There is no "hook" button really, but you can occasionally trigger a hook using the stick lift button.

You might as well call it the penalty button now. I'm not complaining, but it is less effective than previous years.

Hook button has been gone for a long time... Its all "contextual" You don't have any control when to hook. To many different controls(buttons) confuse people so EA made it easy for ya.

I believe if you press the "A" on 360 or the "X" button on PS3 while on defense, sometimes you get called for hooking, at least on NHL 12. Like bigwill and beef said it's supposed to stick lift, but just ends up getting you a penalty most of the time.

It ends up i giving you a penalty if you use it in the wrong place, wrong time.

If you're in a good position, and press X/A you'll do a stick lift and hopefully take the puck from the opponent.
However, if you're out of position / too far away you'll instead do a hooking or, more common, a high sticking.

            Couldn't be much better imo.
Rarely do you see the real NHL players try to hit someone in the face, or try to pull players down by hooking them.
They are usually trying to stick lift, or interfere by poking and hitting with the stick... But when they're out of position they fail, and commit foul plays.

Thank you EA - This game is officially better than sex
