Personally I like a 3-4 because it gives you faster players on the field to stop a run or pass. You also blitz each time and still have enough players to bring back into coverage, making a pass rush harder to defend.

Honestly it depends with each team, but I prefer the 3-4.

If Im using the Seahawks im using a 4-3 though

I feel that 3-4 OLBs are better pass rushers then most DE's but the DE's have the better run stopping traits (whole point of 3-4 vs 4-3) As a Texans fan, I prefer the 3-4, but I mainly use the nickel and sub packages, cause I dont like using a NT on the field, just looses a DB that can be playing the pass.

It really depends on the players you've got or are targeting. I prefer rolling with a 4-3. If you have good DE's and maybe one solid DT you can get pressure without rushing your linebackers all the time. I generally look for fast LB'ers who can cover guys.

I like both but I am more interested in the hybrid D. A 3-4 where either or both outside linebacker slides into a three point stance and creates a 4-3. You have for all intensive purposes a versatile 5-2 with either outside backer capable of fulfilling some linebacker roles. Its just so versatile and easy to mix up blitzes (1 or 2 blitzers esp)

Against the CPU it doesnt matter what base set you use. If they cpu runs the ball, the runner bounces off his own man and the defense cleans up lol.

Online against a human, I would be more concerned with the best Sub-set formations. Guys dont run as much this year, because pass defense is super broke so why run?

If you are gonna use the 3-4 you NEED to control one of the MLBs. From there you have the ability to use run fit techniques and can patrol the middle of the field in pass defense (where about 70% of all throws go user vs user). That said, the 4-3 is a very balanced defense that can defend that pass and the run equally effective and you can play just about any position. You have to know what you are doing when you run the 3-4 IMO.

I would say it also depends on what players you control as well. I play with the Chiefs and switched to a 4-3 because I mostly control DE/DT... I am a better pass rusher as a DT that the cpu is with a OLB

only ever play with a base 3-4, but add 2-3-6 2-4-5 etc. i actually control the NT, however you tried finding a 320+lb 6'2"+ NT who is strong? then again i only play offline vs cpu

OK propose Im the Broncos which D would you recommend? I go with 3-4 so I can have Miller and Mays blitzing while Champ and Porter cover. Great addition by the Broncos. Dumerville and Wolfe are great Ends. DT is weak in my eyes but thats the Draft!

Stay 43. Denver doesn't have good interior DL, you'll get eaten alive up the middle. Your nickle set will have von rushing the passer

It really depends on your personnel would be my biggest advice. With a 4-3 you want smaller, faster dl, with a 3-4 you need bigger dl. That's probably the most important thing. As far as the schemes themselves a 3-4 is more versatile. The zone blitz 3-4 that the steelers run is probably the best scheme for pass rush but u better have an outstanding strong safety to run it.
