The Avengers | Los Angeles Lakers 2K13 Association

Is it dynasty or disaster? Stay tuned to find out...

Welcome fellow OS members, thank you for stopping by and taking a peak and following my official NBA 2K13 Los Angeles Lakers 30 team user controlled Association thread. This will be my official thread for the season. Just a quick overview, I am hoping to go 5-6 years deep into this association hopefully getting to the point where we see Kobe Bryant win that 6th championship ring and at what point does he retire as well as finding out if Dwight Howard re-signs in the off season and if Pau Gasol remains on the roster or if he is traded by the February deadline. Most importantly how will the Lakers respond to the hiring of their new head coach, Mike D'Antoni just days before the 2012-13 season gets underway. Following the first time in franchise history that the Lakers did not win a pre season game the team relieved then head coach Mike Brown of his duties the following day, just a mere three days before the season officially gets underway.

Throughout this thread you will see detailed practice and post game reports of all Lakers games as well as a quick glance at the other games on the schedule. There will be a complete breakdown of the standings once a week including NBA power rankings being released every Sunday. NBA player of the week awards will be announced on Sundays for games played the previous week and player and rookie of the months will be announced the first Sunday of the new month. Detailed boxscore reports of all Lakers games will include the +/- of all players. There will be monthly statistical reports for the Lakers and also weekly updates who league leaders in statistics and advance statistics such as PER.

So I hope you enjoy reading and following, it looks to be an exciting year and heres to hoping that the Black Mamba and Superman can bring the gold back to where it belongs.

For this season the Lakers with their superior starting lineup have been called.....

Opening night for the 2012-13 NBA season with the Los Angeles Lakers hosting the Dallas Mavericks in a matchup of the last two Western Conference teams to win the NBA Championship. Both teams made significant moves over the offseason. The Mavericks brought in veterans Elton Brand, Chris Kaman as well as some young athletic players O.J. Mayo, Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones. The Lakers meanwhile made the two biggest headlines of the summer acquiring two time MVP point guard Steve Nash and three time Defensive Player of the Year Dwight Howard in trades. They also brought in veteran Antawn Jamison and sharpshooter Jodie Meeks in free agency. Tonight also marks the debut of new Lakers head coach Mike D'Antoni who was hired two days ago following the firing of Mike Brown after an 0-8 preseason..

                  Lakers 104, Mavericks 101

Lakers hot night of offense takes a backseat to defensive stops
In the final minutes Lakers defense holds firm to secure win

LOS ANGELES, As the lights turned off and the STAPLES Center court was on display for the opening night introductions the one could feel the excitement all through the arena with the debut of Steve Nash and Dwight Howard in their first regular season game as a member of the Lakers not to mention the head coaching debut of Mike D'Antoni who was named over the weekend following the shocking events leading to Mike Brown being relieved of his duties. It didn't take long for the Lakers to feel right at home and it didn't take very long before Steve Nash had the ball in his hands and was racing up court throwing a lob to Pau Gasol which got the sold out crowd even louder. It was the Lakers new offensive scheme under D'Antoni that was allowing them to pass up good shots in order to get great shots which in all led them to shoot a remarkable 56% from the field during the game. Led by Kobe Bryant, the Lakers were able to hold off a very tough and crafty Mavericks squad in a 104-101 victory on opening night. Bryant led all scorers with a game high 30 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Pau Gasol was award player of the game honors while finishing with a double double with 24 points and grabbing 13 rebounds, hitting 11-17 shots from the floor. Despite being plagued by foul trouble in the first half Dwight Howard finished with 13 points and 9 rebounds while only playing a mere 24 minutes. Steve Nash hit a timely three point shot to start the fourth quarter and give the Lakers the lead for good and finished with 9 points and 9 assists for the game. The Mavericks were trailing 94-84 when things started to get heat up for them, fighting their way back to take the lead in the final minute before Gasol's two free throws put the Lakers ahead for good. The Mavs though got a great performance from O.J. Mayo who finished with 27 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists, but had a dreadful shooting night from the field hitting only 9-24 shots and 6-17 from the three point line. Dirk Nowitzki who had been bothered by a lower back injury did his best out there and wound up with 12 points and 5 rebounds while Shawn Marion rounded up the players who scored in double figures with 10 points and 6 rebounds for the game. The Lakers trailed 27-22 after the first quarter, but quickly turned that around thanks to Kobe Bryant's scoring in the second quarter, the Lakers didn't surrender the lead until the Mavericks scored with the thirty nine seconds left in the game at 101-100. Both Gasol and Bryant hit four straight free throws in the final seconds to pull out the win for the Lakers. The Lakers will now jump on a plane for a trip up to the great white north to take on the Portland Trail Blazers tomorrow night.

After an impressive win last night over the Mavericks to open up the season the Lakers travel up north to play the Portland Trail Blazers, in their season and home opener. The Trail Blazers, following last seasons cleaning house were able to draft point guard Damian Lillard with the 6th pick and he is a possible Rookie of the Year candidate. The Trail Blazers also replaced their interim head coach, Kaleb Canales, hiring former Atlanta Hawks and Milwaukee Bucks head coach, Terry Stotts. Lakers 104, Trail Blazers 90

Lakers cruise through victory in a non familiar place
Howard puts up 24, Nash hands out 14 assists in victory

PORTLAND, It's not the easiest or friendliest place for the Los Angeles Lakers, but on Halloween this year the Lakers trick or treated their way through the game and came out with a 104-90 victory over the Portland Trail Blazers spoiling the home debut of Blazers first round pick Damian Lillard. Kobe Bryant led all scorers with a game high 28 points along with 7 rebounds and 4 assists and Dwight Howard bounced back after his lackluster performance on opening night with 24 points and 9 rebounds while hitting an impressive 11-13 shots from the field. Steve Nash dished out a season high 14 assists and Jodie Meeks off the bench put in 10 points and 7 rebounds as the Lakers (2-0) won their first road game of the year. Nicolas Batum led the Blazers with 25 points, but it was first round pick, point guard Damian Lillard that people tuned in to see finishing with 15 points and handing out 14 assists in a losing effort. The Lakers went into the fourth quarter leading 78-70 and quickly extended the lead by as many as 16 in the final quarters opening minutes. The Lakers will return home where they will take on their STAPLES Center occupants, the Los Angeles Clippers in a must see matchup of two teams that are expected to make deep playoff runs this year.
