Are you kidding me? This comment is extremely laughable. The entire team collapsed at the end of the season. McCutchen was ranked at-worst 7th in the NL in every significant offensive category. He hit 31 HR, 96 RBI and batted over .325 for the year. Not only that, but he won a golden glove AND he was the SILVER SLUGGER for the National League. Oh, I forgot, anyone can win a Silver Slugger, right? The man had 30+ HR, nearly 100 RBI, 20 SB and hit over .325; how is that anything but superb? How is he supposed to carry a team with those kinds of numbers; but as a team, they were bottom 10 in every significant offensive category? McCutchen literally carried the Pirates; how can you possibly blame him for missing the playoffs? Your comment may be the most mis-guided sports post I've seen in quite some time.

Not to mention Cabrera was an average defender at best, while Cutch is one of the BEST in CF

To be fair, Cabrera is above-average at 1B. He SUCKED at 3B.

In essence, all teams do PURCHASE a team. However, in 2012 the Detroit Tigers payroll was $132,000,000 compared to the Pirates payroll of $63,431,999. Both figures are quite outrageous as that money is used to pay players to PLAY the game of baseball. In my opinion as well, trading is also "purchasing" because you're giving away less expense to get something more desired, more expensive in MOST cases. As far as ignorance goes, that $132 mil payroll was used for a 4-0 shutout in the World Series

I think alot of you guys may have forgotten that Miggy played OF in his 1st 4 years too and he wasnt all that great of a fielder there either. Hes not new to 3B either. He played 3B for FLA too.

Being the best means you are a threat on both sides of the plate; Cabrera is a horrible fielder.

Miggy got plenty of love. 76,739 votes worth.

People just love CC and McCutchen more.

I'm as big of a Tigers fan as you will ever meet, but Cabrera has NEVER been an above average defender at any position he has ever played.

3 positions to place your worst fielders, #1, DH, #2, LF, #3, 1B!
Miggy has played all 3 and has struggled at 3B.

No nothing at all, i'm a Giants fan so of course I was cheering for Posey but McCutchen would have been my 2nd choice.

Well to be fair to Miggy, he wasn't that bad at third. He was no Longoria with the glove but he did get everything hit to him and made all the routine plays. He just had stone feet when it came to his range.

He only made 13 errors and half of them were throwing errors. His DRS (defensive runs saved) was -4, so he didn't really hurt the Tigers that much. He more than made up for those four runs he cost with the numbers he put up.

His UZR being at -10 backs up my statement of no range but he gets to everything hit at him.
