The CPU defense sucks
I dont know why not more ppl are complaining abt it but the cpu is just terrible at defending. its basically no problem to get into the high percentage areas and shot from there. especially with me forechecking the cpu doesnt stand a chance on defense, im easily averaging over 50 shots per game, 10 mins periods. im talking abt high percentage shots here for the most part. right now this is a game breaker. im playing on pro with tweaked hardcore sliders. dont you guys experience the same problem with the cpu defense? if anybody has some suggestions for me how to fix those issues id be very thankful.

Re: The CPU defense sucks
have you tried increasing the CPU adj strategy?
that makes the cpu change their strategy based off what you are doing... IE dump and chase or pressure blue line.
being on pro it probably has the Defense falling back to protect net or anticipating a dump in. -
Re: The CPU defense sucks
I started to have this problem on my GM Connected league but we play on All Star. I would outshoot CPU teams 50-15 pretty regularly. I've started tweaking the sliders here and there and over my last few games, I haven't had more than 38 shots and the CPU is getting over 20 a game now. It's still not where I want it but it's a step in the right direction.
If I were you, I'd just mess around with the sliders and try to find out what plays best for you. Maybe also think about turning up the difficulty. We're thinking about making the jump to Superstar soon so if my sliders don't solve the problem, then that's probably what we'll end up doing.Comment

Re: The CPU defense sucks
The problem with the D in this game is that they don't know to take the new skating engine into account. When I am controlling my team and my slow D is on the ice, I take that into account and sit back against speedier, more agile skaters. I can read the situation and adjust and deal with it. The CPU doesn't handle this very well sometimes. Make enough sharp turns with a better skater and it won't take long to lose them.Go Sabres!Comment

Re: The CPU defense sucks
what slider tweaks did you make? i have acceleration, poke checking and stick lift already set in favour of the cpu. im not laser passing either and my shoot accuracy sliders are also pretty low. but i could raise all those sliders further for the cpu. i havent tested it but is the cpu significantly better at defense on all star and super star?I started to have this problem on my GM Connected league but we play on All Star. Re: The CPU defense sucks
I know the Cpu D is weak, but I don't exploit it because I know I can. I try to be creative on Offense. I go for quality if quantity.Comment

Re: The CPU defense sucks
Dont go messing with the sliders too much. If you are enjoying the feel of the game but are getting no competition from the cpu beware. Upping the challenge can counter the feel of how the game plays. The cpu become more competitive not by playing better D but by gaining elsewhere in gameplay.
Whilst I strongly applaud the devs for this years additions, this version still carries some of the time old issues that have made themselves a home in this series. I say this as much for myself as to anyone because I think nhl 13 is about celebrating what has been included rather than what had been taken out.
Out of curiosity Geister, how many goals are you scoring with an avg of 50 shots on net?We are the music makers...Comment

Re: The CPU defense sucks
This is what I have a hard time doing. I wish I had your ability to do that because this game would be so much more enjoyable. I just hate having to make house rules in order to enjoy a game. It just sucks. It's really sad because it's made me nearly give up on this game. I just feel that the CPU should be dynamic and play differently to force you to switch up how you play. Maybe that's asking too much. I'm sure it's not the easiest thing to program.NHL-Minnesota Wild

Re: The CPU defense sucks
It is easy to just not use a money goal, but this is different. Just skate around and the CPU defense will probably lose you. I don't even know how to not exploit it?
Last year I don't think I had one breakaway, but this year they are really common.Go Sabres!Comment

Re: The CPU defense sucks
what abt silder changes? i was thinking abt raising the cpu hitting power as well as cpu stick lift and poke check. at the same time i could maybe also give an advantage to the cpu when it comes to acceleration since it is struggeling with the skating engine. maybe that could help?
or should i take another approach, im only playing on "pro" right now. so maybe i could change to the next higher level and lower the sliders influencing on the cpu offensive abilities so that im still competitive. but does the cpu actually play much better defense on allstar or superstar?

Re: The CPU defense sucks
Since the new tuner patch, I won 4-0 and 5-0 on All-Star on my Be A GM...though I was going againsts teams with a 1-4 record...I think I am going to play a few games more to see what is up, but I think I may have to go up a level...I don't want to mess with the sliders too much because I want to play online and don't want too loose the feel...I made that mistake last year....only reason I am posting my solo stats is not to brag, just showing that it feels a bit too easy and this is the proof. But I agree with the OP, I get open in the slot way too often cause the CPU D sucks.. But my top line Lupul /Tavares/Kessel are on fire who are all over a point per game.I dont know why not more ppl are complaining abt it but the cpu is just terrible at defending. its basically no problem to get into the high percentage areas and shot from there. especially with me forechecking the cpu doesnt stand a chance on defense, im easily averaging over 50 shots per game, 10 mins periods. im talking abt high percentage shots here for the most part. right now this is a game breaker. im playing on pro with tweaked hardcore sliders. dont you guys experience the same problem with the cpu defense? if anybody has some suggestions for me how to fix those issues id be very thankful.
