    SAM, MIKE, and WILL?

Can someone tell me why Madden uses the ROLB, MLB, and LOLB instead of the actual positions? I wish the weak side/strong side linebackers can lineup where they're supposed to. Is there a possibility that one day Madden will use these positions instead?

Naming the position by side rather than role makes it more compatible with every playbook. I'm surprised MLB isn't called ILB to accomodate the 3-4.

      Or make a "Jack" spot.

      Sam/LOLB, Mike/MLB, Jack, Will/ROLB.

That way, you wouldn't just be confined to using MLB #2.

They made a 3rd HB spot. And a Long Snapper (which does...what exactly?) spot, so...why not a Jack spot?

The names of the plays themselves use these terms (Mike Blitz, for example)...

Because not all teams align their LB's that way.

3RB is 3rd down running back, typically someone who can block or catch passes to pick up the 1st down.

Anyone else hate how there isn't just a separate tab for special teams players that you can put anyone on?

So dumb that it operates based on specific spots for other positions in the depth chart.

Oh I know what the 3rd down back does.

I was talking about Long Snapper. What impact does that have on the team (in Madden...irl I know that's important for obvious reasons...ones that don't exist in Madden)?

Back in the good Ole Ps2 days you could set a Spteams depth chart. I think even in the PS1 days you could. Madden sometimes makes me

I think they just hate special teams.

Used to have separate special teams sliders - like you said:

While we're talking about the jacked up depth chart I'd also like to see them add Flanker, Split End, and Slot for WRs.

While I understand that you find the LOLB/MLB/ROLB naming a bit odd, I have to say that it makes it easier to understand. Especially when you are not from the US, it is hard to figure out what Sam, Mike, Will or Jack means.

That being said, I agree that the whole depth chart needs an overhaul. Wouldn't hurt to make your own Wild Cat formation, or name the Slot receiver, etc.

                          Re: SAM, MIKE, and WILL?

The more accurate depth charts the better.

Offensive depth charts only need a few adjustments. Add dedicated X, Y and Z receivers and I'd be pleased.

Special teams need proper long snappers and a special teams depth chart.

On defense, I want the scheme to determine the depth chart e.g. whether you run a 3-4, 4-3 or hybrid scheme with an emphasis on strongside and weakside players.

For Linemen I'd like to have:
                          • Strongside DE, Nose Tackle (strongside DT), Under Tackle (weakside DT), Weakside DE for 4-3 teams
                          • Strongside DE, Nose Tackle, Weakside DE for 3-4 teams

For Linebackers I'd like to have:
                          • SAM, MIKE, WILL for 4-3 teams
                          • SAM, TED, MIKE, WILL position for regular 3-4 teams
                          • SAM, MIKE, WILL, JACK positions for those hybrid DE/OLB blitzing teams

These changes are all fine and dandy. But we still have the problem of not being able to move around player positions as we should. Just on espn mock draft the other day they were speculating about a team drafting an OT moving him from LT in college to RT at pros and moving current RT at NFL level to his natural RG position. Try and take care of that in madden.

Just this season Devon McCourty changed from CB to Safety mid-season. The pats had him play S last year as well due to injuries. Madden made the positional change through one of the roster updates. It is unclear why they do not want to give us this option.

However, the changes must be kept to similar positions only. I remember years back you could change your superstars to kicker, sign them to a contract for pennies, and then change them back to their original position. We definitely don't want that.
