    Scouting

Ok I got madden 13, but I am having a hard time scouting. I can't seem to land the good players. What are some dead giveaways that lets you know they are pretty good? I thought scouting their awareness would tip them off but that failed also. I also looked at the team needs thing and that helped but are those the only ones in the draft. Please somebody give me the ultimate tip to scouting in 13.

If you use the team needs section, it'll tell you the overall of the players they suggest from the draft.

awr mixed with the traits that fit your system. you might draft a player that is an 80 in another system but a 60 for you. so you have to take the type of player that fits you

The way I'm testing is this:

First of all my number one goal is getting the expert scout package by week 12.

For now with 2000 points i started by scouting the scheme for any player that was in the 90s for size. That's a max of 80 players.

Once I finished that process I began scouting the players who had good production at the college level. I view the players with low production but good size to be projects.

The attributes I scout are physical (spd, acc, agi, str), mental (awr, prec), and skill (cth, cit, spec, mancvg, zone, tackling, etc).

Then I'll repeat that with the players with lesser production.

Now at this point I don't have number grades but I do have good estimates on the letter grades. Based off the results I will then start scouting positions of need out of the players that had good enough letter grades.

Once that is complete I know mainly what my draft board will look like before the off season.

Any extra points will be used for players that weren't necessarily areas of need but intrigued me.

Im thinking as house rule that I'll never unlock overall just so i can make it less transparent.

          So how's my strategy sound?
Treat a person as he is, and he will remain as he is. Treat a person as if he were where he could be and should be, and he will become what he could be and should be.

I don't scout overall simply because it costs so much xp.

That's pretty close to what I do.

You realize the XP you use for scouting is used solely for scouting right? That is the only purpose of that XP and is separate from the XP used for buying upgrades for your coach.

What's more important scheme or player type? If the player fits your scheme but has a different player type do you guys change the player type under your scheme or do you just leave it and train the player in the key attributes?

That is correct. I meant player overall.

Ok then I understand what you mean. I also like to have a bit of guess work so I don't scout specific attributes more than once. Leaving them at letter grades makes it more realistic and makes you look more closely at what you need.

Expert scouting package is something that increases the scouting XP you earn each week as a coach. It was the very first thing I spent XP on -- very beneficial.

I also have similar concerns to the OP. I have noticed that I'll scout guys that are extremely high in the ratings highlighted by the player type I have chosen under scheme, however, they still come in with extremely low ratings. So apparently there are other ratings that are far more important? I don't get it.
