Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions

Fellows I am having a blast with this game. Even though I'm a "Couch" soccer fan and don't really know all the In's/Out's of the game I am loving this yrs version.

Was playing using LA Galaxy vs Earthquakes and had a Red Card called against the Quakes goalie as he took Donovan out as I tried to score. I'm seeing plenty of Fouls/Penalties and it varies with each and every game, now last yr when it came to fouls I was left with SMDH.

If someone could be so kind as to explain to me what is the "D-Pad" used for in game and when should I be using it??? For 2 yrs now I have no idea what I am supposed to do. Thanks in advance

d-pad is used to choose quick tactics during the game, and set the team's mentality (ultra defensive, defensive, balanced, attacking, ultra attacking). if you use custom tactics, and trust me, they make a big change to how your team plays, you choose them as well during the game.

The catalog is in the EAS FC menu. You can access it directly by pressing X on 360 (or square on PS3, I assume). The different unlockables are sorted by levels corresponding to your EASFC level; 1-10, 11-20, 21-30, etc. I believe the player editing in CM option is in the 21-30 bracket.

There are 125 unlockables, IIRC. There are boots for your virtual pro; +1 attribute increases for online/career VPs; extra games and points H2H Seasons (which seems absurd!); and a few career-related perks like editing, an international job offer; having your scout find a 'future star'; or even a 'billionaire takeover' of your club increasing your budget.

Blargh. I think I'm pretty low level.

a little question about EAS FC:

"This year within EA SPORTS Football Club, returning FIFA 12 players will carry their Football Club Level and XP into FIFA 13 so their season starts as strong as it finishes."

              Is it true?

Yes, whatever level you were in 12 you will be in 13.

Just had a glitch in ranked online play that let me edit the tactics and squad of the opposing team and not my own. I don't think it actually edited theirs but it was ****ing stupid. I couldn't make any changes or anything. I took a video.

Re: FIFA 13 Season Ticket Early Release Impressions

BCFan's post reminded me of a major gripe with playing FIFA online, even with friends... no custom tactics. A few years ago, they removed the option to use custom tactics online because people were using high-pressure settings that took advantage of the second defender pressure command. Too bad the problem was with the defensive system, which they changed last year.

However, we still can't freely switch between custom tactics online. I believe D-pad quick tactics are available, but do they work properly? I've never found them to an effective way to manage my team strategy. This is a good example of limiting the tactical depth of the game, even when the foundation is there.

Hey Qb I'm planning to buy the game...just few questions:

                        a) Does every CPU opponent play the same style?
                        b) Is the CPU AI Improved over FIFA 12?

of course a) is the most important for me....

                        Thanks in advance

Mauro, I wish I could answer your first question, but I haven't played enough teams to do so. I think some of the pieces are in place; ie, custom tactics, player traits/tendencies, etc. However, it seems the stock team tactics are rather generic in many cases.

As for your second question, it depends on what you mean by "AI". If you mean how the CPU manages its strategy during a game, I'd lean towards no (again with the limited play caveat). I'm not sure if the CPU will change its formation based on situation or personnel; it seems to be mostly 'like-for-like' substitutions based on fatigue. I'm fairly certain they use attack/defense level throughout the match, and possibly change their team tactics as well (like the user quick tactics). But it leaves a lot to be desired and an overhaul to the CPU 'manager brain' would truly move the game forward.

If you're asking about the on-pitch behavior of AI players, that's a tougher nut to crack. It appears to be more active if nothing else. Attacking players make more runs, some of which are rather smart. Defending is dodgy at times, especially when it comes to your AI teammates helping out. If I had to say yes or no, I'd go with yes. However, I think the overall defensive approach needs to be re-thought.

I turned up passing errors for both sides, and this seems to have two effects on the game:

                                1) Obviously, the ball is a bit looser now. Both sides, aren't quite so precise with the passing.

                                2) Because of that, I'm seeing more midfield battles and more fouls. Since players can't just pass around quickly, and more passes are getting intercepted, I'm seeing more scrums for the ball. Because of it, more fouls.

                                Just my anecdotal evidence.
