Re: I'm doing an AMA on Reddit
All the signs are there that this is the case at EA, and now we hear it from the horse's mouth, so to speak. Must have been frustrating to be in a situation like that.Big company means lots of people that can make decisions. Like steering a big ship but 10 people all have wheels. I felt honored to be able to help shape the direction of Madden but I never really felt like I was in control.Comment

There are two types of people on OS: Those who disagree with me, and those who agree.
The first kind is wrong. The second is superfluous.

Re: I'm doing an AMA on Reddit
I remember a day when a thread like this would have been 20 pages long. How times change.
Hope your new company is going well Ian.Comment

Re: I'm doing an AMA on Reddit
Well being he did it on Reddit and not on OS, why should this thread be 20 pages long ?Comment

Re: I'm doing an AMA on Reddit
Its not 20 pages long because we already know. It'll be a bunch of "I knew it!" statements. We are just confirming assumptions now. If you go look inside that thread we had going from earlier this year that was like a 1000 pages long, everything we said in there seems to be confirmed despite what one or two GCs were trying to sell us.
It is what it is at this point. If this is still open I'll ask some things when I get home from work.#WashedGamerComment

I didn't think i would ever agree with anything Ian said. I didn't think it was possible for us to have anything in common either..I was wrong. I still think we saw simulation football differently, but now I can simply look at him as a game maker and not someone responsible for replicating NFL grade football.Ian Cummings
What's your least favorite game of all time?
"Ha, well I think we've all played a bunch of terrible games. Madden NFL 06 for X360 may be my least favorite just because it was such a hellacious project to work on and it was such a disappointment to what everyone expected it to be."

Re: I'm doing an AMA on Reddit
The one thing I am curious about is the development of mobile/tablet gaming. Everyone keeps talking about how big a threat this is to console gaming. I agree that it will hurt and I personally think the console gaming industry will not be able to support 3 consoles in the future. I think one of Sony and MS will be gone and if Nintendo's hardware struggles they may get out of the console business and just publish software. I do believe there will always be a strong place for at least one console in the market.
However, I have a close friend who works at a software company which opened a small game division as well. They have created a couple Indie games on the PS3 and 360 along with some mobile games. He said there isn't a lot of money to be made there. If it weren't for government grants they wouldn't have bothered to open the division. He also said unless you are in the Top 10 list on mobile gaming you don't make any money. As cut throat as analysts are about profits on consoles I have to think the overall profit being made when you factor all the mobile games out there has to be very low. For every Angry Bird mega success there are a hundred games that won't make any money at all and probably lose money.Last edited by rudyjuly2; 12-03-2012, 08:12 AM.Comment

Re: I'm doing an AMA on Reddit
whats the point though ? is he so far removed he thinks/ feels the need to talk freely about it ?
Mr. Dembroski is kind of bashing as well. Corprations worry about bottom line. Nothing wrong with that, thats just how it go's . Toy company, department store, its all the same.
was he laid off or he had another job lined up and just left ? Why burn a bridge ? I hope the guys personal life works out well, but this is another example of giving too much importance to something that is simply nothing more than a toy and a toy company.Comment
