Sim vs playing games

I have looked everywhere but could not find an answer. In connected careers coach mode, do you receive the same amount of XP points for your coach and players simulating a game vs playing a out a game. The reason why I ask is because it sounds like its a pain in the a** playing in exhibition games. I also may want to sim some games later in the season if they are not going to effect me getting into the playoffs. I do understand you need to play out practices to receive XP already.
