Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
I started out like you - I hated it. But I stuck with it and started out with Krebstar's FIFA12 sliders and started tweaking a little from there and now I'm really enjoying how it plays. I've been switching back and forth from 12 to 13 and I don't notice the speed difference on slow anymore. I really can't tell the difference between the two - even playing back to back. And at first I was infuriated with how "fast" the slow speed was.Glad I had a chance to try this out before I bought it. This game is an absolute joke. It looks like EA decided to crank up the speed because they were afraid all of the imperfect touches would kill the NBA Jam feel of the game. There is absolutely nothing slow about "Slow". The CPU still passes way way way too accurately. They still don't take enough chances. It basically defeats the purpose of playing with full manual controls because you simply cannot keep up with the perfection of the CPU over the long haul. And I'm not interested in another year of tweaking sliders endlessly, only to realize in the end that you can't undo what the game is programmed to do. I pre-ordered this, but I won't be buying.
So make sure you use the same slider set you were using with FIFA 12 and see if that helps.
About my only real gripe at this point is the stupid crabwalking maneuver that your player does when it gets within like 20 feet of an opponent. That should be a "special" move and not defaulted into the game. I especially hate it because it takes me off my path and puts me on "rails" and I usually ended up making a bad move or a bad pass because of it.
After going back and forth between 12 and 13 lots of times here is what I've noticed. In summary - I'm not sure if there is 65 reasons for me to buy this game tomorrow but it's certainly an improvement over FIFA 12.
- The menus feel very "flat" in FIFA 12 now
- The atmosphere is better in 13 than 12
- The impact engine is much improved in 13 and for the most part is a meaningful addition to the game.
- The first touch addition is a winner in my book
- Everything feels more organic in 13 versus 12
- The skills games are ridiculously addictive and fun
- I'm seeing that different teams do play differently now
- I'm not seeing so much that different players play differently though
- Pregame stuff is cool in 13
The thing for me though is that when I go back and play 12 it's still fun and engaging. FIFA 13 is better but I haven't decided yet whether it gets my money tomorrow or not.Comment

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
That's a shame... Think it was an excellent feature from Madden. Also I'm pretty sure in the build up to FIFA 13 (when EA released the features for Career Mode) they said it would be in the game...
Managers Office
- You can now view any available managerial positions via the Jobs Board, this allows you to change clubs mid season should you wish to.
- Your manager now appears on the touchline in matches based on customisation options chosen at the start of Career Mode

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
The crab walk really is infuriating and it's hard to imagine why they'd incorporate something so utterly idiotic.
Like you said, it'd be one thing if certain players did it or if it were triggered by a combination of buttons, because it's not *always* useless. However, to see everybody on the pitch, from wingers to centerbacks to target men, moving around the pitch like that as a *default*...truly stupefying.Comment

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
Seriously, so one of the developers actually sat there and thought "you know what would be a good idea, lets force a crabwalking animation"....
How that makes it into the release is truly baffling.
A cool little thing I just saw during a match, the ball went out of bounds to the side and one of the players on the other team casually kicked it in the air to his teamate to take the quick throw-in.Comment

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
played more games and it's growing on me more now. Tweaked my sliders and I think I found a sweet spot. I have also noticed that teams do seem to play differently and I've also noticed changes in tactics during a match.
My big negatives so far are the forced crab walk and the bouncy ground passes. Really hope EA fixes that. Also the brain dead defense that watches balls roll by. That even happens with offense also. Many times now I've passed to a teammate and he watches the ball roll by and instead let's it go to another teammate thats nowhere near the play.Last edited by rckabillyRaider; 09-23-2012, 11:43 AM.Comment

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
I'm seriously considering cancelling my pre-order, to me the game feels exactly the game. Unlike a lot of people I liked the demo better, the A.I seemed excellent both for you on attack and for the CPU in general. You really noticed the changes but so far it feels exactly the same.
Same cheesy moves by the CPU who feel invincible and frustrating to play against. Same ridiulous speed. No midefield play. Pace is overpowered again. As well as many other problems.
You notice some things but they are very minute, It's a shame I spent £20 to play it early(that's how excited I was) but I guess I get to play other games early next year as well so it's all good. I might still get it, the graphics, modes and licenses really are appealing whereas PES as much as I love it just feels very bland. If we only we had FIFAs extra features and PESs gameplay.
Who knows, maybe I'll only get Football Manager this year.....

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions
Fouls are not an issue. They are definitely in the game.
I was booked for 2 yellow's my last game and both fouls were really borderline. Could easily have been free kick restarts. I was shocked to get booked.
Earlier I posted that I could not get carded no matter what I did. Wrong! I received a red for tackling from behind.
But, the perfection of the CPU passes kills any enjoyment for me. I set the cpu pass error slider to 75 and they ended a game with 96% passing.
The cpu also plays too directly forward for me. All teams seem to play the same. The build up is non existent, even with Barca and Spain.
Barca had a 2 goal lead and still barreled forward. They do not play that way, ever, not even with a 1 goal lead. They normally move it around laterally and allow the opposition to simply die a slow death and be utterly frustrated in the process.
To make matters worse, Messi was subbed in with 15 minutes left. Not a defender. Not a defensive midfielder. Messi! A striker for a striker.
Next game the Dutch had a 2 goal lead on me (USA) and the only sub was a wide forward for a, wait for it... wide forward!
This is killing the game for me.
2 of my issues from last year have been eradicated. Kudos to EA for that. Fouls are nice to see and shooting from distance is nice to see.
But, every team seems to play the same, way too direct. CPU passing is too precise and the cpu AI is terrible.Comment
