Anyone feel like Progression is too slow?

I REALLY like the XP system but the cost of improving a player is WAY too high. Well into a CCM the league is still dominated by players from the current roster set and few drafted rookies are in the top 10. The overalls and skills of drafted players stay well behind the top "real" players.

In addition, the bench players are almost impossible to progress, Tom Brady/Tony Romo/Miles Austin/Arian Foster type players that start and immediately are effective are impossible.

Lastly, the CPU needs more XP or better logic as it's players do not progress well either.

I agree it does move too slowly in some positions. WR, HB, QB and OL seem to progress quickly for the user. The OL gets XP points based on Running TD's or Passing TD's depending on the type of player they are. Which I like.

TE goals are tied to the amount of catches. Which I have a hard time hitting those goals.

Defensively the DE, DT, CB are fairly easy to upgrade. They get a good amount of points. But I can't seem to get enough for LB, FS, SS.

Yes the CPU logic is not the best. I think it spreads the points out too much. It should focus on highest special move and AWR to help boost the overall.

I'm in year 2018 and some of my young guys have boosted their OVR to 96. Mostly O linemen, QB, HB, DT, WR, and 1 CB.

So I think for some positions it's working fine. The XP points say my FS, SS should get points based on amount of Passing TD's given up, and amount of yards surrendered, but I don't think I'm getting all of them the way it was designed to.

Things would be much better if backups got a consistent xp each week to simulate study or practice.

And I've always been a proponent of possible attribute explosion or in this case XP jackpots for players that are bad attribute-wise but play well.

I don't think it is slow in relation to old maddens with players that are successful. Upping a starters skills in m13 is quicker than ever if he is successful.

It depends on how you see it, you won't be seeing any players or rookies go up 10 points like the roster updates through out the year but I simulated through 10 years on my ccm and I actually like how the progression is. The development trait really helps your own players and I just have the cpu auto progress my players after that. The cpu players progress just fine in my opinion. I've seen Dareus on the Bills raise all the way from 80 (year 1) to 92 as of now and that was only like 5 years.

I actually thought it was too high. 5 seasons in and im seeing too many drafted players in the high 90's

Re: Anyone feel like Progression is too slow?

I think the xp system is fine the way it is now. I drafted a 69 OVR HB and halfway through his rookie season I got him to a 73 just by putting him in for a few snaps a game.

And each played has a different development trait which determines how much XP they get from goals and playing in general. So if your having a hard time you probably need to raise their development, though it will cost 50k XP per level til you get it to 3. Development is more important in a draft than their overall IMO.

To me, its the weekly goals and season goals that are too high. It's ridiculous that my 3rd string RB needs to score two rushing TD's in a game in order to get a meaningless 500 XP. It's ridiculous that my 4th and 5th string WR's need to get 110 catches in a season, etc. etc.

I agree with most of you, I'd just like to see it tweaked a little. I think the main problem is the lack of subs/bench players progressing. The Star or Quick progression players should still progress without playing time. At least a little.

Re: Anyone feel like Progression is too slow?

I agree with the general consensus here.

If it's a player you are using and racking up stats with, the progression can be quicker than it ever has been in the past.

If it's a bench player that doesn't get much playing time, then they won't progress.

Except I disagree with all of you about this being a problem.

This is the way it should be.
If you want a player to progress, give them playing time. Not complicated.

Unless their is a really good way to simulate bench players progressing during practices I must disagree with you because bench players only getting better with playing time is far from realistic. In the NFL, practice squad players get better and they see NO playing time in real games. If you have a bench player that has a high potential, they should still progress even w/o playing time. They should improve just from team practices.

But then, I have a strong bias against stats based progression systems. And I don't have M13 and I'm just going by things I'm reading on OS. So just take my opinion with a grain of salt.

If I had heard just a couple better things about the patch (like late game CPU AI), I would have the game.

Re: Anyone feel like Progression is too slow?

You can get up to 1400 xp for every player on your team every week. This means backups too. All you have to do is complete the more difficult practices. This is about 30,000 xp including preseason games. That is quite a bit of points for a guy who may never set foot on the field. I'm tired of hearing how you can't progress backups. If you were able to even pick one guy on every team to practice with more this would add way to much progression. For every Tony Romo or Tom Brady there are 5 billions guys who never made it. Just because you think a player is a diamond in the rough type of guy does not mean that he is and this should not happen all the time.

I think too many people are too attached to overall. We finally have the ability to progress the attributes that we want so take advantage of that. Not only do they get xp but we get to pick what they improve in. I love bump and run corners but I only have one. My young corners have been improving steadily on Press and soon i'll be able to let them hit the field and really start earning some xp.
Just stop saying that Madden is garbage and you aren't going to buy it. We all know that you are telling a lie so you can feel better about yourself.

Personally I don't even care about my players overalls.
You can get players in the 60s that are more productive than players in the 80s
I have a WR that has 90 catching 90 catch in traffic and 98 speed and his overall is only like 68, because his awareness is like 20.
I think awareness is a useful skill at times, but this WR leads the league in yds and tds so it's not something I'm going to stress over.
Raise the stats that you care about, don't worry about their overall.
People are complaining that their backups that don't get any playing time and don't put up big stats are not progressing fast enough, really? really?

I agree this should be the way it is for MOST players.

But the game doesn't account for Miles Austin sucking and doing nothing, getting no PT for 3 seasons and then going for over 200 yards and 3 tds in his first game and then lighting it up the rest of the season. According to Madden's system he'd need to play a lot and get regular reps before having the skills to be effective in game.

It'd be nice if there were some (rare) players that have the ability to really bust out. It could be a coach package or something similar where you have the option to give a flat XP boost to a player once in a while, after some milestones. Of course, the CPU needs to be able to do this too.

if you do the offense or defense practice, we're talking 20-24k of practice exp.

personally I think thats plenty for your bench players who arent seeing any PT.

some positions are a bit too slow, try to progress a 3-4 NT in Sim, good luck with that. whereas you make that scheme to run stopper its muuuch easier although the 3-4 is still impossible to go thet ackles needed.

I like the progression when I PLAY the games, my issue is with CPU's control of their progression. the cpu makes no sense to me, chandler jones goes droy, 10 sacks, for ne, stays at a 73, and is repaced by ropati pitotua. that is just stupid, if progression worked right, jones would have gained up above ropati's 76 rating with droy 73 tackles and 10 sacks.
