No matter how fun this game can be and how much they improve the game, this aspect always finds its way into the game. It is the one most incredibly frustrating part about this game. And the reason I don't think it'll ever be fixed is 2k would have to admit that this problem exists which I sure doubt they will. I call time outs, try for easy shots...none of it works. Simple passes are stolen, guys don't hustle at all for the ball. You may as well put the controller down. But it goes both ways...I have beat people that way as well. Everything I do is highlight material and every shot falls. Even when I win like that it's not fun and if my opponent quit I don't even get mad. I'm 34 so I could care less about a record or rankings. I just want to have fun while playing a bball game and don't want to have to worry about these crazy lid on the basket moments. If I get beat, cool...as long as it's not cheap. MAN this makes me ill.

Re: Crazy momentum swing....lid on the basket
Momentum is the best part of the game in my opinion. Stopping momentum is more than just calling timeouts. It's about making adjustments and executing after them.
In real life, every game has momentum, the game would be dead without it.
To gain momentum, there are certain guys on your team that affect momentum more than others. To stop momentum, you want to also use those same guys. On the Pacers, those guys are Granger and George.
If your opponent or CPU does something to send momentum in their favor, the sooner you put a damper on it the better. For example, if a guy hits a big three against you while you are on the road, come down and get a dunk to quiet the crowd or at the very least get a good shot with one of your best players.
Listen carefully to the announcers, they give you clues on what you need to do. The commentary is like a subliminal message that tells you what's happening and how to correct it. Most people tune it out, but it's been put together very nicely.
But in the end, execution on your part kills momentum for the other team and gives it to you. Take your time and be extra patient when the other team does something great to pump up their team. It pays off.
Remember too that momentum is easier for higher rated teams to grab. The Heat can quickly turn momentum over to them while the Bobcats and other lower rated teams have to work hard for everything they get.
It's that way by design and for good reason, that's the way it works in real life.Last edited by Coach2K; 11-16-2012, 07:16 PM.For MyNBA, MyLeague & MyGM content, follow Coach2K on X by clicking here.

However I must admit I find it a little bit exaggerated at times in 2kComment

Re: Crazy momentum swing....lid on the basket
I actually think the momentum swings/comeback logic is probably the best in any recent 2k series. At least comparing allstar difficulty this year to last.
What sliders and settings are you using? On allstar with sliders I can hold double digit leads when I use a strong team, last year allstar was more erratic. If a patch can fix some of the issues I may even bump the difficulty up.Comment

Thats basketball, its always a momentum swing in the real basketball. This game makes it realistic to me. you just have to keep focus to make the easiest basket"Sometimes i sit and piss myself" - Quote Cmebfresh

Re: Crazy momentum swing....lid on the basket
Its 100% overpowered and does in no way mimic real basketball, because of the swing I have shot wide open perfect release 91 rated mid range with curry and missed because the other team had back 2 back dunks. It's not realistic, when the CPU is programmed to have you missed no matter what.
Its cool if they boast the rating of the team on the run i get that, but don't make it where the other team is destined to miss no matter what just as bad as myplayer when you create a turnover the CPU always scores, not realistic at all.Comment

I don't know if its momentum related or not but I can't stand when my guys just start standing around when there is a loose ball.. Even if I'm the one controlling them trying to make them move towards it..
I also really hate how nobody seems to be able to double jump.. You go in and throw up some crap layup and the ball come right back towards you. But for some reason you have that 1 or 2 seconds of after shot r*tardation where you're stuck in an after shot animation and look as of you just received a blow to the face by Muhammad Ali and left stunned.Comment

Re: Crazy momentum swing....lid on the basket
Good for you. I played this game long enough to know patterns with shooting. I made a post on here a while back showing how I shot 10/16 from the 3pt line with Avery Bradley allstar/sim. Every shot was a perfect release but I got the bump because of momentum.
Just like me using blacktop mode to farm VC ray allen, some games he is always going to miss his two wide open shots, perfect release it don't matter. Usually after I hit 3 3pt shots in a row, the 4th 3 is doomed unless I go in for a layup on the next shot which increases my chance of now hitting a few more threes. I know this game and all its patterns.
Curry,my-team,association from day 1, basically I have his shot perfect 100% and because I get leads and the momentum in association I shoot well over 60% from the 3 with him and nearly perfect with his mid-range. And these percentages stand true in my-team when I have the lead, the moment the other teams gets a run, i have miss back 2 back open shots with Curry for no other reason then momentum, the only way you can beat momentum is with dunks and layups.
Believe what you want to believe but I know 2k13 shooting patterns, especially with a player I use in every mode. I have people quit on me in myteam all the time because Curry can't miss when my team gets on a run, I had a few game with him hitting 7 shots in a row. It is good you recognize it.
Guys have to miss shots sometimes and it makes sense that they would be more likely to miss them when the pressure is turned up because the other team is playing well.
If the only factor is whether a shot goes in is if it's release is perfect or not, takes out a slew of other factors that impact the game. For MyNBA, MyLeague & MyGM content, follow Coach2K on X by clicking here.

That I can agree with. But when you say miss no matter what - leaves out the possibility for a better shot being taken and hitting it.

Don't get me wrong it works to my benefit most of the time but If I was programming momentum I would only boost whatever team is on the run but have the other teams attributes stay neutral.Comment

Re: Crazy momentum swing....lid on the basket
Back when NCAA football had momentum implemented you could at least see it. There needs to be a way for it to be tangible. Hiding stuff like that, things that are completely out of the player's control pisses people off and its a very easy fix - let me see the momentum, give me a bar or something.Comment
