The Eagles declined that offer in favor of an offer that gave them future draft picks (and one where they didn't have to absorb Haynesworth's $100 million/7 year contract).
So why bring it up? Who cares about trades that didn't happen?

Also, several teams were falling all over themselves to pay him some amount of money. The best contact offer and situation for Manning was clearly in Denver. No one else could have matched the offer Denver gave him so saying that other teams would have given Manning the same contract is goofy.
Or course other teams could have. There were several teams with as much or even more cap room then Denver (http://blogs.sun-sentinel.com/sports...12-season.html) including Tennessee and San Francisco, both of whom were major players.

Remember, teams weren't dropping out of the bidding because he was too expensive. Manning went to Denver because he chose Denver. Tennessee, San Fran, Miami, Seattle, and Arizona were all chasing him, and they all knew what they were getting into. You think all of those teams expected Peyton Manning to play for $5 million a year and would have been SHOCKED to learn that he thought he was worth nearly 20?

Also, the way the contract is structured is critical. The $22 million dollar guaranteed second year would throw every team in the NFL over the salary cap (outside of Denver).
Except it wouldn't, as I showed you with the link. Besides, had any of those other teams signed Manning, they would have made their other roster moves accordingly to clear up that cap space. Also note that his second year only activates if his neck passes a physical (http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci...ars-96-million).

There's so much here you're not considering. Signing a free agent is an entirely different game than trading for a player signed to a massive contract.
What you're not considering is that Manning is a Top 5 QB of all time who is playing lights out football. He makes any team into a playoff contender instantly because he covers for so many weaknesses. If you think a team like Tennessee would pass on him so they can give that money to Kamerion Wimbley, then what are YOU thinking? Teams would fall all over themselves to give Manning that money (As they did). If he was on the trade block, he'd easily fetch a McNabb deal and probably more.
