Something positive about M13, EA, and Moore, Looman & Co.

Most of you have probably figured out by now that I'm a diehard HC lover and Sim football player rather than arcade football player. (am i a fanboy? now? finally?)

I just wanted to start a thread that first, shares my hope and encouragement for the changes and potential for the Madden franchise now that it seems to be headed in the direction of HC offseason with Madden game play and graphics. I also hope that others will put the positive things they enjoy about M13 and express what does work and what seems like a step in the right direction. (How Pollyanna of me, I know)

I've seen what the team working on CCM can do. It's funny, I was just reading through my old private messages on here from 08-09 (because I haven't been on here since then until last week) and Dan Bekins sent me a reply about the weather bug surely being fixed in the next Head Coach. I kid you not, a tear almost fell. Oh, he was a Lead Programmer for HC09. It also got me thinking that there are real people working here and it is their job, thus their livelihood and I can just about guarantee you, none of them are doing it just for the money. It also struck me that it must have been just as hard on them as it was on me and some of you other HC fans that I know are still lurking around here when they got the news that HC would be no more.

I will admit and I bet a lot of the CCM team would admit that M13 is a bit of a Frankenstein right now but the potential is definitely there. At least from the perspective of someone who plays sim football games because a) I coach high school football b) enjoy living a life vicariously that I may not ever achieve (there are only 32 people in the whole world working as a Head Coach in the NFL y'know ) and c) like to feel like (just give me the impression I'm doing something unique, I don't have to know about the coding and numbers and rather it's all pre-determined...just fool me, LIFEdoes a pretty good job of it ) the choices I make and players I choose make a difference in what happens and reflects my virtual skill as a coach, not an arcade player. (Note: I have absolutely nothing against those people that like to play Madden and it is not an insult or demeaning in any way when I say Madden is/can be an arcade game. I know that there are 2 types of video game football players and without the Madden arcade players, I'd have no chance of getting any sort of a sim football game licensed by the NFL)

So, let's try to keep one positive thread going and I personally say thank you to the CCM team and quite selfishly hope they have their jobs for quite a while

Good to see a thread with a positive message for once. I was starting to think this was the Fox News forum what with all the negativity thats been posted recently....

Josh Looman and company have put together an amazing game. Madden 13 is truely what I have been hoping for in Madden in years. Yeah it isn't perfect, but I would hope not! I hope this version (m13) is the start of many more built onto this approach.

Truely there is so much about this game that is awesome, it is hardly possible to even compose a letter in detail of ALL the great things it does so very well.

The physics engine, the persentation, the commentators module is AWESOME and is more detailed then ever!

is it perfect? nope, but is it even possible to bash it? Nope. I don't see the point of bashing anywho. For $60 and the HOURS of gameplay (that is a fib, it is more like months of my life) it is worth every cent.

The game this year was a HUGE step in the direction of which I had hoped for many years. It has very little wrong with it in glitches that I can see.

So I applaud your thank you to Josh Looman and the EA Team that put this out. I hope the next 10 years of this game are built on this awesomeness.

Really, you must be playing JUST offline play now because every other gamemode has a huge list of bugs. Just search this forum. Offline playnow is solid, not many bugs in that mode. Wish all other gamemodes were the same.

Not many in online CCM, either.

Agreed. With the ability for them to instantly fix online CCM, I haven't been seeing any glitches recently. I'm almost finished with my first season, my only issue is the difficulty, I'm going to have to make it a little harder for the next season.

                Good post.

After playing the game on Season Ticket last month, I decided that the game had way too many problems for me. However, at the same time I realized that the game was deeper and more interesting than ever before. I'm excited to see where they take the game next year, and hopefully they'll make one that I want to buy.

Having said that, have they fixed the CPU play calling yet?

Madden MAY be on the right track. Right now, the most positive thing I can say is that they MAY FINALLY have a foundation for the future. But they still have to prove it by continually refining and enhancing from here on out and not doing ANOTHER 3 year plan that holds the game back. Make me a believer.

What would make me positive about Madden:
                    Re add the missing features.
Implement a more realistic progression system (give option for current or realistic)
Keep refining and enhancing more realism and depth into both game play, off season, and things outside of game play during the season.
Hire coaches to fill a coaching staff, hire scouting staffs and have them tie into progression, player evaluation, motivation, game planning, etc.
Have better financials. Something sort of like MVP2005.
Have Practice Squads to develop young talent.

So much more could be done to make Madden more realistic. So please, no more 3 year plans. Stick to this one and keep refining and enhancing. Make me a believer!!!!! And many positive statements would follow.

So yes, they could be on the right track. This could have future potential. I just need to see it before believing in it.

Great post! I think this game is a good foundation to build upon. Whatever little problems exist (Player editing, 32 team control) they can look to build into without causing major bugs, while refining gameplay and the physics engine. I am enjoying this game for what it is, the start of a new direction...

Big HC fan myself, but I've been enjoying Madden more and more since M10 came along (Madden 09 was just pure pain). M12 in particular was a lot of fun and made good strides with career mode with unpredictable drafts, decent scouting, UDFA's (hey, I liked it), cut days, etc.

M13's CCM mode is definitely on the right track and a few things about it hearken back to HC in a good way. They need to 're-open' it with at least basic player editing for numbers and equipment for M13, but otherwise it's fun.

I hope the team continues in M14 with editing, 90 man rosters in offseason with UDFA's back in to sift through (look for a diamond in the rough), more elaborate season weeks with gameplanning, scouting your opponent and preparing plays for them, an injury mechanic like HC09 had so player management vs injury risk is back in, etc. I know, not the wishlist thread but what the hell.

I want to say this respectfully as to not insult the developers, but having user customization offline should have been a priority since they can almost immediately address issues with online tuners but the offline user can not. If Madden offline was fully user customizable I think the forums would be flooded with user to user offline custom settings threads over complaints. Forcing connected careers into an all in one may make sense on development time, but is always only going to be from this point on, beneficial to the online environment. October is a long time to wait to see if I should purchase the game every year.

I'll second that. I think they are onto something really good...keep refining this, don't blow it all up again for M14.

I'm sorry but I can't say anything positive about CCM until all the features of regular dynasty mode that were unexplicably taken out are brought back. Hopefully they address it really soon. Until then I can't even start a season. True, long time Madden players have been alienated. Madden has turned into a RPG geared towards the casual fan. This isn't football anymore.
