Re: NHL 13 Tuner 1.04 Available, Details Included
Can anyone confirm anything about the effect of 1.04 after deleting game data? I got frustrated with my BaGM cause I felt like injuries were too high and my CAP with 99 durability was getting injured for 6-7 weeks at a time. But that's beside the point. I still wasn't fully satisfied with penalties (I've mentioned before still avg. 5-6 penalties overall per game but I'm only getting about 2 PP/game)
So I decided to delete everything except my roster save and start from scratch. This time, BaP with my own CAP, rather than BaGM. I d/led the tuners, modded the sliders to my own, and the first BaP game I had, my team took 2 penalties and the CPU Rangers took 7. I went 2/7 on the PP, but since it's BaP, I simmed to next shift for the most part so I didn't see the penalties but I was on the PP1 line so I got a lot of PP action.
I'm just trying to figure out if it's because BaP only allows you to play full 20 min periods (even though I only have about 20+ min total shift time), or because I reinstalled all game data/tuners from scratch, or pure coincidence.
And how are everyone's sim stats regarding penalties? I know for the first 40 games of my former BaGM which were all simmed (before game data reinstall, 1.04, 10 min per. on all-star) I was still last on power play attempts by like 10 attempts. Does period length really affect the amount that get called even if the penalty scaling slider is at 0?Comment

I think the majority of casual gamers, online gamers, and casual TV sports viewers prefer fast-paced, high-scoring games, no matter what sport it is. The main reasons, if you will, I hear from friends about why they don't like baseball and golf, for example, are because they are "slow" and "boring." Faster games usually means bigger hits, high-octane offenses, and more appeal to the casual fan.
With stats being even more available, detailed, and maybe even overhyped, people want to see numbers. There are fewer and fewer people who can enjoy a 1-0 pitching duel in baseball, a 7-6 defensive struggle in football. I've always been one for realistic stats in games, and I'm a huge sports fan all around, and I can't find anyone that still enjoys some "old-school" type games, for lack of a better description (and I'm only 26). Also, the increasing popularity of fantasy sports may have an effect.
That said, I love creating myself as an 18-21 y.o. rookie in all simulation sports games I play, which is just about all of them (except Madden since you can't so I don't play that this year), I am highly involved in fantasy football and I'll admit more points and faster play usually translates to more exciting, but I still enjoy a lot of parts of the all sports that most would consider "boring" and those like me are few and far between.Last edited by meetjsquared; 10-04-2012, 03:07 PM.Comment

What is so fast paced about game speed of 3, seems about right to me.
Remember this game is played on ice not dirt.Comment

Re: NHL 13 Tuner 1.04 Available, Details Included
Happened again and this time i'm sure about it. Same sequence: Played Be a GM for 2-3 hours, skating speed went crazy. And its not like whole game runs fast, its just the maximum skating speed, players cannot turn with that speed. And believe me I've played enough to see that this is not normal. Now its possible that I went to main menu and reloaded Be a GM before this happened but i'm not sure about that.Very strange. It would be worth double checking the settings. When you are in a Be A GM (or Be A Pro) I'm pretty sure the settings are orphaned off from the main settings, so if you change them within the Be A Pro they only apply there. Maybe that's what is going on? It is worth checking. I wouldn't think that machine being left on for a few hours would be able to cause anything like that.
So with this crazy skating speed I played a game for a while, saw that this ain't right and i simmed the rest of the game. Started next one, same thing. Tried it few times and went to main menu and tried in Play Now, same wicked skating speed there too.
I tried to fix it with sliders from settings in game pause menu, didn't help. Even tried to put default gamestyle Normal and Hardcore, no luck with those. So I went back to Main menu and changed my sliders to something and went back to main menu and re-adjusted my sliders to Gamestyle Normal and saved my profile. Everything was fine after that, back to normal speed.
So i'm guessing that something happens between exiting Be a GM(season?) and going to main menu/play now OR something happens when exiting Be a GM and going back to main menu/play now and reloading Be a GM.
This time I fixed it without exiting NHL13 though, last time I reinstalled the game.Comment

first thx for your smart comment. My point is with online settings, the pace is a bit to high compared to real life. I've done some basic measurements with real videos and by example blue line to blue line skating seems faster on the game. I like the game except maybe two little details. This one and the fact defender are giving up blue line to easily when I'm entering offensive zone.Comment

Re: NHL 13 Tuner 1.04 Available, Details Included
I think game speed comes down to personal preference if I may jump in for a second. I for one love my hockey fast (if you've ever tried my 2k10 sliders, they are all on the fast side). I like to simulate quick reactions and decision making opposed to exact skating times (even though my times were on par with All Star Game fastest skater, it made the on ice super fast).
I find playing at, what people call, "sim" speeds are a little slow. I am happy with default 13 speed but sometimes would like a little kick up. There is nothing like real hockey (you guys that play know) the decision making has to be quick.
Much like watching an MLB game on TV....how slow does a 95 mph fastball look on tv??? Ever stand in on one?
Bottom line is some like fast, some like slower, some like perfectly accurate and there is room for all as I really believe (and have had this discussion many many times) that sim is subjective, how one percieves the sport at hand.Comment

Re: NHL 13 Tuner 1.04 Available, Details Included
Some people want to keep stats in realistic numbers when using for example 12 minute periods. Its pretty difficult task with default or even higher skating speeds. So one cares about how does it look like on the ice and other one looks at stats and then there's people who try to mix them up. Luckily there is sliders, although there should be more IMO.Comment

Re: NHL 13 Tuner 1.04 Available, Details Included
Just tried it now when my game works normally. Played in Play now with default skating sliders(speed 3, acc. 3, attr. eff. 5). Everything ok, nothing close to that speed what i've witnessed for example last night. Then I hit pause and change gamespeed slider to maximum, it felt just like yesterday when my game went crazy.Comment

Re: NHL 13 Tuner 1.04 Available, Details Included
Wasn't trying to make a 'smart' comment if it came off that way. The pace of the default settings are definitely too fast for my liking and I've been playing on game speed 1 with acceleration sliders both at 1 which has been playing well for me in BaGM/BaP. The fact that you can't change them online is what deters me from playing there.first thx for your smart comment. Don't think this forum needs to know hockey's played on ice and not on dirt.

Now this gamespeed bug happened again, wtf? This is 3rd time now and what is amazing that it has happened at same time in middle of the night, after 0200am. Are my players getting energy because there's new day GMT? Finland is GMT +2...Comment
