Re: OSFM 2013: Chicago White Sox

You don't have if they are high or low or not. For instance, I would go low A on Hawkins, mid-high B on Barnum (ball sounds different off his bat because of his power, helluva athlete could play corner OF, but raw) and C+ Thompson (he strikes out too much, think Brett Jackson), etc. This is a good start, though.

Petricka is the guy that I have trouble with...I think that he'd be best served in the pen. His FB has a ridiculous amount of movement. I haven't seen movement like that since Matt Clement's FB, but he has zero command of it though maybe some control. I guess C+ is best though I could see B- as a marginal regular.

Mitchell strikes out a ton but he also gets on base a ton. He's like a Dunn but with speed and defense in lieu of power. He's a B-. Walker has more speed & defense than Mitchell, but not the power and is younger so he gets a notch up to mid-low B.

At 2B, Sanchez is a mid-high B and Joey is a high C.

Johnson should be rated higher than Snodgrass. Johnson could be a #2 which would be an A- but a good #3 is more realistic so B+ based on the games rankings. Snods would be a mid B, then. Beck is a B- or highest C possible. He's got things to straighten out. Brandon Brennan should be in here as well and ranked equal to Beck as far as potential. Beck is further along but Brennan could surpass him.

There, those are ALL of my thoughts at the moment.

QUICK PRIMER ON GRADE MEANINGS:

Grade A prospects are the elite. They have a reasonable chance of becoming stars or superstars. Almost all Grade A prospects develop into major league regulars, if injuries or other problems don't intervene. Note that is a major "if" in some cases.

Grade B prospects have a good chance to enjoy successful careers. Some will develop into stars, some will not. Most end up spending several years in the majors, at the very least in a marginal role.

Grade C prospects are the most common type. These are guys who have something positive going for them, but who may have a question mark or three, or who are just too far away from the majors to get an accurate feel for. A few Grade C guys, especially at the lower levels, do develop into stars. Some end up as role players or bench guys. Many don't make it at all.
