The reason I ask is I'm quite interested in doing a large-scale classic roster set (For either the 96/97, or 01-02 seasons) and obviously the in game CAP system currently is both very limited and also you can not in game change any pre existing players names.

Potential of a full roster editor
Now besides the obvious tried and true method of just editing players in game, has there ever been any attempt to create some sort of roster editor similar to the one employed by the NBA 2K roster editing community?

Ive thought about this too. I think that it wont happen that a editor is made. -
Re: Potential of a full roster editor
We cannot make an editor because PS3's files are coded. So say there was a folder for Claude Giroux's attributes. This folder might be named C_Giroux_Attributes on the 360, but on the PS3, it might be named F86DD678KD.Now besides the obvious tried and true method of just editing players in game, has there ever been any attempt to create some sort of roster editor similar to the one employed by the NBA 2K roster editing community?

What about for the 360 (as far as an editor)?
That's the console I play on, just as an FYIComment

Somebody email Flying Finn, he's a hockey fan.

If an editor can be created, I might be interested in creating classic teams.Last edited by drj32; 10-26-2012, 04:29 PM.Comment

Re: Potential of a full roster editor
To my understanding ...............The NHL2K roster makers asked the NBA community, but they wanted nothing to do for NHL users.
But I know hex editing works..............
If U know anybody that knows how to use hex editing.........then maybe they can make a roster editorComment

Re: Potential of a full roster editor
Well if Ea was still making the NHL series for the PC we would have these utilities. They have them for NHL 09. You know how wonderful it would be editing rosters on your pc and then just loading them on a flash drive?? As a roster freak myself it would save me many many hours of editing. EA doesn't want this because if you could customize the game you would be less likely to buy the next one......
Anyway i know one was being worked on a few years ago but nothing ever came from it.
We need someone with the skill to get interested in this......Comment

Re: Potential of a full roster editor
This someone should also have a lot of free time.
I'm a software developer myself and I've looked at the save-file. Everything is encrypted and it would take a lot of time to decrypt and transform it into a human-readable format.
I also think that we could maybe only crate a roster-viewer and not an editor because I think you will violate some laws if you really could edit a save-file outside of the PS3. But I don't know for sure.Comment

Well I think this will be easier to accomplish for the xbox. I'm sure most file formats havent changed since 09 which is highly customizable......Comment

Re: Potential of a full roster editor
Alot of time, or more than one person. This is the kind of thing I've wanted to go to school for, but I'm afraid I won't be able to find work after wasting a few thousand first. I've done a little HEXing with WWF No Mercy, but not enought to help though. This someone should also have a lot of free time.
