maybe in retail.

Overall.....very good job with this EA !

I love it. You have to think about what direction you are facing and how fast you are going. When passing the puck, you have to pay attention to the direction that player is facing. Just because a guy is "open" doesn't mean he is the best passing option.

You get a lot more realistic situations where a guy is caught flat-footed.

Im loving the new skating. It's gonna take me awhile to get used to it, tho. I wonder why there's so much distain about the backwards skating?

I'm loving it so far. One of my favourite things about it is the acceleration. Not to top speed, but more so when starting from a standstill. In 12, you could stop and go and spin and twist however you wanted. Now, it takes a bit to get momentum going and reach an average speed. Seems like this has really improved forechecking.

Love it. A few times I went into puck protect and my player kind of stopped skating and turned slowly and stuttered like they were stuck in the animation. Anyone else?

I didn't really notice a huge difference at first, but then I YouTubed a video of NHL12 (I haven't played hockey in about 6 months and I no longer own 12), and wow, does the old skating look bad in comparison. Made me appreciate 13 a lot more.

I find it... really hard to adjust to actually. This will be quite a challenge to use when '13 will be released.
