How do you stop the TE?

How do you stop the TE?

I typically run a 2 man under. If I'm in the 3-4, I'll have the MLB in a shallow zone, if I'm in the 4-3 I'll keep my MLB in man unless he's covering the FB, then I'll put him in a deeper zone.

So far my solution for stopping the TE is to put the MLB in that deep zone, or maybe even a second LB in the deep zone. My other solution is to get out of the 3-4/4-3 and go to Nickel or Dime to get some CBs on the TE.

    What do you guys do?

If thats their #1 target, manually with whoever the defender is responsibly for him or that zone. I find its easier to man up on the outside with CPU and Safety help and let the CPU handle that and cover the middle myself. A good player will bear whatever zone you run without enough protection.

Yeah, I guess the answer is I need to work on my user coverage. Definitely the weakness in my game - rather play DL.

I suggest worrying more about just covering the middle of the field and not a player so much. The TEs work the middle of the field a lot, so playing the middle well should help you achieve what you want.

I like to play as the RE/NT against the computer, and as he Jack Linebacker when I used to play online.

find a defensive playbook with the sub formation and put your best cover guy on the TE. Example if Im playing the 49ers I know chances are vernon davis will be a key target so I will go to the sub packages manually sub a good corner or safety and have him matched up on Davis typically they play much better coverage than LBs. bears have sub formation for a 4-3 team and chargers have it for a 3-4 team

Adjusting certain sliders will help the CPU pass it around more than aiming for the TE and HB.

I'll shade the outside of the TE because usually they run an out or post to the sidelines usually. The LB usually covers well on his own when I do that. IF he's lined up on the LoS. If he's in the slot, my LB may get beat for some reason.

I went from having the CPU TE get 8-12 catches a game to 4-6.

Just play a cb as saftery and user him to stop the CB or pickup a fast MLB and user them

if the TE is very fast then you need to take special care. Put one your DE next to TE. Also if necessary cover TE with line backer

Re: How do you stop the TE?

I have taken the TE out of the equation by doing a few simple adjustments. Also varies on what type of formation they are in. I like to play a slight variation of a Tampa 2. I play a 4-3, if they come in a I form with two wide and one TE, I get the outside backer into a purple zone. Taking out all the out routes. Get your middle linebacker to a deep zone to play basically a cover 3. I drop my strong side DE in a hook zone to take away the come back. Reblitz your weak side line backer to still pressure four but now it's like an overload on one side. Take both corners and put them in deep zones and get your FS on a yellow zone. You get a cover two look but really a cover 3. You take away the out route, the curl and the post. TE will have no open space

I like this idea and will give it try, thanks for the tip. I usually double up the TE with a safety but that takes away from where he should be. Maybe your approach will fix that.

Re: How do you stop the TE?

It really depends on the formation.

One of my favorite ways to defend a TE in a traditional formation (TE lined up on Oline) is to use a heavy nickel package ( Multiple D playbook) then using sub package put my best corner on the inside where he will not only have man coverage of TE but he will come out and line up right over top of him up close to avoid quick hits to the TE

If TE is split out wide i would suggest dollar defense. again use sub package to get the man you want to cover him in that spot. What i like to do from there is have a LB set to spy then at snap controlling said LB cover up TE till he is down field a bit then return to mid field spying the QB and covering crossing routes people love to use
