Pardon my ignorance but I'm getting smoked all of a sudden

I just got the game yesterday and was having good competitive games. Good checking, nice skating and passing with the puck since I was getting use to the new skating mechanic, getting some good defensive plays and over all it was having good balance games. I played today and to my knowledge I haven't DLed any tuners or patches except for some roster update I was force to DL to go online. I have NOT DLed patch 1.02. Anyways, today I played and to continue to get used to the new mechanics I played using the Rangers against one of the teams in one of the Europeon leagues. They had two stars for every category but played like a team of Gretzkys. They were threading the needle on passes, handling the pucks like they were glued to their sticks, my players couldn't get three steps without a defender on top of me, I could NOT get a solid check to save my life(I finished one game with 3 hits), their goalie covered the net like he was Jabba the Hutt on Meth, and worst of all they were drilling one timers, hitting the top shelf, and beating my goalie so badly he'd be on the total opposite side of the cage from the shooter.

I'm seeing the complaints about the new tuner sets and as I said, I'm pretty hadn't DLed anything other than that one roster update. This is my first NHL game since 11. I guess my questions are 1) what the hell is happening to my game and 2) how do I find out what tuner set I'm using, which patch I'm using, and how do I remove them if necessary. Thanks to anyone that can answer any of the above or just let me know I'm not the only one with this issue. BTW, I stink so I play on Pro level. Thanks again...

There are a few threads about this, I just made one myself. The AI gets an INCREDIBLE boost against HUM controlled players this year. There are points in the game where you can do NOTHING to stop them no matter what you do and they will score at will.

I'm returning the game because of this. It shouldn't be harder to beat the AI than it is a human controlled player. Pathetic.

This is weird. I haven't seen the computer make any traditional catch up goals, or ever even feel like any sort of catch up logic took effect. Same story for my roommate. Random thought, what region version are you playing on?

        Ya, it's just kinda weird.

Myself, like many others were happy as heck with the game the first day or two. Then bang!...wth! Not sure if it was the update I downloaded, or the tuners or freaking what. I thought I was playing a solid balanced/fair game the first day. Now, I feel helpless vs the AI. And my much anticipated GM mode is at a stand still till hopefully I can fix some of the issues I'm having being at least somewhat competitive. I mean...being down by four goals after one period it's much fun.

Pretty much what Vikes said. Things were going great the first day I had it then literally it was like I was playing a team loaded with superstars and this was a two star rated Europeon team. Their passes were perfect, I couldn't get two steps without their defenders being all over me and they were blowing up the back of the net. A strange thing I did notice was that the games seemed more competitve from a scoring and shots on goal standpoint when I was playing against an NHL team but when I was an NHL team against one of the lower tier teams it was a constant barrage of SOG until they scored. What did NOT change was my sudden inability to land a solid check, stop their deadly accurate passes, an almost total disability to get the puck out of my end of the ice or be able to get one of my guys to take more than two steps with the puck without their players mugging me. Now, this is the first NHL game I've owned since 2011 and it's probably been over a year since I played a video hockey game but while I'm not nearly the best player out there and there is a learning curve, I am NOT this inept especially considering for now I'm playing on Pro level and was having pretty even games.

I'm in complete agreement with you guys on this. The gameplay balance is horribly broken this year. If EA won't acknowledge this, I'm strongly considering selling while the value is still high so I can cut my losses. I play this game to have fun, not be infuriated by AI issues that prevent you from even being competitive.

If the game was somehow better when you first played and seems to have changed why don't you just reinstall the game and make sure you aren't connected when playing so as not to d/l anything by mistake.

So it's fine when you do NHL vs. NHL?..... What's the problem then? Just don't use NHL teams vs. low tier teams.

Do you think EA would consider issuing me a partial refund since Ill only be able to use part of the teams?

Just do Euro teams vs. Euro teams, and NHL teams vs. NHL teams. All teams used!

I just don't get why you want to play against teams much worse than the one you're playing with. But, to each his own, I guess!

I play a ton of GM Connected games vs the AI and there are just some games that I get blown out..............but during those games, its because I am just not playing well or I am trying to do the same thing a lot. I think the adaptive AI is great and it forces you to mix up the way you play both defensively and offensively. I dont see the magic "boosts" that the AI gets, its just some games you cant get anything to work and your opponent is all over everything...................that happens in real hockey as well which is why I dont have a problem with it.

                        Agreed!

I have played about 12 games so far and have failed to see the AI get these magical boosts that sine people are talking about. No disrespect to those who hold that opinion, I just don't see it. I've givenup a couple goals in quick succession before, but I can always pinpoint the reason why, some sort of poor defense on my end.

I am finding Pro and Hardcore as the perfect mix so far. Games feel as close to real hockey as they ever have.

I find at All-Star the CPU starts to 'cheat' when it needs a goal. At Pro I am getting much more balanced games. With the hardcore game style, the puck is so looser and passes aren't 100% accurate.

I am able to play the shooting and passing lanes, the AI still work the puck and get a good amount of shots, but without the extra 'boosts' from the higher skill levels.

I agree. This "comeback" speculation is ridiculous. I can hold a lead because I'm Canadian and I know hockey. It runs deep in my blood. I can read passing lanes, and for the love of pete I can sacrifice the body to block a shot.

I can read a forecheck and can counter-attack formations as they change. I used to coach hockey for pete's sake. So really my advice is not to become . No, my advice is to learn the game. If I went on the NBA 2k boards trashing their game because I couldn't score a layup I'd be labelled a troll and ridiculed.

If I don't know the count to execute a hit-and-run on MLB the Show, should I spam the board with " THIS GAME IS CRAP GET YOUR ACT TOGETHER SCEA!"

                            hmmm. perspective perhaps?

Haha well, Gopher, the reason I was using NHL vs the lesser teams is because I don't follow the modern NHL at all(followed it religiously in the Gretzky and Lemieux days and go to several local AHL games a year) but I love the video games so I don't really know who the elite players are and the last game I played was NHL 11 and it was only minimal. I'm playing the way I am for now to get familiar with the players, gameplay, and the new skating engine. It doesn't help that I generally stink. I deleted all the files I had for the game since I was only doing exhibition to this point and the games I've played have been fair and seemingly balanced. I'm still having trouble hitting solid checks but I'm chalking that up to me still getting use to the skating engine and how in real life even a few inches here or there and it changes the whole dynamic of the check.

Anywho, irrelevant to everyone's point of view on the topic, I appreciate everyone who took the time took to contribute.
