Re: MLB The Show Franchise?
Well for one, they moved the Astros to the AL West and allowed interleague play to take place all year. They also said they changed the way scouting works and probably add the new CBA rules about drafting and contracts. They also took out the old changing ticket prices, vendors, adding seats, and loans gimmick. That's about all we know so far.Last edited by sydrogerdavid; 01-09-2013, 09:23 PM. -
Re: MLB The Show Franchise?
Keep the expectations very very low for RTTS and franchise.
They're going spend their resources on stuff like fans getting to choose the cover athlete. This "cool" type of thing is what helps to draw interest and sell games which is ultimately what matters.
People tend to forget, the hardcore players that are on this board make up a very small percentage of total people that play the Show. It's more important for them to pump money into advertising gimmicks then it is for them to focus on things like trade logic, FA signings, etc. We've been promised for years that these things would be addressed, but there are glaring issues every year that go untouched.
With that said, the game is fun and still an enjoyable play. It's not type of game I thought I'd be playing in the year 2013 when I thought about how awesome the future of gaming would be 10 years ago, but that's life.Comment

You do realize our marketing team and marketing plan has absolutely zero to do with our developmental focus and what we choose to spend our resources on right?Keep the expectations very very low for RTTS and franchise.

Franchise and RTTS received a very large portion of the resources this year.Comment

I never thought it was a gimmick-I enjoyed the running a franchise part of the game. I do hope in time we'll get something similar. It can be as much fun to run a franchise as to play in one.Well for one, they moved the Astros to the AL West and allowed interleague play to take place all year. They also said they changed the way scouting works and probably add the new CBA rules about drafting and contracts. Re: MLB The Show Franchise?
From speaking with Aaron....we may see some things that were previously in franchise mode(GM goals....some aspects of front office dealings(adverts......equip.....media...etc)) back in....but they didn't feel like the current aspects were up to snuff any longer and quite frankly...they needed the room for the revamping of other franchise aspects.
So all is not lost.

Re: MLB The Show Franchise?
I think your taking my comments a bit out of context here and turning them into a personal shot at the quality of work you've done. To reply directly to what you said, yes, I think BUS101 taught us that R&D and marketing are two separate departments within an organization. Each organization however has their own approach to allocating resources to each specific department. What I'm saying is that over the past five plus years, it appears that many games have begun to pump money into marketing and neglect R&D. They're finding fancier ways of advertising the same mediocre games.
In my opinion, this is a glaring trend in sport games recently. NBA 2K probably spent insane amounts on Jay Z while Madden was tossing big bucks at Rice and Sanders to sit with the games glued to their laps on Sportscenter.
For all I know, this could be a very specious argument that I'm making as I truly have nothing to back up what I say besides my perception of the sport gaming industry for the past few years. All I'm saying is I'd rather the powers that be allocate more resources for your developmental needs then spend insane amounts on things I find superfluous. Give your department more guys to simulate scenarios, detect issues, and correct issues. I personally don't want something revolutionary. I'd just like what's currently there to be refined. Unfortunately, clean and simple doesn't sell. If this year's game biggest improvement was fixing all odd irregularities in RTTS and franchise, us hardcores would love it, but the marketing team would have a tough time selling it.
I'm just being realistic. I understand this is a business. The goal is to make money. If marketing is what does it these days, then run with it. As an old school fan though, it pains me that my love for gaming has severely diminished over the past few years because of these new trends.Comment

Re: MLB The Show Franchise?
I remember having GM goals in MVP Baseball and it was a feature that I really liked and hoped to be in The Show. Glad to hear we'll have something similar to look forward to this year.

I'd love to be able to be fired if I don't meet certain goals etc.
Of course have a firing 'off' option too for those that don't like such things.Comment

Re: MLB The Show Franchise?
I'm fine with a basic franchise mode as long as it has the wild card playoff update (unlike last year)Comment
