Should EA Throw In The Towel This Gen?

been reading so many blogs..Man, so many "experts"

The next gen is right around the corner.. Should EA be working hard to put out an nba game this gen when nba 15 or so will probably be out on the next xbox or ps?

    What do you think?

They should focus on a great NBA Live 14 and continue to build a great foundation leading up to next gen.

I'm going to say yeah, just scrap what they have and focus on next gen console. There is just no possible way for them to catch up with the competition. A smarter move for EA should have been not to cancel NBA live 13 and actually port or release for 'PS VITA'. I feel the graphics and gameplay look appropriate for the a vita handheld game. It probably would have sold pretty good being that 2k didn't make use of the VITA technology. As for console version, they are just toooooooo far behind to catch up this gen, the gameplay video that was leaked and their willingness to not release any concrete gameplay or media coverage just proved that!

They should focus on their other sports titles and leave basketball to 2K.

Maybe they should release a demo version of 13 just to collect feedback. They need to hear what fans like or dislike.

They have more feedback than they know how to handle. Their problem is the ability to produce a game that addresses the concerns and uses the ideas contained in the mountains of feedback they've received over the last 2-3 years.

EA should forget about basketball until next gen. EA would be better served putting together an offering for MLB, where no competition currently exists on the 360 platform.

I don't understand this sentiment, everyone is screaming for Competition in Football but not Basketball? NBA Live still has brand recognition, if they made a great game then people would buy it. I like NBA 2k but there is def. room for another game.

I do however think EA should focus on Next Gen. I have heard that NBA 2K's engine may not look very good on a next gen system if they do decide to port again

I think they have HEARD very well. They just don't LISTEN.

2 things that EA doesn't need any more of, in order to create a decent basketball game:

                  1) Money.

                  2) Feedback.

Unless you heard that from someone at VC, I would dismiss it completely. No one knows how their engine is built. This was the same messed talked about at the start of the current gen. How did that play out?

I Think they should at least try to release a Live 14 for feedback, Because as of right now i Wouldnt even rent it for Next-gen

Re: Should EA Throw In The Towel This Gen?

I would hope that they can attempt to produce a solid game before the new systems are out so HOPEFULLY they could build on it. Forget catching up to 2K because there's no way to do so. EA Sports is only in competition with themselves. They've shown in this era that they just don't have what it takes to make a playable basketball game other than Live 10 (IMO). I actually thought that after playing NBA Live 06, that 07' had to be crazy good, but we all know how that turned out, "broken". I don't care what kind of modes and feautures are in the game. If the core on-court basketball gameplay is not solid, nothing else matters. I honestly hope there are some other companies to come out with an NBA game. I too like a different experience when it comes to b-ball gaming. EA has too many resources to be putting out/ not putting out solid b-ball title. They need no feedback, they just need a development team that's gonna step up and not accept sub-par work. There's no excuses.

Well right now the NBA Live devs are already taking feedback for NBA Live 14 so if you got a wishlist send it their way. http://forums.nba-live.com/viewforum.php?f=131

The only wishlist I seen on that link was for Live 13. Didn't see anything about next year.

People are screaming for competition in in football games because they aren't satisfied with the only product out there. But in basketball, NBA 2K is widely regarded as the best or second best sports game out there, so people don't really want another basketball franchise.

I don't know if NBA Live still has brand recognition anyway. They haven't made a game in 3 years, so there are probably a lot of people that have forgotten about it. The rising popularity of 2K doesn't help.
