    Black Monday 2012/Coach Carousel

Not sure if this belongs in football off-topic or if it should be its own thread, but I'm gonna try this route because yay new threads.

"Black Monday", as we all know, is the dreaded day at the end of the season where unsuccessful NFL coaches are relieved of their duties. Some coaches' fates appear to be sealed - Andy Reid, Romeo Crennel, and Norv Turner, to name three - while there are a few others who could see their terms come to a surprising premature end - examples include Mike Mularkey, Chan Gailey, Ron Rivera, or even Ken Whisenhunt, Jim Schwartz, Rex Ryan, or Jason Garrett.

Who do you think survives to next season? Who gets the axe?

I think the only way Jason Garrett gets the axe is if a) we get blown out Sunday and b) Jerry has had not-exactly-legal discussions with Sean Payton.

That said, I think Garrett's job is safe. I don't think Whisenhunt will get the boot either.

Chan's job seems safe unless somebody higher up threatens Mr. Nix to fire him or else. I'm still torn as to whether or not I like the idea of Chan staying.

I personally feel like teams should hold to their contracts, and that contracts should be shorter.

Pat Shurmur is dead meat. He'd already likely be losing his job because of poor coaching on a decently talented team, but with ownership and regime change, he is totally toast.

Well in fairness, if I recall correctly there were reports Wade Phillips was safe up until the moment Jerry fired him.

Garrett is safe IF the Cowboys look decent on Sunday. If they get killed then I can see him losing his job and Jerruh trying to grab Sean Payton who he should've hired years ago IMO.

It looks like Chan Gailey may be safe in Buffalo unless the scene is really ugly and the Bills lose in blowout fashion with the fans making their voices heard. I don't know how I feel about keeping Chan around. i think i'd be okay with it if he just gives up playcalling duties and actually gives CJ Spiller a chance to be an every down back without the whole "oh he gets tired after a big run" crap.

I can see Mike Mularkey getting shown the door especially if Tebow goes to JAX. I have a feeling ownership there may try and grab a college coach who runs the read option and thus create a shotgun marriage between said coach and Tebow.

The only way he stays is if the GM stays. They will be a package deal because no new GM likes to keep the current coach and I don't see the Jags firing only him and leaving Smith.

Didn't Jay Glazer say last Sunday that Garrett was safe?

I actually think he'll get another year, regardless of what happens on Sunday and that the team's performance in the 2nd half of the season essentially saved him for 1 more year.

I'm not sure what to think about Rivera. He seems to be over his head at times being a head coach, but it is his first head coaching gig and he's only gotten 2 years. I think giving him another year and seeing what happens next year is fair. The improvement in the 2nd half of the season each of the last 2 years gives me hope that him and his staff can figure out how to get off to a good start and put together a playoff bid.

Yeah and Glazer usually has a pretty good track record when it comes to accuracy.

I think all of the following guys should get canned:

                            1- Chan Gailey
                            2- Mike Mularkey
                            3- Andy Reid
                            4- Rex Ryan
                            5- Pat Shurmur
                            6- Jim Schwartz
                            7- Norv Turner
                            8- Ken Wisenhunt

This has the potential to be the largest head coaching turnover we have ever seen.

Only ones I would give another year to is Schwartz and Wisenhunt. Schwartz because he did lead them to their first playoff game in a long while last year. And Wisenhunt because his first few seasons were real good until he lost Warner. And now they have total garbage at QB.
