NBA 2K13: Top Ten Rookies and their Projected Signature Skills

When I pop NBA 2K13 into my XBOX 360 come October 2nd, one of the first things I’ll do is what I do every year, go to practice mode and check out the new rookies. In another life, I’d be an NBA scout. I’ve always enjoyed watching players progress from high school to college and analyzing what type of player they might be in the NBA. In the game, it’s fun for me to see how well rookies are captured appearance, ability and style-wise. And with the announcement of perhaps my most anticipated addition to NBA 2K13, Signature Skills, it will be even more interesting this year.

Rookies in NBA 2K have always been rated according to a specific scale which often does not do justice to their capabilities on the court. Granted a part of rating them is predicting how well their game will translate to the NBA, there are certain abilities that players just possess. Signature Skills could be the compromise which allows rookies to play like their real life counterparts though they may be rated conservatively.

The 2012 draft was deep with good ballplayers and there a couple of guys I’m excited about using in NBA 2K13. Here are my numbers ten through six most anticipated rookies, along with what I predict their Signature Skills might be.

I have to think that the top 5 you haven't posted are the guys who were the top 5 picks in the draft.

      Davis
      Kidd-Gilchrist
      Beal
      Waiters
      Robinson

Don't forget to add Jonas Valunciunas from the Raptors. Chosen in the 2011 Draft but a rookie this year.

            Good article .

Is anyone else shocked that 2k is giving Davis a 80 overall rating as a rookie ?

Not really. I see him as being equal to (if not better) than Tyson Chandler defensively. Chandler was in the range of 76-78 overall rating last year. And Davis most likely has higher offensive ratings than Chandler so that could account for the extra bump in overall rating. I think 80 seems to fit.

It will be interesting to see if he has the most signature skills. I would think he'll only have defensive signature skills.

                  1) Valanciunas
                  2) Terrence Ross (Looked nice in summer league, maybe he was the right choice at # 8?)

                  3) Damian Lillard (Looked awesome in summer league)

No love for Terrence Ross? I doubt he'll be in the top 5, but you know he's going to be a great video game player like Nick Young and JR Smith.

Only rookie in the class who was voted as one of the best athletes (2nd) and shooters (5th) by his peers. He should have his share of highlights with Lowry running the point and expert half court lob thrower Calderon as his back up.

He may have appeared to be a reach on draft night, but if you read around he destroyed all his workouts and dominated the one on ones (Austin Rivers called him his toughest guard).

Keep sleeping on him though! It's better this way.

Jones getting props! He is a beast and will be a force this season if he develops correctly
