Up in the air on purchase

    Hi Guys

I have a question for the guys that have madden 12 and madden 13. This year was the first year that I never picked up madden ( money was tight, didn't have that strong madden urge this year) Anways now that the price has been lowered I'm contemplating picking it up. In your opinions would I be best served at this point getting it or just continuing with M12 and waiting until August for the new game? Any opinions would be great

    Thanks

What features do you like to use on Madden? Online, Franchise, Superstar?

short answer: not worth the $$.

it depends on how you play madden but I think your better off sticking with 12.

had gift cards so i traded in m12 for m13. m13 cost me a total of $5 plus tax. played m13 for a while, got through a season, then restarted due to updates for fixes. played a season and really started to hate how the ai would resign or not resign players, not know who retired, etc....

ended up trading m13 in and bought back m12 and made $5 on the switch. so it cost me pretty much nothing to get m13 and i ended up hating it after a while.

went back to 12 since i love controlling 32 teams and can set up "MY NFL" the way i want it. if you are just looking to play and stuff like that maybe buy 13, but if you like to control and run teams your way, stay with 12

I prefer 13. I like the feel of the gameplay better, but it's a personal preference. You can always try renting M13 or even if you buy it and don't like it, most stores offer a return policy.

Thanks for the help guys. I only really play offline franchise.

I was wondering also how many of you guys keep playing madden throughout the year? I can really only get into football during the football season, actually I'm like that for most sports games. Do you find you can enjoy a football game from Feb-July?

Absolutely. When there's no football on, it helps a bit. But it does make me miss the regular season.

Adding to your post, the CCM in 13 is a neat change to franchise mode. Personally, I love being able to have Joe Gibbs as my HC. Now that it has been updated, it's worth it IMO.

Don't bother. Madden 13 is abysmal. The CCM mode is a cheap substitute for Franchise mode. They took out the franchise fantasy draft from offline mode, you see if a trade is accepted or not you have to exit the trade screen altogether, there's no accurate indication in the trade screen if the team is actually interested in your trade, no editing player positions, the animations look horrible (gang tackles look like a bunch of guys having epileptic seizures), there is no half-time anything to speak of, in fact there is no presentation to speak of.

It's clear that EA is just phoning it in at this point because they can. They figure since they have exclusivity to the NFL license, they don't even have to try anymore.

Still holding on to Madden 11, the last half-way decent Madden game released. Everything after that has been just horrible.

Thanks for the tip on M13.

I agree with you, when that sport isn't on playing the video game makes me miss the season ( Whatever sport it is ) even more

Most of what this guy said isn't worth paying attention to. If you want to do a fantasy draft, make a private online franchise with a password. In fact, I'm not sure why anyone would play offline unless they don't have internet because of the features available online such as fantasy draft, online management, and auto-save. Also, you can edit player positions, and you have been able to since a patch over a month ago. The only thing is the lack of presentation which, personally, I don't care about. However, I could see others caring if presentation is important to them.

In fact, most of the posts in this thread simply aren't representative of the general consensus and simply grumpy people venting because there's no ESPN NFL 2k13. As far as Maddens go, this one is easily the best since '05 or maybe '07 in my opinion. The game play is miles better, the infinity engine is pretty cool, I love the ball-hawk button, all in all the game play is a tremendous upgrade from Madden 12. I'd suggest you try it out at a friends house or play the demo (probably doesn't have patched and tuned game play) and make your decision from there.

Not having an offline fantasy franchise is stupid, especially considering every game before it had it. It's not something they needed to add, just something they should have never removed. If someone buys the game used, they can't play online franchise, if they don't have an XBL account they can't play online franchise. It's a stupid decision along with every other stupid decision EA made when making this game. The animations look cartoonish and downright comical. This does not in any way resemble a simulation of NFL football.

If you think those gripes are minor, then congratulations, you are just the kind of sheep EA loves because you are okay with the garbage they are producing. I am not. The game has gotten progressively worst in ever facet since Madden 11, and 9 years later it still can't compete with ESPN NFL 2k5. That is lazy and sad. As an NFL fan, I am disgusted.

Yes, it's stupid. It was definitely a misstep by EA. However, I'd venture to say 99.9% of the people on these forums, including OP, have the ability to play an online franchise. Other than the cartoonish animations, name another stupid decision EA made with this year's Madden. If you stop and think about it, each tackle in football is so complex with so many factors that there simply isn't a way to do it without it looking cartoonish. You either get semi-realistic animations, or an unrealistic physics engine (a la Backbreaker), or, in this case, a compromise between the two. I still have no clue why EA thought it would be smart to make players trip and fall over each other after plays, though.

However, if you think that 2k5 doesn't get thoroughly beaten by M13 in most aspects, then I am most definitely not the sheep, but rather you are one. It's sad that it took EA 7-8 years to make a Madden that clearly surpassed 2k5, but they finally did, and it's sort of obvious. By saying it's gotten worse since Madden 11, you've completely destroyed the modicum of credibility your post had. That's a comical statement, and one that isn't even possible to support.
