Re: 2012-13 Hot Stove League Thread

Scott Ferguson at TSN.CA wrote an article about whether baseball could work in Montreal again here. It also seems like MLB has soured on TB with this statement that just came out "Major League Baseball no longer considers Tampa Bay as a baseball locale".

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned New Orleans as a possible destination. I think that could work....Well if they actually had a MLB ready stadium. "shrugs".

So has ARod fallen so far that news that he might miss the entire 2013 season doesn't even register in the Hot Stove thread?

Hadn't even heard. Wow. That's huge.

Will Jeter be ready for Opening Day? If not, well....they could be digging themselves an early hole.

It's the beginning of the end for A-Rod as a major player in MLB IMO. It looks like the Yanks may have to really rely on their pitching this year as a lot of the cogs in that machine are older and the guys who aren't that old aren't exactly the greatest.

News like that makes me even more excited for Jays season. While there will be tough teams like Tigers,Angels,Rangers,A's out there, Red Sox will struggle,Yankees declining, O's might just be a fluke. So AL East could be dominated this year by Jays and Rays.

Yes get rid of the Marlins, that would free Florida back up to be Braves territory again.

Wonder if that could lead to anything? Or maybe they should do what NHL should have done in the first place, have 1 team MAX in Florida and that's it.

Rays were 6th last in attendance % and last in attendance overall last year(despite a 90 win season).

Would Carolina be good spot for a MLB team? Or what about Indiana? If MLB got a team there, then they could fit in the central division while another team like Detroit(if they move to al) or Pittsburgh(if they move to nl) moves to the east.
The Rays moving is a matter of when, but you can't honestly expect the Marlins to go anywhere now that their stadium is built.

Believe it or not, it's 500 miles further away than Baltimore is. Games in Seattle would be awful for the franchise.

I saw an awesome yet impossible idea from somewhere.. might've been Jonah Keri.

We move the Marlins somewhere, and put the Rays in the Marlins' new stadium. Probably impossible, but would be really awesome.

North Carolina is really big on college sports especially basketball. I think MLB just has a couple too many teams right now.

What's the story on Brian Wilson? I know he got injured and stuff, but why hasn't any team just signed him to like a minor league deal or something(so that he's not on the payroll, but he's still under contract with that team,so if/when he gets healthy again, they can be the first team to see how he is).

The last I read was that he worked out for the Mets, but that was a couple weeks ago. I think the article also mentioned he'd be reluctant to sign a minor league deal. It also said Wilson claims he'd be ready for opening day but his workouts don't indicate that he's that far along.
