Bowe and Arrowhead - Kansas City Chiefs Dynasty (M12)

Pioli, Crennel Out As Chiefs Overhaul Underacheiving Team

The Kansas City Chiefs announced today that General Manager Scott Pioli and Head Coach Romeo Crennel will be relieved of their duties, effective immediately. One person was hired to replace both men, as Ryan Thomas was named the new GM and Head Coach of the franchise.

"It is an honour to accept this position today," said Thomas at his news conference. "This team has a long and storied history. Fans here are hungry for a Superbowl, something they haven't seen since 1970. Today marks the beginning of what we feel is the blueprint to bring this franchise back into Superbowl contention. I have a plan, some decisions may be hard to accept, some may not. But all decisions will be made with the ultimate goal of winning the Lombardi Trophy in mind."

When asked if he had any plans for roster changes, particularly in the area of Quarterback, Thomas replied "I will look at all positions on the team. I feel there are some very good players here, and with some tweaking, this team will be good very soon. I am not going to discuss particulars with regards to positions and/or players at the moment."

Thomas went on the say the team will continue running a base 3-4 defense and that no free agents will be brought in at the moment. He wants to evaluate the current roster first. He is excited to get the new season started.

Chris Kelsay swats down a Matt Cassel pass

CHIEFS START SEASON WITH UGLY LOSS

The Kansas City Chiefs defense held the Buffalo offense out of the endzone and still lost as Stephon Gilmore returned a Matt Cassel interception back 31 yards and Rian Lindell added a pair of field goals as Buffalo defeated the Chiefs 13-7 in Ryan Thomas' coaching debut. Both teams looked like they needed another week of preseason action to work out the kinks as this was an ugly, boring affair.

Jamaal Charles opened the scoring right before halftime with a 1 yard plunge. Charles had only 15 yards on the ground in the first half, but took advantage of a tiring Bills defense in the second half and finished with 90 yards on 19 carries with the score.

In the third quarter, Lindell hit his first of two field goals to make it a 7-3 game. On the first play of the next drive, Gilmore stepped in front of Chiefs receiver Steve Breaston and picked off the pass and returned it 31 yards for pay dirt, giving the Bills a 10-7 lead heading into the fourth quarter. Lindell would add his second field goal at the 6:22 mark to make it 13-7, and the Chiefs offense couldn't manage to get down the field to even the score.

Cassel finished the game hitting 50% of his passes and threw two costly interceptions - one by Jairus Byrd in the endzone, and the other by Gilmore for the pick 6.

Kansas City (0-1) now travels to Detroit to face the Lions (1-0).

CHIEFS LOSE MOEAKI AND LILJA TO INJURY

The Kansas City Chiefs lost Tight End Tony Moeaki and Center Ryan Lilja during their 13-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills in Week 1.

Moeaki, who is suffering from a Meniscus Tear, is expected to miss 2 weeks of action. Kevin Boss will be the starting Tight End in his absense. Martin Rucker will now be the #2 Tight End.

Lilja has a partially torn ACL and is expected to miss 3 weeks. Jake O'Connell will fill in for Lilja while he recovers.

No, it was actually the NFL roster one, I just made some changes to it.

Matthew Stafford destroys Kansas City's defense

                CHIEFS EMBARRASSED 49-7 BY LIONS

Matthew Stafford sliced through the Kansas City defense like a skilled surgeon on Sunday, completing 18 of his 25 passes for 389 yards and 4 touchdowns, as the Detroit Lions romped the Chiefs 49-7.

Stafford took advantage of Nate Burleson's matchup with Javier Arenas, as Burleson made all 3 of his catches count, racking up 150 yards and scoring on all three. Calvin Johnson also caught a touchdown pass. The Lions also got it done on the ground as Jahvid Best rushed for 94 yards and added two more scores for Detroit.

Kevin Smith opened the scoring with a 6 yard run with 4:56 remaining in the opening quarter. Matt Cassel hit Dwayne Bowe for a 55 yard touchdown on the next drive to even the score and it looked like the Chiefs would be able to go toe-to-toe with the Lions. That was until Stafford hit Burleson with his own 55 yard strike on the ensuing drive to give the Lions a 14-7 lead after one quarter.

Stafford and Burleson would again team up for a long touchdown early in the second quarter, this time going 82 yards to make it 21-7. The Lions blew the game wide open in the final minute of the 1st half, withi Stafford finding Calvin Johnson from 1 yard out to make it 28-7 with 44 seconds left. Cassel would then get picked off by DeAndre Levy deep in their own territory and return it to the 2 yard line where Jahvid Best punched it in, making it 35-7 at the half.

Burleson hauled in this third score of the day in the third quarter, grabbing a 13 yard pass to make it 42-7. Jahvid Best ran in his second touchdown of the day with 4:31 remaining in the game to cap off the scoring and giving the Lions the lopsided victory.

"Wow. In my years of football I have never seen such domination," said Ryan Thomas. "They were scoring at will out there tonight. We have to go back to the drawing board and figure some stuff out."

                Indeed.

Cassel threw another two interceptions for the Chiefs. He now has thrown four in the first two games of the season.

A week after losing Tight End Tony Moeaki and Center Ryan Lilja to injury, the news got even worse for the Chiefs during this game as Linebacker Tambi Hali broke some ribs and will miss the next three weeks of action. Bryan Kehl or Andy Studebaker are expected to start in his place.

Jarret Johnson had a monster game against the Chiefs

CHIEFS FALL TO 0-3 WITH LOSS TO CHARGERS

The San Diego Chargers beat the Kansas City Chiefs 23-13 to send the Chiefs to an 0-3 start to the season.

Philip Rivers was 23 of 37 for 290 yards and a pair of touchdowns for the Chargers. Rivers hit both Malcom Floyd and Robert Meachem for touchdowns. Chiefs quarterback Matt Cassel was 2 of 4 for 22 yard before leaving with an injury in the first quarter. He was replaced by Brady Quinn who finished the game 18 or 32 for 257 yards with one touchdown and one interception. Cassel will return for next weeks game against Minnesota.

Jarret Johnson had a big day for the Chargers on defense. Johnson finished the game with 8 tackles, 1 sack, 1 interception and a forced fumble.

The game was a hard fought affair with the teams exchanging field goals in the first half until Quinn found Dwayne Bowe for a 7 yard score to make it 13-6 for the Chiefs at halftime. Rivers would then find Floyd for a 7 yard strike of his own in the third quarter to tie the game heading into the fourth. Nick Novak gave the Chargers thier first lead of the game early in the fourth with a 19 yard field goal after the Chiefs made a huge goal line stand. Rivers then found Meachem from five yards out with 3:48 remaining to give the Chargers a 10 point cushion and the victory.

Kansas City got more bad news on the injury front as offensive tackle Branden Albert was lost for 11 weeks with a dislocated hip. The Chiefs signed Nick Kazcur to a one year deal worth $620,000 after learning of the injury.

BRADY QUINN LEADS CHIEFS TO COME FROM BEHIND WIN

Brady Quinn came off the bench to replace an ineffective Matt Cassel and promptly led the Kansas City Chiefs back from a 21-3 deficit by throwing for 4 touchdown passes, giving the Chiefs their first win of the season - a thrilling 34-31 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Ryan Succop kicked the winning field goal with only 5 seconds left in the fourth quarter.

Christian Ponder staked the Vikings to the 21-3 lead with a pair of touchdown passes, one to Adrian Peterson and one to Michael Jenkins. Ponder also ran one in himself from 5 yards out. After throwing two interceptions in only 10 passing attempts, Cassel was replaced by Quinn who engineered the comeback. Down by 18, Quinn hit Jonathan Baldwin for his first of two touchdown catches - a 22 yard strike with just 9 seconds left before halftime to make it 21-10.

The Vikings started the third quarter strong as Ponder threw his third TD of the day, an 80 yard bomb to Percy Harvin to make it 28-10 Minnesota. Ponder finished the day going 12 of 19 for 236 yards, throwing 3 TD's and rushing for another. He was picked off once.

The quick touchdown to Harvin failed to deter the Chiefs as Quinn threw a touchdown pass on the next drive, a 10 yarder to tight end Tony Moeaki to get the Chiefs back to within 11. Ryan Longwell kicked a 48 yard field goal to make it 31-17 before Quinn found a wide open Steve Breaston for a 59 yard touchdown to make it 31-24 heading into the fourth quarter.

The score would remain the same until the final minute of the game when Quinn and Baldwin hooked up again for a 16 yard touchdown to tie the game at 31. Minnesota then took over trying to get down the field to win the game until Eric Berry picked off Ponder and returned it to the Vikings 10 yard line. Ryan Succop came out and kicked the 27 yard chip shot to win the game for the Chiefs.
