Poll: Reach in fouls rate

Hey guys, with the recent patch, they "improved reach-in foul detection when defender continually swipes at the ball, results in more called fouls where appropriate."

We'd like to hear your feedback on this specific issue. Feel free to weigh in with your opinions if they occur too often, or if you like the increase to prevent steal-spamming.

Reaching foul are barley called in the NBA you guys need to seriously stop blasting up the On-Ball steal/ Go For Passing Lanes tendency. I've never seen in a real game a player goes to try to steal every single time you pass it to the man they cover... I know it's off-topic but your apart of the team so I think that should be addressed. But to get On-Topic yes it's called way to much.

It's a bit too much right now, I liked how I could swipe and make the player who has the ball be on his guard and focus on his dribble. Most of the time now, even if I do this once in a whole game, I get the foul immediately.


I know that in 2K12 it worked like this, swipe twice nothing happens, swipe a third time you get the foul. This was also applied to 2K13 but now after the patch it's ridiculous. Not just for me the user, but even for the CPU.

I see CPU players getting fouls constantly (myplayer, so I can't change sliders) which aren't really fouls imho.

I think it's great. Definitely a slap to the face to people who spam steal too much, which isn't the way to play defense at all. I've never fouled out, but many of my friends have while playing me. I don't mind being called for the reach, because I don't reach often (though, I do when I get impatient and thrown off my game.. which punishes me, rightfully so.) I go for the steal when I feel somebody is vulnerable, which is exactly when people should. Hardly am I ever called for a foul.. and if I am, it's acceptable, because if you're going to go for the steal frequently on impulse, you're bound to foul the guy.

It's realistic. Though, it caaaaaan be toned down just ONE bit. Otherwise, I've been very happy with the change, and it's really played out well with my experience with the game. Feels a bit more sim.

The above post is money though. Passing lanes tendency is ridiculous. Just because a very good defensive team (ie. the Memphis Grizzlies) is good at defense, doesn't mean the team should have the ability to jump into the passing lanes 50% of the time. (Maybe 38% or something though lol)

I use to play organized ball and coaching basketball 101 is "Play defense with you feet , Not with your hands". I seriously believe a lot of people that play this game have never played real ball in there lives to even complain about reach in fouls. #Sadness.

For online play this is actually perfect. I don't like to play people who use the Clippers/Celtics or OKC because they keep spamming the steal button using CP3/Rondo/WB and they get away with it. I had people who spammed the steal button 4-7 times and got the ball, it's too annoying.

Online: keep it this way

Offline: downtune it

You should have to pick your spots very carefully to get a rip, these clowns online think you should be able to just swipe away with no consequence.

If the reaches get toned down again, we'll know 2K has lost sight of what has made their franchise great: real basketball.

i don't even bother trying to steal anymore unless i want to foul out/sit on the bench for a few minutes. it feels like (i know it isn't) every single swipe (clean or unclean) is called as a reach in foul. the only steals i actually get are when i'm hounding the passing lanes or a weird block.

i'm not looking for 2k12 ease w/steals but i'd like mycareer to be a little bit easier to get steals. you can't even try to swipe an unsuspecting guard who's just dribbling it out or cause a clumsy center to drop the ball without getting a call.

would i be upset if it wasn't changed? no, game is still fun

I think it wasn't called enough before the patch. Defenders would come up the court behind you and continue to swipe at your dribble with no penalty, Not to mention the abuse Big men take from swipers as soon as the ball hits the paint or on an offensive rebound put-back.

I played people before who would send me to the line 8-10 times in a game while "swiping" the whole time the ball is in play. Playing those people now yielded an avg. of 15-20 foul line trips (8 min quarters), a man in foul trouble, a team in the bonus, and an adjusted defensive style.

Good patch for that problem specifically. Rebounding seems to be tweeked too as I was able to actually garner more defensive boards too.

THANK YOU! Finally somebody gets it! Most reach ins are called fouls. Either that or you get burned. You should only reach in when the opportunity presents itself. With that being said...I like it where it is. Make these lames play defense!

Turn Them UP!

Not enough fouls called, people just run around with Chris Paul, Rondo or Lebron & just reach all day with no fouls called. Make people stay infront & play D, not just reach all day with a player as soon as they walk up the court.

I like it alot especially for online play like someone else mentioned. It is a necessary change because the steal button was used way too much.

I'd make this my quote if it wasn't so long ^^^^^ lol, but yes it's great where its at. Especially online, this will teach people the play D by moving their feet and cutting people off with the proper angles and spacing. Don't change it a bit
