The Dallas Cowboys: moving Tony Romo and starting anew

So has anyone tried to move Romo for anyone interesting? If so, please share.

It seems as though the best course of action may be to unload him for another squad's high draft pick (and a wideout or other position of need) and roll with Vince Young/Kellen Moore/Mallett for one season before targeting a marquee QB prospect in the draft.

I'd love to hear opinions from others.

Why would you trade Romo? He's who keeps the offense together.

This seems to assume the Cowboys are in rebuilding mode, which they're not.

Or, that he likes the cowboys, but like Bill Parcells, never warmed up to Romo so wants something different.

in real life? yes the Cowboys need to move on from Romo.

in the video game...na I'd keep him, he is mobile and they don't take his cautiousness passes late in games into consideration.

I don't think this question deserves it's own thread, but this post made me think of it. Has anyone been able to get anything for Vick? All I've been able to get was a 2nd and 7th at best.

Mmm, not sure where that comes from. Jerry was opposed to benching Bledsoe midseason to begin the Romo era, while Jerry thought the team was packing it in for the season by promoting Romo.

And Parcells was willing to make tough roster choices in order to find room to stash Romo as the 4th QB on his regular season roster years earlier because he liked him too much to risk losing him by trying to sneak him onto the practice squad (compared to Jerry who has lost guys like Matt Moore because he couldn't even make a tough choice on keeping a 3rd QB, and got burned by rolling the dice and cutting guys the team knew had a future).

I think you give Romo 2 seasons to produce in the postseason and if nothing happens then you consider rebuilding. Cowboys have the talent just depends can they put it together and Romo is the offense its just he seems to always come up small in the big game.
It’s easier to do the right thing, than to explain why you didn’t.

I traded him to the titans during the first offseason for the number one overall pick and some other picks. Anyway got pooh carlson and he has been awesome.

No, no they don't. The Cowboys do not need to move on from the guy who has the second highest career passer rating in the history of the NFL. Now, he's definitely not the second best quarterback to ever play, but he's certainly one of the top qbs in the league.

Regarding his late-game performance, there are a few plays that everyone remembers being "unclutch" and the media likes to hype it up. The reality is that Romo has the highest career fourth-quarter passer rating among active quarterbacks, and the only reason the Cowboys had a chance in many of those games he was labelled "unclutch" is because he was on the field.

Tony makes mistakes, but so do other quarterbacks. The difference is that other quarterbacks have teams that allow them room for mistakes, whereas the Cowboys can barely win games even when Tony is playing great.

Well yeah. You lose most games where you're tailing late. Winning 1/3 of those games anyway is significant.

Another difference is that Romo gets more flak for throwing late picks than 90% of QBs in the NFL.

That said, I've had my moments of hating him, like last year's opener against the Jets where he threw a pick straight into Darelle Revis' hands (no receiver in a 10 yard radius). But ultimately I agree with you that his good play generally outweighs the bad. I don't think he's great, but I think he's good, and good enough to lead a super bowl team if the talent around him performs consistently.

I'm tired of this ideology that certain players/coaches are not cluch and therefor not good. If it wasn't for Romo you wouldn't have even been in those big games that he "blew".

Dan Marino is still one of the greatest QBs to ever play the game.
Marty Schottenheimer should still be coaching the Chargers, and is still one of the greatest coaches of all time.
Bob Stoops is one of the greatest College Coaches
Petyton Manning an 1st round hall of famer

All of these guys have faced incredibly tough situations where one play was what seperated them from media greatness/humility. When top talent is put against top talent chance is often the deciding factor. I'd take any of these guys any day in my franchise.
