PuntNL's NBA 2K13 Minimalism Slider Set

PUNTNL'S NBA 2K13 MINIMALISM SLIDER SET

    Latest update: December 9, 2012 - VERSION 3

NBA 2K13! Once again a new version of my slider set!
As always the goal is to get an enjoyable and realistic game of basketball (with as realisitic as possible stats). As most of you guys, who have followed me the past years know, my theory has always been to make as few adjustments as possible and to try to not hit any sliders into the exteme values (0 and 100). I am trying to take this to the next level this year with even fewer adjustments than previous years (hence the name change).

Sliders are tested (and probably best played) with the official 2K rosters and Real Player %.

    Gameplay
    Difficulty: Pro
Game Style: Custom (start with default as a base for adjusting the sliders mentioned below)
    Game Speed: 50
Quarter Length: 10-12 minutes (depending your style of play)
    Fatigue: On
    Injuries: On
    Clutch factor: On
    Shooting type: Real player %
FT Shooting type: Real player %
    FT difficulty: 50

    Controller Settings
    Automatic shot contest: Intense-D
    Defensive Assist Strength: 100

Select the default gamestyle and than adjust the sliders mentioned below, so everything else remains on 50. If only one value is stated this value applies to both user and cpu, if two values are stated the 1st value is for the user and the 2nd for the cpu. Hence: USER/CPU.

    Offense
    Inside Shot: 44/47
    Close Shot: 44/47
    Mid Range: 48/51 (*)
    3 Pt: 48/51 (*)
    Pass accuracy: 48
    Contact shot: 45

    Defense
    Driving contact shot freq: 80
    Inside contact shot freq: 80
    Help Defense: 60

    Attributes
    On ball defense: 48/54 (*)
    Stealing: 50/52 (*)
    Fatigue rate: 55 (*)
    Offensive rebounding: 52/48 (*)
    Defensive rebounding: 55/50 (*)

    Tendencies
    Take inside shots: 30 (*)
    Take close shots: 30 (*)
    Take mid range: 70 (*)
    Take 3 point: 70 (*)
    Attack the basket: 30 (*)
Look for post players: 70 (*)

    Fouls
    Over the back: 80 (*)
    Charging: 90 (*)
    Blocking: 90 (*)
    Reaching: 75
    Shooting: 90 (*)
    Loose Ball: 80 (*)

(*) = Adjustments since previous version

Okay so version 1 is up. Got some nice games in and think I could get quicker to a final set than in the past years. Difficulty level is an issue and the attacking of the basket by the CPU can be a little bit too much in some games. Last game on pro I had a very easy one with the Clippers vs the Brooklyn Nets. Will post some stats later.

Impressions and feedback are more than welcome!!

      Hi puntNL!

I am following your game sliders since nba2k10 and I have to admit that I have played some amazing realistic games throughout these years!
I have checked today your game sliders for nba2k13 and I will give possibly today or latest tomorrow a try!
My only objection is about the inside and close shot success! Don't you think that it will have a result a bad % in the post (I say that by experience of around 6-8 games that I tried once 45 and then increased them to 47) or is it just bad shooting by my side?
I will revert soon with impressions! Have a great day! (I love Holland, been there more than 12 times!!!)

      Regards,

      Thanosak47 (Greece / Griekenland)

        Thanks man!

Not seeing too many games, but want to use the coming days and weekend to get more games in and finetune certain sliders. Shooting percentages seem to be slightly on the low side on average, but I am also still getting a hang of the new system (using the shot button instead of the shot stick).

Here are the stats of one game I had last night. I was playing as the Clippers, great game and felt very realitstic (CP3 with a double 23 and 10as). Very enjoyable game, but as you can see by the score I was owning the Nets, especially in the second half. Will try some games on All-star over the next days (still playing on pro to get to know the controls and plays).

I actually am a fan too of Punt's work... especially 2K12. Will use it for my CPU vs. CPU VC farming.

Watched my first game and I'd say it's the most natural looking set out there... it also pays to mention that I've used All-Star as opposed to TheTruth's PRO set.

One thing that made me happy is that the FGA is down, even with low FTAs. Foul sliders definitely worth looking into, but all in all had realistic numbers on 12 min per quarter.

What's the league average for blocks and steals?

            Hi PuntNL!

I have played 4 games with your sliders (pro) and I had a variety of results: as Maverick I had a defeat by Bobcats (embarassing!!!), a defeat by Utah, a win against Raptors by 23points and a win as Brooklyn Nets against Timberwolves! Issues: 1. CPU rebounds in offense like crazy!!! I put down slider to 40 for CPU! 2. Low % in 3point shooting in all my games (except against Raptors). Anyway, in general all were enjoyable games!!! Good work PuntNL! I cant upload stats photos till I have 5 posts here, as I am new member!

Re: PuntNL's NBA 2K13 Minimalism Slider Set

I'm definitely a fan of Punt's work ever since last year. You can see my posts, and I agree with the man's vision.

Tweaking too much takes a lot away from the game. I've tried other slider sets and they made the players very tentative to attack and create, which took away the natural basketball feel.

              My issues are as follows:

Rebounding needs a tweak. Decreasing Off and increasing Def Rebounding is a start, but I think there's more to it than that. You can see that the CPU are not boxing out properly, which leads to a lot of Off Rebounding even if the sliders are tilted.

Fouls needs to be addressed as well. I've had two games where the fouls are 15ish each team. (Needs double)

Looking forward to Punt's new version.

Also guys, I urge to rate this thread properly. I voted 5 stars, and someone obviously voted 1 or 2 to pull down the average. Which is quite funny.

Thanks for the feedback guys! Working on them this weekend.. Need a bigger sample for rebounding still. And as far as fouling goes I want to prevent 80% of tem being from shopting fouls.. Hope to update by the end of the weekend!

This is also worth looking into to:

It seems that it's this year again where Pro is the more viable setting... At least when it comes to CPU behavior.

I tried back and forth between sliders abd was generally unhappy. On my four games with Punt's, I did get good results except for the rebounding and free throws. (One game Knicks had 19 Off Rebounds and 15 Free Throw Attempts)

                        Two more games played:

Me Brooklyn against Heat and Magic. First lost by 13points (124-111), second won by big margin (over 20points). A first impression is that apart from the sliders and the game difficulty (pro, allstar etc), the real power of the team in NBA counts..as it is very difficult for Nets to overcome the power of Lebron and win in NBA, the same it is in NBA2K13! It means, they (and I) have to make the perfect game to win! On the other hand Orlando Magic was a very bad team...and I think this will be the case for them when the season starts! Too easy to win them! So, puntNL, I am looking forward to your updated sliders!

                        Regards,

Couldnt agree more. All-star is just not fun to play. Pro plays so much more like real basketball. The only problem I seem to have this year is getting enough of a challenge out of Pro. Still working hard on these, but just not done yet. Will try to put out a new version ASAP.

Just finished another game on Pro, using some differentation in shooting sliders and on ball defense between User and CPU. Not too sure if I can make this work. Had another blow-out W. Gonna try another strategy on All-Star with some differentiation in advantage of the user.. Lets see how that plays out..

How is Pro and All-star working out for you guys in general?
