NEW 2K13 PROJECT TO KEEP THE PHILOSOPHY OF 2K5 ratings

Hi everybody, i'm new here, this is my first post and i want to share with you my idea of new project concerning the players ratings .

first i want to say thank you to all the guys who have done a tremendous job with rosters edition or franchise edition, this is a huge piece of work and i have not the pretention to say i would have done better.

my point here is like all of you we love 2k5 game, and i think what make 2k5 so special was also becuase of this new philosophy of the player ratings completely different than in EA garbage game (i don't now if i am allowed to mention this).

i would love to stick with this ratings philosophy and if other people like that maybe we can try to find a way to edit a new roster keeping this integrity and philosophy.

1/my plan is to analyze the original 2k5 players ratings to find a pattern like silent nature have done for ncaa (http://www.operationsports.com/forum...y-ratings.html)

basically it will consist to determine the category of player we have : superstar , star , above average starter , average starter , below average starter, above average role player backup, average backup and below average back up. or something like that. we can reduce that or expend that i'm open to every proposition here.

2/ once we can identify in 2k5 wich player is in wich category we try to find a rating pattern. for exemple an average starter is rated beetween 70 and 75 (it's an example) and we do that with every category.

3/ in the same category we try to identify the different playing style.
old shool QB or scrambling one for exemple. deep threat wr or slot/possession receiver. pass rusher or run stopper, pass protector or mauler etc... it works for all the position. once again we will able to have a
pattern. it's also here we fing the attribute pattern.

4/ the rookies: let's analyze the rookies in 2k5 to see which 2k13 rookies will match with.

4/ with all of that we can start with the 2k13 players, the actual players.

we start to categorize them like we did for the base 2k5 rosters. we can use the 2011-2012 season as a working base. we can use their past season too to have better understing of their role and impact in NFL.

5/ we try to find matchup beetween 2k5 players and 2k13 players. for exemple a 2k5 ray lewis is a pretty rating reflection of a 2K13 patrick willis. a 2K5 terrel owens is a good rating reflection of a 2k5 lion's megatron. we can do that with all players and all position and we have a pretty good picture of the base rating we can copy from 2k5 to 2k13.

6/ now come the little tweaking . as 2k13 players are not copy of 2k5 players there will be obviously some tweaking to do. here again, no dramatic tweaking, id rather stick to the original 2k5 spirit than having tons of 85/90 OVR players... here again what's important is to stick with the reality and to the role of each players. there will be lot of passionate discussion from fans of particular players but once again the point is to make a BASE roster.

Let me know what do you think about that ?

i apologize if someone have done a similar project before, and i also apologize for my poor english : i'm french. and a die hard ravens fan too ;-)

i've found this wich is a pretty good base for categorizing 2k13 players :

they rate the best 1000 players and they give their respective position rank too. it pretty accurate and realistic...

here is a top 50 ranking of the 2k5 players. pretty good base too to understand the 2k5 ratings and to translate them to our 2k13 ratings

now we have a good picture of the top 25 2k5 players for each position, we need now to find a pattern for these guys in checking what rating did they have on the game...

here is the nba 2k series rating guideline , let's see if we can translate it to the Nfl 2k series , i'm waiting your propositions guys :

                            RATING GUIDE
95-99: Goats (Greatest of All-Time. Not the animal.)
90-94: Superstar (All-NBA First Team mainstays)
                            85-89: Perennial All-Star (All-NBA Second Team)
80-84: All-Star Caliber (possible All-Stars or even All-NBA Third Team)
75-79: Average NBA Starter (or Sixth Man of Year contenders)
70-74: Below Average Starter (or typical 6th/7th men)
                            65-69: Rotation Player (8th-10th men)
60-64: End of Bench (11th-15th men and most D-League callups)
55-59: Should not be in NBA (i.e. training camp invites w/ non-guaranteed deals)
50-54: Hopefully earned their college degree.

Yes I used this somewhat when editing my rosters though his ratings are out there sometimes like calling Sproles the best RB in the league, but still reliable. You should ask Gillbold for permission to use his rosters as a base since you can use his in franchise, and starting from scratch is a daunting task.
