GAMECHANGERS: Discoveries you've made that change the way you play.

Hello all, and welcome to GameChangers, where we note the little things in the game that make you stop and go "Wow!"

    My first GameChanger:

Now, I'm new to Madden (HC player) so you may not be as shocked as I just was. Don't base your Depth Chart on OVR whatsoever! Okay, not a GameChanger for you? Well for the first time, I just noticed that individual attributes change per position. Still may not be that much of a shock for you, but it goes even further to changing per side of line (should have mentioned I'm talking about OL Depth Chart)

For example. My starting C (or C formerly known as) OVR is always 86 regardless of his position (note all my OL schemes are the same, so that is why) but RBL and PBL are per position: LT r73 p65 LG r92 p82 C r92 p82 RG r78 p69 RT r73 p82 (IBL stays the same)

So as you can see, this player is best at C & LG is equal at PB at C LG and RT.

First time I've ever noticed an OL attributes changing per side of line. (again remember I've been playing HC since 06 not Madden)

What little things have you found that have made you change the way you evaluate?

p.s. the depth chart also determines for you which position a player can play by making him available/unavailable per position. ex. one of my RT can only play RT LT while my other RT can play all 5 positions.

me likey (unfortunately, i dont think there is any way to scout versatility like this during the draft)

      I noticed this as well.

If you move an OLB to RE, his tackle rating drops by around 20 points. If you move a DE to DT, his strength rating drops.

Im sorry but that is stupid. Ratings like strength, speed, acceleration, etc. are all be rated on the 0 - 99 scale, which already makes their rating relative to the rest of the players in the league. So if they want a DE to play weaker when going up against guards in the middle, THEN SPREAD OUT THE RATINGS MORE! A guy doesnt just get magically weaker when he moves to a different spot on the field, he just happens to be going up against someone who is much stronger. SPREAD OUT THE RATINGS

It's a reflection of their ability when performing at that position. It is not meant to be taken literally. Not sure what you mean by spreading out the ratings more or what that would accomplish if you already think changing them is stupid.

I agree. Look at a guy like Justin Tuck. He has the ability to dominate on the outside and inside..so madden doing that to simulate difference in strength is in fact very stupid and short sighted...

Just another poorly thought out addition my the Tiburon programmers...

I don't have an issue with some of the ratings dropping as I think the ratings also are reflected in what the primary duty of your position is. IE, a WR and CB speed is going all out down field with almost no resistance while a DE speed is in getting around a T to get to the QB. A guy like John Abraham has speed in doing his job, but he is not going to beat any CB in the NFL in a foot race. Same with strength. A DE's strength is all about leverage and using the T's momentum against himself. Now, you move a 4-3 DE to LB and you are talking about tackling guys in the open field and that is a whole different ball game and requires a different use of "strength". So I don't have a problem with their ratings taking a hit like that. Note: I played DT in school and move to MLB in some practices and trust me it is a different kind of strength. I could bowl over the fat farm boys on the line, but it is a different kind of strength when a FB is running right at you with a full head of steam. I was still the same strength, but that strength, speed, etc is applied differently which makes me seem weaker.

This is really neat, but I don't understand WHY this is the case. Can you elaborate on why your RT can play all 5 positions but your LT can only play 2 positions?

When the user controls a team, overall might not matter. But I know it does when simming. Also in the CCM depth chart, the overall is a good indication of how your players fit into your scheme. So if they have a low overall, they really aren't that good for the plays you run.

You need to rename this thread to little things or something if you want it to stay open. the title is going to lead it in another direction.

It's a cool concept ... Wish the CPU looked at players the same way... They start the higher OVR first and foremost.
