Re: NBA Live 13 Gameplay Video - Miami Heat vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

The more I watch this, the better it gets. Some of you guys should go back and watch the video a second and third time. You pick up little bits every time that you missed before. Like the entire crowd jumping up and cheering when Lebron stepped out of bounds. Or guys like Shane Battier going for a rebound but he can't jump high enough and it goes over his head while he's leaning backwards. Little things.

I am worried about the shot selection from the Thunder though. I know Durant likes to shoot, but man, he was chucking. I really liked that play where he didn't settle for the top of the key 3 and stepped in to take a 2. That was a nice sequence. There was also a really nice sequence where the Thunder passed it around the perimeter a bunch of times before Westbrook finally got the ball and drove to the hoop to finish. Sadly, the Heat didn't have many highlights because of the person playing, but I did see a great back door cut from Wade at one point, and he was wide open.

I also like the way the players move without the ball on offense. They don't overdo it, but they seem to move to the right spots. After setting a pick Ibaka ran to near the top of the key but still within jumpshot range. And it seemed like wherever the user moved, the AI teammates tried to adjust to the person with the ball's position. One time this kind of broke down into madness though ,where the Thunder players were passing each other the ball while standing 2 inches away from each other and all bunching up near the top of the court. But I'm sure stuff like that can be tweaked.

Overall though, I can't wait to see this game in the hands of a good player. I think some of you should watch this footage numerous times and see if you can't pick out positive aspects of it instead of bashing it.

Re: NBA Live 13 Gameplay Video - Miami Heat vs. Oklahoma City Thunder

Sept must really be the month this team plans to release info because its all they've got.

For a pre-alpha build I don't think this gameplay is terrible, especially because I think its missing certain technology that the Live team has been tallking about. Its time that they show us how far along the game has come though.

I feel like the game has to better than this gameplay because the Scott O'Gallagher and the Ad council are just on twitter going about their everyday lives and tweeting as if everything is fine and according to schedule.

So you didn't see the numerous amounts of sliding? The non-existant body contact on drives (due to the same sliding)? The bad net physics? Terrible dribbling? Generic shots? Physic CPU (Exhibited when the whole team ran back on defense BEFORE Shane Battier shot the ball)?

Way too many negatives. Especially when the positives are few and far between (Spacing being one of those positives).

the only tech thats missing is a solid foundation to build on, in the demo you can clearly seem the physic system is there, thats the cause of all the weirdness in gameplay being displayed ike the rebound and lebrons sliding, the same thing we seen in elite with the full physic system, its not like this physic system is a new thing to live basketball, elite 11 had the same physic system, so believe that if you like, your entitled to your opinion, as am i, in which i see the tech present but its not making a bit of difference because the foundation of the game is trash or not fundamentally sound

Sliding? It looked fine to me. I'm not going to nitpick over sliding. As long as the control scheme feels good in my hands I could give a damn if players are sliding. I don't even see it to be honest, or notice it.

Edit - Ok, I notice it when Lebron is trying to post up (in an awkward situation where the player controlling him has no clue what they are doing). Yes there was a bit of sliding. Not a big deal, but I do hope they fix that. Lebron kind of warped at one point. Again, that's a big deal to you?

I saw body contact. There wasn't excessive bumping like other games, but there was some contact to impede the progress of the offensive player. I am personally glad they don't overdo the contact like other games.

Bad net physics? And this effects the gameplay how? You're really going to nitpick over net physics??? The net looked fine to me. I liked the swish of the net when Durant shot that long 3. Again, looked fine to me.

Terrible dribbling? Lol, ok. What's so terrible about it? Generic shots? Looked like signature shooting styles to me. Besides the signature styles, Durants up and under shot, Westbrook's contact layup, Wade's nifty dunk and Lebron's contact layup all looked good to me and far from "generic".

Psychic CPU? Didn't even notice it. If it did happen, then this would be the one thing in your post I hope they address before release.

I do agree they have some rough spots to iron out before release, which I'm sure they will. This is shaping up to be a solid basketball game though for me. I am excited to give it a try in the demo, if there is one. Overall I think you're severely blowing things out of proportion if you consider all those little nitpicks major negatives towards the game.

                        1. Okey Doke.

                        2. So...you're telling me....you didn't see the defense slide into position in front of the ball carrier and when the ball was being passed on the perimeter? Okey Doke.

                        3. Because it's not fun seeing the same net animation(s) all the time. It's probably a ME thing. It's one of the main reasons why I detested playing NBA 2k5. The net didn't swish, the ball just sorta wiggled in there all the time. Especially on dunks. The visual effect was god awful on some of those dunks in that game.

                        4. The ball doesn't even hit the floor half the time. The Ball. Doesn't. Hit. The. FLOOR.

                        5. Really? Really? Go back. Watch the video to the point where Lebron passes the ball to Shane Battier. Watch as the whole team unleashes thier inner Javale McGee.

                        6. Okey Doke. If you're truly not seeing what anyone else is (everyone in this thread really)... Hats off to you good sir. You truly don't think the game is bad. Now if you could just point me to the store where you bought those killer rose tinted glasses....

Another small thing I noticed that I like: The defense doesn't even honor Wade's deep 3's really. He shot 2 that I saw in the video and Harden was just like whatever, go ahead and shoot them, and didn't really try to contest. That's pretty slick.

And I did see that weird thing where the entire team ran back on D while Battier was still gathering for the shot. I assume that's not going to happen in the retail version of the game. Oh no, a pre-alpha build of a video game had a glitch. Worst game ever!!!
