As for EA listening... FWIW, I was asked by a dev for my thoughts on the demo. I didn't hold back.
Thanks for this I really do want to see FIFA be good for me but to many things hold it back. They have all the the tools and resource to pump out more realistic gameplay so there is no excuse. If they could only find that fine balance between casual and simulation I would be game another EA sports game that was able to find that balance was MVP Baseball 2005, loved that game.

It was a guy on my friends list who now works on FIFA, so it was informal to say the least. I gave a condensed version (still took 3 messages) of what I've said here: first touch is a good addition, default speed too fast/twitchy, not enough support from teammates, players lack urgency especially on defense, manual passes lack oomph, visuals look better, some nice new presentation elements, etc.

He hasn't replied, but he also hasn't removed from his friends list... yet.

To me FIFA 13 feels really similar to FIFA 12...I may have to cancel my preorder in disappointment.

Offline/online player? If offline, sliders really do something here, at least in the demo.

For online, it's more about your preference than anything.

Why is Cazorla not on Arsenal's squad?

The crabwalking thing really is weird/bad. Unfortunately, I doubt it's something they'll change but it definitely looks weird. Sure, some footballers might do that on occasion, but as a universal animation across the game, it's a bad choice. *sigh*

I've played around 15 games so far on PS3 and I like what I see and hear. The CPU does pass the ball back if you pressure them right. The refs do call fouls, I've even had a few penalty shots granted for some heavy contact. The commentary is absolutely amazing, talking about a player's negative form, lack of scoring, injuries, etc. Sliding tackles are easier to perform this year, which is a plus. There's a big difference with the AI when it comes to support, both offensively and defensively. This will definitely be a first day buy!

They said on Tuesday they were working to get him into the demo later this week. No updates since then.

Are you talking about the animation where they slide to save the ball from going out of play? I do admit it looks weird but you can go from seeing it a few times in a match to a bunch of times. It looks overdone especially when you see a player attempting to do it multiple times.

I believe it is RB (360) or R1 (PS3) that adds the curve to the shots

I'm struggling to see how 13 is that much better than 12 on the pitch

Yes, Attacking AI is better but it's at the expense of the Defensive AI as they could barely deal with the AI last year. They went from the extreme honing-missle tackles to all-out contain. The demo has some really good teams with top defenders like Kompany. Seeing him ignore fundamental defending principles makes me upset. Defenders consistently put themselves on the wrong side of attackers in the box or even worse give them space. On what level of footy do coaches/managers teach defenders to NOT close down in the box inviting pressure and allowing attackers easy entry into the box? Defending as a team is non-existent. How many times have you given up a goal in FIFA and said to yourself, "How the hell was he onside?" only to go to replay and see one of your defenders is totally clueless or just standing still. Team defense is a mixture of pressure & contain (think zone defense) with man marking principles.

Movement is still highly unrealistic with no regards to locomotion, consistent foot-planting. Players can turn on a dime two or three times in a row with no stamina and/or acceleration/deceleration penalties. It's not just attackers who exploit the lack of a foot-planting but defenders can also tackle and send in challenges due to lack of real reaction times. There's a time for pace but on the highest levels of the sport pace is mixed in with skill, a flick past a defender, a dip of the shoulder and accelerate, catching a defender flat-footed using their momentum against them (you can do this to some degree on FIFA but it's usually the result of unrealistic turns or stopping on a dime cuts).

The pace in '13 is even faster on default then '12. I thought the pace in '12 was pretty good and one of the advantages over the other game. I loved the fact that I had to build-up the majority of my attacks. Build-up play makes for better counter-attacks. When you're constantly fast-breaking up-field it cheapens the counter IMO because they happen so frequently.

Where are the player/team individuality traits? It's 2012 and players/teams still don't have signature styles. Every professional game should have these. NBA 2K does, Madden does, the Show does. Why not FIFA? What's the point of having all these licenses if the majority of the teams play alike and nothing like their real-life counterparts?

Why did they add "Total Dribbling" yet ignore the fact that everyone in FIFA can dribble the same with both feet? Even on all-manual there is no difference between passing with the stronger and weaker foot. This ties into foot-planting but imagine having to think about what foot you're on when passing? It would help to imitate all of the decisions you would make if you were out there on the pitch which ties into my next gripe

Get rid of full assistance. I'm sorry but just hitting a button and having the CPU pick out the player, power, AND placement of the pass is just too much IMO. Most players are already at a huge advantage because of the camera angle we play on (Tele) which allows us to see the field equally (you can see the runs in front of you as well as your options behind and laterally) so why not force people to use some skill? It would make the First Touch Control better because you'd have to think about the amount of power your placing on a pass. Passing is one of the most beautiful things about this sport and those who master it like Pirlo and Xavi have cult-like followings but with full assistance you're neutering players who make their livings off their vision and ability to hit out passes.

These are my biggest gripes with the Demo and this franchise in general.

Please don't take my negativity as someone who is just looking to trash the game because I play some of the other game. I think FIFA has the potential to be great but it frustrates me that they cater to a different user-base. If any game has the ability to do a 180 and NOT lose customers it's FIFA. Licenses & online modes alone will carry sales for this franchise.

I have only played 3 matches so far just now on ps3.. is it just me or does anyone else think FIFA 12 is is more realistic than this demo? I do so far.. I know I gotta play more though.

I feel like they have really forced me to try to tweak this game with the sliders which I haven't even started to do yet.. the default settings of the demo is unplayable for me.. how can the default game speed of normal be this fast?? this has to be a mistake.. I don't see how anyone could ever play those settings and enjoy this type of football.. I put it to slow speed for my 2nd game and I still feel it's to fast. is this really what the majority want? To me their default game speed should be slower than even their slow speed setting in this demo. I need to play this more but so far I'm really turned off by it bc of the games pace and flow. i'm sure it will be much better using all the sliders though just like last year.

It's a good thing they have all the sliders but this might ruin it for me wanting to buy the game for online play mostly. No one wants to play slow speed and full manual online hardly as it is now and the slider settings are not usually in the online play. I'm not going to waste my time online if the final game has this fast of gameplay.. no fun for me. I seen some mention the not so sim fast pace style is fun to play and makes it better for multiplayer... I totally disagree with that. This seems all about stick skill and how fast you can button mash.. nothing about buildup play.. patience or tactics is going to make you good at this game online I can tell already. but if you know how to button mash to the other end as quickly as possible you will be a FIFA legend online.

                                I only play offline.

The sliders are working a treat for me.

                                Pass error up to 85
                                Defensive marking up to 75
                                Fullback positioning up to 80
                                Speed 42
                                Acc 45
                                gme speed -- slow.

After about 10 games, Idon't think I've seen the CPU rack up over 80% pass accuracy. They'd average somewhere around 76%.

Heaps of turnovers under defensive pressure and bad 1st touches in the middle of the park.

Heaps of nervous moments defending. One time I had 3 quick fire shots on goal, hit the woodwork, Kompany blocked another and Arsavin shot wide on the last one. It was full of drama, last 5 mins down 1-0 and I threw everyone forward. Realistic stuff.

There are still big runs along the flanks if you get loose after a deflection or bad turnover, but in fairness, I get a few per game on the PES demo too.

I can't decide which game to get tbh ...

Passing is one of the most beautiful things about this sport and those who master it like Pirlo
I don't get the feeling Pirlo is Pirlo or CR7 is unique in PES ... PES feels like I have no time on the ball, and runs to fast at game speed -2.

The ball physics, team individuality and unpredictability are the thing that makes PES so freakin' good this year.
